shop Dirt Perfect www.dirtperfec... Installing a new old crossmember in Lt Dan and pulling out of the shop for the first test drive. #dirtperfect #Ltdan #customtruckbuild #metalfabrication #MBTS
Your not telling me they are all built in China because I know otherwise. Malaysia and other far Eastern countries not just China. A friend uses impact wrenches a lot in his job and he sweres by millwalkie tools. He says it's when you use them every day.
It's great to see this beast rumble to life as it pulled out of the garage! I'm excited for the next video, when we get to see it rollign down the road for the test drive!
Nicely done! I would have thought you would have just picked the rear end up and trolleyed it out the door. But Lt is out the door! Bring on the bed! And looking forward to the axle weight testing with Hoover!!!!
That bend in the rear cross member was not from a chain or tow strap. That truck had a fifth wheel plate. That was from the king pin on a trailer hitting and the rear end popping up and/or the trailer not being raised enough while loaded. Love the build of the truck
I'm impressed that it fit out the shop door!!!!!!! I knew you could do it but was still on pins and needles!!!!!!!! You talking about the air axle, my grand dad started dump trucking in the 40's and some of them old timers figured out that they could haul more with that extra axle, the laws very kinda non descript about the construction of said axle, so they swiped bicycle tires and tied em to the frame with a broomstick......... I dont know if its true or not, but it sounds plausible....... stay safe friends, keith
It's about time that thing saw some daylight. You have really thought this out as to what needs to go where and in what order. From experience I would suggest that you put exhaust tubes on that lift axle control valve. They stir up a lot of dust and cab dirt when used. I put one of them on one of the trucks that I drove part time and the owner then wanted them on all trucks. Looking for the next video. Be well and safe.
Came into this series a bit late (only about 9 months) - but I can tell you what happened to the rear cross member - the king pin of a trailer hit it... Someone didn't drop the landing legs before pulling out from under it... Same thing happens over my side of the lake (Oz)... 'Driver' goes looking for a new job (preferably not in control of a semi). Loving the build series, fascinating... Finally got to understand why tippers over there have so many wheels...
Loving the build so far. It’s a must watch when I see the new video is out. Think it’s great how you seem to know when to give enough detail but not bore me with over explaining or going into too great a detail that’s not applicable to other people’s trucks. Keep up the great work!!!
As a way to add more "EYE-CANDY" I think you should mount / fabricate some flapper's for the exhaust pipe's. I just think it would add to the "LOOK-FACTOR." Maybe even add to the Flapper's your Initials "D. P." Great build. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing the box get put on this project Lt. Dan, at the ready..
I am impressed you have spring cans on both axles! Man behind the scenes (secerns) don't feel bad I once started my pants on fire with a cut off wheel! God Bless. Looking forward to next one
Nice work guys. Lift axle controller outside of the cab is probably to deter drivers picking the wheels up at a toll plaza (common on east coast where there are charged per axle on the road) to reduce tge fee and then drop them back down further on.
I replaced one side of double frame on a single axle IH . I seperated the two pieces of the old frame and marked out all the holes onthe two new pieces, drilled the 107 holes with a mag drill "sweet tool". One mean looking machine
great job converting the truck capacity , i just worry about soft conditions packing mud around the lift axle bag bottoms , especially in reverse ... probably just me . i like the bigger taller tire option . more suited to off road use . your closing in on it now .
Funny, now there don't seem to be any "internet expert" comments about getting the truck out of the shop. Wonder why? (Expert = an ex is a has-been, and a spurt is a drip, under pressure.)
"I LIKE IT" These videos can't come fast enough. Thanks for bringing us along. Great content. I am waiting to see if MBTS can easily climb into the truck. Should be a Feature Short.
Good job. I have one concern we had a mechanic get killed a couple of years ago because a lift bag blowout while he was working on it. You should really put a preset pressure regulator in the line going to the lift bags so you don't run tank pressure in them most everyone in michigan is running them in our big multiple axle units. Just something for you to think about
Love the build. I was wondering about the controller in the cab but you addressed it. In my state they changed 6-8 years ago. Has to be mounted outside the cab, reason being the drivers were screwing with pressures while being officially weighed.
👍👍 from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 it really starts to become a very brutal truck. I am curious about the dumpbed. I am already looking forward to your next video . thanks for the video Mike and Aaron
Hey dirt perfect hear me out about this I think you should make this truck in honor of all active serving soldiers and veterans by painting the cab camo and put Lt. Dan on the sides of the hood
Maybe, as an alternative to that, dedicate it to peaceful cooperation and kindness with all our neighbour countries to make the world a better place for everyone.
So, 3M/Scotch part number 2228 makes a moisture sealing electrical tape, it's very thick and tough. Perhaps as a wrap under the hose loom covering. Take a look.
Lieutenant Dan is a beautiful monster and you're Killin me smalls I want to see you go for rip in it lol guess I'll just have to wait till video as always enjoy your channel
Well, I would have lost money on that. I never thought it would have come out of the shop without using the crane or a jack to maneuver the rear end around. She's looking good boys. Y'all stay safe.
I wasn't surprised at all. The day he moved it in I knew getting it out would not be an issue for two reasons. One, just watching how he got it in there it appeared there should not be an issue getting the extended version out. Second. Dirt Perfect doesn't do things off the cuff. He does thinks them out. I am betting he had it figured out before he ever backed it in there. At the very least, he knew after backing it in and would never have taken the chance extending it in the shop if there was the slightest doubt about getting it out, even if it meant using the crane.
Looking good... all I can think every time I see it now is to hear in my head.. "Leutenant DAN!!" with Forest Gump's voice lol A lot of great scenes in that movie with him and Forest... sitting on top of the mast in the HUrricane yelling at God to blast him off of the mast lmao Choice. You use that name because it was an army truck I'm guessing? Should make a kick'n Dump truck for sure. Hey any chance you'll get that older Mack from that guy who has it in his back 40 with grass all growing through it? Such a classy old truck... they actually looked like Bulldog's I always thought. B-body's were fantastic looking trucks as well. Anyway.... NICE!!
Did you plumb your lift axle supply with a "DOT" valve? It is a one way check valve that only allows the lift axle to drain it's supply tank down to approx 90 psi. Also doesn't supply air to the lift axle ( or other added accessories like air shift PTO, air tailgate, etc) till system reaches 100 psi. That way if there is a failure in an accessory system, it will not deplete air brakes.
I know where I'm sending my 2 trucks that need work....Dirt Perfect Autobody & Manufacturing. You better be careful. People find out you can do all that and you'll never get a day off. Great video!!
That damage on the back is not from hooking a tow hook to it. Some idiot didn't make sure the fifth wheel was latched and the trailer came un hooked. Dads truck had the exact same damage.
Good job, thanks Mike and Aaron for sharing the knowledge, work experience and for creating some healthy debates and discussions around this project. The world would be a much better place if everyone can all come together as we do on your channel to share ideas have a good laugh and talk about things without getting too excited. "☘ Happy St. Patrick's Day my brothers from other mothers!!!🍀 " And may good luck and fortune be with you always"..... (Pssst* Whispers) " Keep an eye on MBTS, I think he's got a pot of gold hidden somewhere.🤣
Let’s face facts here Mike Mrs DP came up with the smart idea after making another culinary masterpiece. She waited for you to fall asleep and into a dream state before subliminally putting the idea for using the rear cross bracing in whilst simultaneously whispering “Buy me a Motorhome Mike you know it makes sense “ 😉👍🏼
I personally think push lock connecters should be outlawed on any an all braking systems I've had them fail too. Any where else is fine. Looking good guys
Part of me was thinking how were you going to get it out of the garage, had visions of you hitching the crane to the rear axle and spinning the whole thing around.
The picture in picture was an awesome idea. You're really getting good at editing. I keep saying to myself, how is he going to get that truck out of the shop lol. I guess it worked out. Great video DP.
Hey Dirt Perfect from the looks of the two of you working. I would say your approximately 5’10. And you easily a foot taller than man behind the scenes. So that makes him 4’10 and a great 1on1 challenge for your kids in basketball practice.
What is the color of the truck going to be? . The truck looks like the metal work rolled out of the manufacturing plant ,you guys really did some beautiful workmanship. Dirt Perfect and M B T S custom truck builds no problem too big or small no pun intended MBTS
Gas axe for the win .here in Washington state you can have the air controller for the truck in the but not the trailer lift . That being said funny I've worked on state owned tractors that have the trailer controls in the cab , imagine that rules for thee not for me .
I really hope you end up keeping the military tires, provided they don't act stupid loaded. That would just look bad a--. That thing is looking sweet👍👍👍
@@robertbarnum7541 I am no expert, Mike is the one that has to decide what will be the best fit for him. Its tough because he is trying to make a hybrid truck, an off road hauler/on road hauler. Two totally different animals. Obvious problem with those heavy treads will be mud being tracked off the job site, worse fuel mileage, they will wear cupped on the pavement, and probably make for a noisy ride at speeds. Road tires, well you see the limitations of where all those tri-axles can go. For me I would shop an ideal off/on road tire and hope for the best
What happen to Bone head behind the camera when it was time to clean up and get the truck out y’all have done a wonderful job so far can’t wait to see it finish
i just drilled about 80 holes on the autocar. i touched up the annular cutter with a grinder and it cut good as new again. i even broke on off when i got too aggressive with a dull cutter, ground it flat and then reground it with an angle grinder so i was able to finish out what holes i needed to do. was just going to comment on the air bag regulator and then you addressed it near the end. im running mine at 55lbs
Those push locks are a love hate relationship. Thats all there is to it. Love them for the convenience but despise them when you have to constantly chase down leaks and blow outs. I deal with several thousand of them where I work and chasing down leaks is just about an every day job. Even using really good quality fittings from Parker they still sometimes blow out the tubing. Speaking of tubing I hope you got the high quality stuff because the cheaper tubing out there will get brittle over time, especially any where near heat or the sun.
Just me, but I would have added a couple gussets on the stub over the hanger bearing at a slope (let the mud run off) for any wiggly jigglies of the drive shaft. Then again I'm just sitting here in my robe hopping for the end of covid.
Diagonals off of the single tube holding up the center support bearing? You never know what kind of forces will happen with a fully loaded box and trying to get the truck to move with limited traction and or spin and grab......
I know this is off the subject of the video, but being that it is an ex-military truck, is it a straight 24 volt system. I mean with like 24 volt everything like lights and you name it. I had some ex-military trailers in the shop few years back that a guy wanted to use. All the lights were 24-volt, and all the wiring on the whole trailer was really too small to handle the amperage of the 12 volt lights
I gotta say it!! 😝 “an-u-lar” cutter. I know that’s not how it’s spelled. Just bein a dink. 🥴 Also. I have one about push locks as well. I used them on the pex in my shop for my outdoor furnace connections. Called shark bite fittings but are the same thing. Had one come apart in my shop one night and came down the next morning to a flooded and frozen shop!!! 🤬🤬🤬. If it was concrete it wouldn’t have been bad. But my floor is two layers of 3/4 advantec plywood on top of 2x10’s on 1’ centers so it got in between the layers of plywood. Dried it out as best I could but when 175 gallons of antifreeze/water slush is on the floor it was pretty hard to dry out !! Needless to say I changed out all the fittings to the crimp ring style. What a expensive sucky deal that was.
Honestly I’d do anything for a flooded shop floor right now. It would be so much better then a burned floor. What a sucky summer I have had so far man. Shop burned flat and then my freakin dog of nine years died out of the blue 🤷♂️😢 seems like this year is just one blow after another.
Can't believe how easy you make things look. You got that truck out without taking out the garage door doing it. If you ever need to enlarge that opening just let me show you how it would have happened with me trying to get that truck out....lol Loved the view from above the truck that showed all the great work you two have done to it so far. Great Job!
??? "Secerns" in the title... So, what exactly are you discriminating or distinguishing in thought? (the definition of "Secern")... Or is that just a fancy way of typing Scenes? lol???
