Protoform Misconceptions

12:13 the fallens damaged face could be the primes protoform body design. I am theorizing that the primes had attached some kind of armour to themselves as a means to show rank or just clothing thus each having unique designs.

Protoforms were such an interesting idea for Transformers, the 2007 movie really wanted to make Cybertronians much more “alien” in design and I really love it.

I really like the Bayformers twist on Cybertronians, since they seem more "techno-organic" than the aligned continuity and the IDW continuity. It'll also make sense as to why parental figures are mentioned in the films, even If they don't reproduce. When a new sparkling Is hatched, they could have been adopted by an older transformer who raises them and takes care of them. Of course they wouldn't be "fathers," but because they're speaking English they're just using the best next thing.

I always loved the protoforms. Such a pity there was never any high quality figures of them.

In astrochemistry, and astrobiology. A Transformer would be considered “silicon-based life” as they have cables, microchips, metals, etc. same for current technologies in electronics

That very last segment made me realize & cement a belief I’ve had about (TF4) Lockdown. He really is the odd man out. The only part of his body that seems to have Cybertronian markings on him is his ammo cartridges and grenades; parts of him that aren’t necessarily a part of him. The markings on his face around his scar is more akin to Sanskrit (And boy was it tricky to emulate in the cosplay I built where I first noticed this detail about him 😬) this really makes it seem like he has separated himself from his Cybertronian heritage in another way than just him being “factionless.”

That little fact at the end about Cybertronian markings was super interesting and definitely something I’m going to keep my eye out for from now on

I always knew the 2007 'Bots being protoforms was just so the film-makers didn't need to make/modify models to represent their Cybertronian robot forms (most TF shows either just slightly modify or straight-up use the Earth modes, irritatingly but understandably). But your explanation that they need to shed their parts down to a protoform to enter meteor mode is pretty cool and really ties that up.

I really love how transformers look like in their cybertronian mode, it makes them look more alien, I also like how Michael Bay even gave them their own language.

This is by far my favourite video to date! One thing I loved about the Bayverse is that Transformers were more like techno-organic aliens than just machines. They were able to reproduce sexually and artificially which was something I loved and it would make sense considering they’ve been fighting for thousands of years, tens of millions of Cybertronians would have fled Cybertron before and during the war and have remained in hiding till the war is over, some eventually chose sides. But they were on a dying planet and had to create soldiers, so maybe cloning was a possibility as well. Absolutely loved this one!

I always figured that Quintessa was using psychological torture against Optimus Prime and Lockdown was preparing Optimus Prime for Quintessa

The whole cyberglyphics thing on all Transformers is possibly the #1 most consistent thing Michael Bay has ever done in his life.

My theory of cybertronian life cycle: The hatchlings are built along with their energon wombs that bring them to life. After this, they hatch and need to consume energon to survive and transformium that will build into their body, making them grow larger until they reach their protoform stage. After this, they can scan an alternate form. In my opinion, the body type of the cybertronian depends on that of the hatchling. The humanoid one for example, evolves from the hatchlings we saw on screen with their legs split from being a single tail. In some cases, this does not occur, resulting in ones like Rampage and Skipjack. So I think they are both built and born, because the base of the hatchling is built, but later it will hatch, making it born. By the way, when a cybertronian talks about its parents, it talks about the ones who built it. Thank you for reading!

14:20 about markings. Star scream also has markings on his face but when he transforms his jet form has a tattoo on its back. Think they mentioned it in a scene when they were trying to figure out which squadron the F-22 (starscream) belonged too and the solider said "How many F-22s have tattoos on it"

I have a feeling that the cybertronian markings on the Autobots and Decepticons serve as dogtags. In the military, dogtags are used to identify a soldier and see their status so that no confusion can be created. This is why some of the Autobots have different markings

That is the one thing I really enjoyed about the bayverse designs (although I love Bumblebee's more) ,is the fact that they were portrayed as an actual "alien" race, rather than a human in the guise of a robot.

I really wish studio series would make a protoform figure

Maybe transformers do hatch from eggs but Lockdown could also be right, maybe he knows that before everything 1st transformers were built as someone's creations. Maybe he even met with them and got some sick upgrades which is why he was so effective and efficient as a hunter.

I feel like cybertronians don’t have actual parents that breed to make them but they are more like mentors or guardians who take care of a cybertronian

I don’t think jet fire had parents he was basically just doing old people dementia talk and saying random words and hound didn’t have parents and was just trying to make Cade feel better

Fun fact about Optimus Prime getting a peterbilt: That truck that prime scanned was already prime and the one that scanned the truck was nemesis prime

I have a theory on why lockdown said "you were built" remember in generation 1 Orion pax was blasted then rebuilt into Optimus prime. I know the bay vurse doesn't follow generation 1 but it's a cool thing to note

Wait…….. so you’re telling me that this channel is fully based off of the Michael Bay Transformers movies?!? The internet never ceases to amaze me… just when I think I’ve seen it all, and then BAM. Internet is like “did you know that there’s someone out there that has completely dedicated his content creation around the Michael Bay Transformers movies?” and I’m like WTF?!?!? Now THAT is some freakin dedication. I have to commend you for that. It’s like waking up every morning and the floor throughout your whole entire house is covered in Legos and you don’t even own one pair of socks or shoes, but yet you wake up every day and you walk and walk and walk all over those legos just to create your content, so I gotta respect it.

Questions: “What happen if “Sector 7” didn’t get Terminated? What would they do in the later films?

Also don’t forget the part where Transformers don’t have to specifically scan the vehicle they want to be, only it’s structure. The paint job of their alt mode is completely their choice. Like in AOE where Optimus scans a regular white truck in his evasion mode and becomes the fancy truck we know from AOE and TLK today

8:13 I love how I came to watch a video about protoforms, but then I realize I never saw Jazz lift his mask

You know there were some Decepticons that transformed into vehicles in the invasion in Chicago. One turned into a police car, another a garbage truck, then a pickup truck, and one we never really saw transform was a fire truck. So who were those protoforms? I'd like to theorise that the fire truck is Smolder, the pickup truck would be Breakdown, the garbage truck would be Onslaught and the police car would probably be a different version of Motorhead.

12:42 FUN FACT; this decepticon protoform design actually resembles the ROTF soundwave's cybertronian form concept art, which has the same design, but with soundwave's head and I think more satelite kibble. You can compare the ROTF cybertronian soundwave and the DOTM decepticon protoform concept art to see. So yeah, in a way, soundwave's ROTF robot mode is unofficially revealed.

I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY, although Optimus was built, he was actually born, him being Orión.Packs before him being a prime, he became a prime by attempting to save cybertron and cure its sickness by going to the core, he earned the role prime so technically on the prime part of optimus was built,

I feel that the cybertronian markings are ways to identify transfomers when outside DS forms. Such as the various protoforms we see through out the movies, a way that they can distinguish each other when they all look alike, an automatic precognitive function like a sub-conscience. So when they see one another, their "sub-conscience" scans these markings automatically, allowing them to know who is who. Of course, the main transformers having their unique looks, so of course they'd recognize one another.

I actually like their protoforms in the Bay films more than what they change into after coming to Earth. It reminds me of how in the classic Transformers history pretty much half of everybody has the exact same body type with only a few differences to make them stand out, but just barely sometimes

8:16 In Tales of the Fallen #6, it’s shown that Chromia and Elita-1 were created when the Decepticon Flatline split Arcee’s spark into three pieces as part of an experiment. Adding onto that, the twins were also part of that experiment.

Optimus was born, because one of his '07 toys shows his Cybertronian form with a Cybertronian vehicle form. (Same applies to starscream)

I know you’ve heard that you should be the director of these movies, but I think you should be the script writer. That way you can make the script and what happens better then they would have.

This protoform explanation was so good I could feel it coming inside of me

Its mentioned in TF 2007 that Starscream has quite visible cybertronion markings on large portions of his Jet mode but im not sure where they would be in robot mode. My guess is that most of them would be hidden inside his body. This would also explain the random placements of these markings on other cybertronions as the markings are probably meant to orient properly in vehicle mode and the areas on their robot modes where the markings are visible probably form part of their body in vehicle mode

Something I would note about Born Vs Built: The logic of some being "built" and then being given life by the all spark makes sense. The " Hatchlings" imply that this might be the " natural" form of reproduction. However in regards to Optimus: In ROTF the "spirits" of the original primes say he is " their last descendant" In TLK Quintessa is called a " deceiver" by the Knights intent on executing Optimus and Optimus clearly does not remember being " built". Personally I would go with Quintessa feeding both Optimus and lockdown a line of bull even though largely it was a lack of putting forethought by the writers into maintaining any continuity.

It’s been a while since I watched one of your videos, and I have to say the you massively improved the quality of your videos. I really like this theory for how the protoforms work and how they can exist along side the built transformers. Idk why but for years I had thought they couldn’t have both.

There's a good chance you probably already know this by now, but referring to the part at 8:14, the forms the Arcee Sisters & the Twins had in rotf are indeed built. Decepticon Experiments to be exact. It's explained in the movie comic Tales of the Fallen: Arcee, but basically Arcee was abducted & her spark was transferred to new protoforms that become her tripartite form in RotF. the twins were meant to be reprogrammed (& maybe modified) into loyal decepticons, but Flatline screwed up, which is why the twins are....the twins... (Scorponok though I believe was just part of cybertrons fauna like the Driller if I remember correctly, not sure.)

This is pretty interesting. I like the detail of all of them having cybertron markings on them, that’s a nice detail I’ve never noticed until now.

this pretty much clears up the confusion about bayverse. ppl just need to watch your videos. and this would indicate bay wasn't just reusing old models but actually using lore. this man really put his heart into this franchise.
