Getting Started with Proxmox PVE API using Token authentication
The video is part of a Proxmox PVE Nested Virtualization home lab series, where we will be building out a lab environment to test Proxmox no subscription features and functionality.
Since Broadcom's acquisition of VMware, many customers are looking elsewhere for their virtualisation requirements - this video shows what you need to do to use the Proxmox REST API using API token authentication.
In this video, we run through the following with the API.
We look at:
Setting up an API token.
Getting the secret to use with the token.
Adding the correct headers to access the API in Postman(see below).
Getting a response from the API.
Privilege separation and what this means for access permissions.
Some troubleshooting of the permissions.
Note - it isn't mentioned in the video, but Postman should be set to disable SSL certificate verification.
The Authorization header value to use is:
PVEAPIToken=username@realm!tokenid=tokensecret
For example:
PVEAPIToken=user2@pve!Iu0jrNA1kxsQED3PUgzXIe44=ada9567a-39cc-4370-9951-3eb8c44b9e08
