Protesters booed and chanted ‘not my king’ as King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived at St Giles Cathedral in Scotland.
King Charles III was presented on Wednesday 5 June with the Scottish crown jewels, including a crown and sceptre, to mark his coronation.
The ceremony took place at St Giles’ Cathedral, and included a procession involving over 800 people beforehand, down the Royal Mile in Edinburgh.
As the royal cars were passing among the crowd, protesters started booing loudly and kept chanting ‘not my king’ as Charles and Camilla dismounted the car and entered the Cathedral.

We pay ambassadors and diplomats to do a similar job for the country. They do a job for us so I don’t see why they shouldn’t get paid? Besides, a lot of what they receive from the Sovereign Grant is handed back in taxes. The late Queen passed a lot back to the treasury plus taxes. They are funded mostly from their own private enterprise. If we were to be a republic, we’d have to support a prime minister AND a very expensive president. The Monarch is non political, and represents all without favour. Can you say that of any other system of government? There seems to me to be no reason to get rid! Even without our support they would still be very rich and powerful! Surely it’s to our advantage to harness that and use it for the country’s benefit? Even Sturgeon wanted the Queen and her successors to continue as head of state in the event of Scottish Independence.

It's called a kleptocracy... a system of theft, run for the purpose of theft, paid for out of a small portion of what is stolen. The sceptical is thus dressed to attract attention away from the system that impoverishes them, to a symbol of something they are geographically associated with (eg, "British") to confuse them into thinking that they are on the side of the "winners" due to this shared geographical association. How was this ever going to produce any sensible results?

We have this event, spectacular as it is: but the crown and jewels will probably never be worn. Meanwhile, the country goes to s**t run by overpaid incompetents who give very little value for the vast salaries they receive. There is plenty of the nations financial cake to support events like this, pay the royals, and politicians vast sums of money, and a spare approaching £10 million a day available: to house anyone who turns up in the channel in fancy hotels. But if your a key worker or living in rags on the streets, then l,m afraid money is NOT available.
