Something very special happened to me in March 2014 when I came back to the Church (LDS),something that convinced me that God Loves me and saved me I will never forget the depth of my despair and I can never deny the depth of Love that I’ve felt from God and Jesus Christ it is here where Jesus picked me up as a broken Man and made me whole. He is not doing with the LDS Church. He is actively fighting LDS church by condescending and trying to convert LDS to 'real Christianity" but he has no respect for our logical, biblical, rational theology and practices. Protestantism rebelled against Catholicism hence with 1500 years of Christianity.

Jeff - Remember that Latter-Day Saints are not checking boxes. We are trying to change our natures through the atonement of Jesus Christ. To overcome the natural man through faith in Jesus Christ and obedience to the commandments. I go to the temple to make covenants with God to help me commit myself to following in His ways. Going to the temple itself means very little if I’m not changing my heart. Becoming more meek, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things. I’m learning in my own life that to overcome my natural tendencies takes effort, increased wisdom, faith, humility and patience.

The difference between historical Christianity is we are controlled by the Holy Spirit and he does the changing in our lives in all those personal areas. I am not working: but God is changing me to become more Holy: its called sanctification and as an Evangelical we don't believe we have a license to sin after we are saved by Grace through Faith!

@@davidjanbaz7728 "The difference between historical Christianity is we are controlled by the Holy Spirit and he does the changing." That is not the view of "historical Christianity" (as if there were such a thing) or evangelicals as a whole, but rather the view of the Augustinian and Calvinist traditions. It is not a part of the Holiness traditions, Methodist, Assemblies of God etc. as well as the less Augustinian Catholic traditions (the minority today) which posit free-will, though allow that God "redirects the minds and hearts of believers" through "crisis" which makes the free choice of following the will of God possible. This is different from being "controlled by the Holy Spirit." Your second paragraph does sound more broadly evangelical to me. That said, my experience with many young evangelicals (I teach comparative religion) would be that in practice, many do shrug off sin with a "Well, once saved always saved" kind of flippancy.

@@ardeneberly4450Controled as we yield to the Holy Spirit : He doesn't override our free will but motivates us to live Sanctified lives in the Lord. I have been a Christian 4 63 years: and not once has any ( I have attended many different denominational churches) Pastor ever said we are Saved and you can sin all you want! For a comparative religious teacher your biases R obvious : what is your Religious affiliation and how long ? You answered my question in your other post: not surprising at all. God's Goodness is balanced by His Holiness: so Ominbenevolance isn't necessarily an accurate term to use about God's Goodness. It's actually trying to strawman man God's Holiness and righteous judgment of sin : atheists and Mormons seem to agree here which is why Ex Mormons turn atheists so easily after leaving your religion. Where did you become a comparative religions teacher: any schooling outside of Mormonism?

This is a good conversation, and I have appreciated your preview clips. I have had friendly contact with LDS people since I was a child, and have always been hospitable and attentive to missionaries. While I have my own faith in Christ, I like to point out areas of agreement and be more sensitive and diplomatic concerning areas of strong disagreement. On some points I agree with LDS more than certain Protestant polemicists, especially in the area of faith versus works, and in the matter of levels of glory in the next life. If ever I get anxious about my LDS friends' eternal salvation, I just listen to the final testimony of Bruce R McConkie and think, I hope that as they approach death they, like him, will have such a love and gratitude for the Savior who gave himself for us. I am always moved when I listen to that testimony.

As an LDS member I have a hard time with the enigmatic way in which Pastor Jeff views God. Understanding God's true character and nature is an extremely important doctrine because without it a person cannot have true salvation-bringing Faith. I came from a very dysfunctional sick family but now besides my Savior, my Dad is my best friend!!! So many of my family have accepted their work. I didn't have a loving family while they were on earth but now the promise that Heavenly Father made to me when I first joined the church is coming true. He promised to me after I had been in the church a few yrs, "I promise that in the eternities I will heal your family!!!". My stepmom has not graduated to the other side. People like yourself, Jacob, I think are truly a blessing in our conversation with fellows like Paster McCullough here, as well as to our conversations with the theologians of the other Christian denominations: you bring such a deep philosophical understanding to the table. I think philosophy is so crucial to the way the professors of religion are taught and have developed their understanding of the scriptures, and your understanding of it is so vital to that conversation. Many of us don't have that level of education in the scriptures and the gospel: I personally struggled in a conversation with a catholic fellow who had such a deep understanding of the scriptures in that area, that I felt like I was fumbling my entire understanding of the scriptures and the revelations and teachings of the church. God has clearly given us free will to choose to obey him or not, to follow him or not. This doesn't mean it was His intention from the beginning for man to sin and be separated from Him. He could have made us like robots without free will, but his desire was for an intimate loving relationship with us. Love demands a choice. There is a difference between foreseeing something will happen, and intending for something to happen. He could have stepped in and prevented a situation that Christ would be necessary but then we would not have had the free will to choose to be intimately related to God. We would just be robots.

He saw the Father on the throne a ways away but that Jesus came up to him and hugged him with a body, arms, hands, legs, feet... and that the love that radiated kept changing and growing from perfection to perfection right in his presence. Keep your faith close to your heart & you will have the opportunities, regardless if in this life or after, seek Christ, to repent, and escape from sin. I wish you the best :D

You must choose Christ. "If you are not willing to leave father, mother, son, daughter to follow me, you are not worthy to be my disciple." I used to be Protestant until I decided to pursue more Christ.

Polytheism is correct. When God says that there is only one God, he was referring to those worshipping idols. God is our God and our only God. Same as your Earthly father is your only Father, but there are other fathers. Well Earth has one God, but there are other Gods in Eternity.

I agree with you, Jeff, that Jesus was 100% man and 100% God. Without being God he could not have suffered the intense pain of Gethsemane and on the cross but being man allowed him to get a body and he was able to satisfy the demands of Justice for our sins. Christ's attonement satisfied the demands of Justice in proxy for all those who repent. Such love! Understanding the Godhead is much like understanding a Bishopric with each ward. Three individual person with a common goal of working for each individual in the the Ward. You see this type of organization throughout the church - Stake Presidency, First Presidency of the Church.

Jesus only gave 2 commandments: follow them!
@alexmunro2640
@alexmunro2640 Год назад
@@davidjanbaz7728 Jesus was asked which where greater in the law and he replied with first love God and second Love your neighbor. That was a answer to the question of which is greater not saying the are the only commandments we must follow. Saying that those are the only commandments Jesus Christ gave is saying that the instructions in the sermon on the mount or other things where he said to be born of water and of spirit matter not because he say that the two great commandments are to love God and Neighbor. How do you love God and your neighbor? As Jesus said if you love me keep my commandments so you need to keep all his commitments and repent when you fall short. How do you else by feeding his sheep that does not mean to support bad behavior but to nourish them with the word of God and give for there support of their needs. That is how I see his response. It is only in and through the grace of Jesus Christ that all men may be saved, as he said keepmy commandments.

Ultimately these theological disagreements come down to one thing: the source of our understanding of the Gospel. Protestants and all other Christian sects rely on their human interpretation of the word of God ancient prophets (aka the Bible), which varies quite widely. The records of which have been transcribed and translated hundreds of times. Latter-day Saints rely on modern day revelation from God to living prophets along with His clarification His ancient word to ancient prophets. Essentially we go straight to the source rather than relying on ancient texts to ancient people. That to me is much more reliable.

Great inter-faith gospel conversation by the way! The topic between the Trinity and the Godhead: Trinity: 1 + 1 + 1 = 1 God with 3 presences/personalities, without body parts or passions, who are everywhere yet no where, a vapor of smoke. Godhead: 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 Gods who are unified as One Godhead (Council/Presidency) all of whom have the same divine purpose, work, and glory. Moses 1:39 “For behold this is my work and my glory-to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.” In John 17, when the Son is giving his great intercessory prayer to the Father-he prays that the apostles would have the same “oneness” (unity) that the Son and Father share with each other. Then the Son prays that those who believe in the words of the apostles (that would be us) would also have the same “oneness” (unity) with the apostles, the Son, and the Father. We are commanded to be ONE. “For those who are not ONE are not mine.” Our hearts, mights, and minds should be knit together as ONE, in the same fashion, just like the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are knit together as ONE. Jesus’ work and glory was to help show us the way and bring us back into AT-ONE-MENT with the Father. Jesus condescended taking on the human condition, he was “a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief,” and he experienced what we go through-so that he would be able to succor us in our affliction. There is total passion there with the Father in giving up His Son (as Abraham could attest) and the Son who was willing to give himself (as Isaac could attest). There was passion in the life and in the giving of Jesus’ life. Also as a resurrected being (when he took up his body again)…..there is definitely body parts in mortality and this continued into immortality as well. We know this through the reality of the Resurrection. He lives and so will we! This is the free gift to all! 1st Great Commandment: To love the Lord with all our heart, might, mind, and strength. The Lord said, 'I say unto you, be one; and if ye are not one, ye are not mine' (Doctrine and Covenants 38:27). 2nd Great Commandment: To love our neighbor as ourself (be one). The doctrine of the godhead is that it is a presidency (of individuals) all of whom hold the highest priesthood office (quorum of divinity). Other terms include “The Council of the Gods” or “The Council of Elohim.” Notice that Elohim is both a singular and a plural (for gods) depending on the specific context spoken of. Elohim can specify God the Father (singular) or collectively refer to the the Godhead (Council/plural individuals) all of whom are unified together with the same purpose, work, and glory (same heart). The Son is the representative of the Father. Jesus is the Word of the Father. In other words….the Son comes in the stead of the Father to give us the Father’s words. In the same way that the Vice President is authorized to speak in the name of the President, he comes at the behest of the President, and he relays what the President’s words are to a congregation. We know that to hear the words of the Son is to hear the words of the Father-for the Son says and does only what the Father does-because they are in total agreement with each other. There is only ONE GODHEAD. We do not have any other “godheads.” The Greek and Roman pantheon of gods (polytheism) are not divine and they are not unified together with one divine purpose, work, or glory. Those pagan gods are false-behind their mask constitutes evil spirits who make up the “principalities and powers of an unseen world” masquerading as gods. And they are absolutely NOT unified with the same purpose, work, and glory which is “to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.” But rather those entities fight against the betterment of humanity they only seek our final destruction.

I've reviewed this a few times Jacob and just want you and Jeff both to know that I hyper appreciate you both carrying on such far reaching concepts like you have here in such an emotionally regulated way. Hats off to both of you guys! - Please see my comments on some of the things you mention that may be repeat from other comments - forgive / mercy - just felt like some things are important to understand. I'm a lifelong member of said ''church" - - - I've considered that church doesn't exist in the Celestial Kingdom because there will no longer be a need to repent, and we can all sleep in literally on the 7th day/s of creation. . . (sort of jesting here). . . I did want to briefly point out that "becoming" in a 'personal development' sense, is something I've viewed with God being an absolute (there are several Neal A. Maxwell references I could give on this). - - - God doesn't learn new things. I'm going to point out some things here too: I. The word "moose"" - if we want to funnel this to a splitting yes or no? Is moose plural? Is moose singular? Is deer plural? Is deer singular? Both yes and no answers are correct contingent on context. We could also look at it like this: 1+4=5 2+3=5 3+2=5 2+3=5 4+1=5 That is essentially a chiasmus way to say that there is only 1 number 5 but there are simultaneously 5 number 5's contingent on our context and paradigm and interpretation. As an individual steeped in experiential models in the field of work I've landed into with horses in the past - I'm just going to point out that the more advanced horsemen are working on the basics amid their relationship/s with their horses. That's a fairly broadly known principle amid the horse world. I did want to clearly submit, however, and I think you conveyed this initially - God is ALL KNOWING and has ARRIVED - period - there is no further 'development'' in the sense that God still learns new things in eternal classrooms. . . God's increase is otherwise amid us as God's all knowing faith is. So so appreciated this interview and you two did a fantastic job at conveying some problematic principles. ("Problematic'') is Jeff's word from another of his videos I've viewed at length. Best to you!

Paster Jeff when it comes to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints you will always come up short. There is much that you will never know because it will never fit into your beliefs. It is hard to drscribe a picture when most of the picture is missing as in the protestant reliegions. I wish you the best on your journey of discovery. My question is why do you make it so hard to understand when even a child can understand it?

I think one thing missed by Jeff in the protestant view of the unchangeability of God is the idea that God is perfect in an absolute and ultimate sense, therefore cant get anymore perfect and any change in nature must be away from the absolute perfection He already has resulting in a less than perfect God. Great conversation!

During these discussions, which have been so interesting and enlightening, I always come back to the Plan of Salvation. The trinity is so hard for us to believe because we believe we are spirit children of God (Heavenly Father) and we believe Jehovah (Jesus Christ) is also God's son, as was Lucifer (Satan). For those without our understanding of pre-mortal life, the council and war in heaven through latter-day revelation and the Book of Moses and Abraham, our belief of the Godhead wouldn't make sense.

To believe that Lucifer and Jesus are brothers and both “sons of God” as if they are equal somehow is the most blasphemous thing I’ve ever heard.

What a great and honest episode. May I say something about the holy trinity my feeling is you guys are both correct. The holy trinity is both three separate entities and also one. Let me explain, if you have three computers that are all connected, each computer is gathering information on its own but each computer also knows or has access to all the information that is input. Now some people might say there are three computers, and some people might say no it’s just one computer. It’s my feeling that this is how we get off track when studying theology. The long and the short of it is, it just doesn’t matter that much how you think of it. Thanks again guys keep up the good work!
