Pro-Palestinian demonstrators are maintaining their encampment at Wayne State University on Monday, despite the university saying it must be disbanded.
The encampment has been visible, transparent, & peaceful. If it hasn’t been, the media/university certainly hasn’t shared that. Happy Rep. Tlaib joined them. Hopefully, WSU staff will also help protect these students/alumni. #WarriorStrong
@@ServantoftheInfiniteTruthI am closer to unitarian, my grandfather is Egyptian, why tf are they dying over a big rock? With respect, the prophet Muhammad made it clear that he didn't want anything to do with iconoclast images celebrating his face, I'm sorry of sure that the prophet Muhammad, didn't want to distract from God; why tf are they dying over a big rock?
I was a student co leader of the Wayne State Hillel under the Rabbi many years ago( I am almost 70 years old) And I am concerned about the Jewish students! I believe that the safety of the Jewish Students should be the focus of the Administration right now Threats like this have no place on campus! I was beaten up every day for being Jewish at Birney Middle School on 11 mile and Evergreen which served students from both Southfield and Lathrup village and I remember the fear I experienced and the harm it produces!
I am not Jewish, but when this all began last year I wrote to them and they invited me to come visit their space in the student center. Their experience has been harrowing. I even had a meeting with Dean Strauss to discuss all the pictures I’d taken of antisemitic propaganda on campus. He told me “you have to remember that these are kids. They are just kids who dont know any better.” Since then it’s only gotten worse. I’m looking into changing schools. I got an email from the school yesterday stating that my tuition money is being used to provide the protesters with a dumpster and porta-potties for their “health and safety”. So for THEIR health and safety, they get resources brought in to support them, but for MY health and safety, I am now completely barred from entering the campus that I PAY thousands of dollars to have access to. I would urge you to speak up on behalf of the Jewish students here if you are able. I’m a Christian, but was welcomed with open arms by the Jewish club during our conversation last year. They don’t deserve any of this.
These protesters, most of who are not students, took over campus to literally shut it down until wayne state diverts away from its funding with israel related supportive organizations... am i against diverting away from funding that may help israel over seas? NO what i am against is me being an actual student, paying out of pocket this semester at $13,000 .... just for some weirdos to come around in detroit Michigan and completely ruin my quality of education with this craziness by switching me to remote classes, which is cheaper and less quality than what im paying for as an independent student caring for myself. At this point im angry at both sides , i want wayne state to reveal these funds they're involved with that "support" the damage of israel over seas(and at this point im so upset, it had better be real funds supporting over seas for these people to feel vindicated in wasting 13k of my money on this. and i also want these people removed. You remove the students but not these people?? They have no care for the actual students. They didn't set up camp downtown at a corporation? Why? Because they know they would of been wrecked the first 2 hours and dismantled. They chose to take advantage of the university as a corporation but have no interest in the well being of the students the university directly affects. I honestly have no respect for these people.
Spoke with Dean Strauss last year to ask him WHICH companies they are being asked to divest from, as I’m a student here as well. He told me that basically ANY company in the US that makes hardware/software falls under their demand. Companies like Intel. Because all rockets in the IDF are guided by microprocessors and Intel makes the microprocessors. Any company that makes molded metal that might wind up in a rocket or tank… apparently they’ve got to go too. Or what about water bottles that wind up in the IDF soldier’s backpack? Divest from the company that makes the caps for those water bottles. Divest from the water purification system companies that filter that water. Protest the zipper company that makes the zippers on those backpacks. I’m not kidding. This is literally their logic. It is not possible do this, while still retaining all the internships that STEM students at WSU have access to. Thought you might gain practical experience as a mechanical engineering student at BOEING? Nope! Not if we divest from them! That’s the incredibly selfish aspect of these protests. These people have zero concern for the massive effects that a divestment would have on current and future students.
There's a genocide occurring and you are saying the protestors are the one's being selfish? Do you realize that when you die, it game over, no going back? Easy for you to say these things when you don't live in Gaza.
What's your point on this hypothetical? We live in the USA. I'm sorry your position is not aligned with the anti-genocide position of the protestors. You must support genocide then I take it.
