I came across your All-round defender series, which addressed a lot of concerns for me, especially around the imposter syndrome (thanks youtube algorithm). I then looked at your Twitter account to find out a bit more. Eventually landed back here on youtube, and had to pause the video midstream to write this comment after you mentioned the bonded NICs and bridging being a little confusing. I really was able to relate to it quite deeply. I run Proxmox for my home lab (novice) and I had to bridge my network in order to tap my lab with Security Onion. Let's just say it took a while but I learnt a lot about the ovsbridge...Thanks for the great content!
Glad you enjoyed it! I may try to cover other aspects in more detail like networking or Ceph. It may be a bit though as I'm moving on to other lab focused items
With ceph they will not (technically it depends on the Ceph implementation and were the individual VM data resides within Ceph). The VMs will go down until at least 2 of the 3 are back online
Hello. This is awesome. I am a bigfan of Proxmox. My company has HyperV so, I am setting a home lab to learn hyper v. However, I want Proxmox on the bare metal and then have nested HyperV's. do you think this is good idea ? Do you have any videos on nested HyperV on to Proxmox ?
great content, maybe you could put some vids about ceph, how to use it properly, advantages/disadvantages, tuning, things to take care of.. and so on. There not so much info about Proxmox and Ceph. Thx and subbed.
That's a great recommendation. Ceph storage can get pretty complicated and Proxmox allows for some really interesting use cases. I've got a whole list of content I'm wanting to push out, but I'll keep this suggestion in mind.
Just found your channel....was interested in getting my first Proxmox install going....your video was beyond where I am at...but will sub just in case I can get it working
I want to install Proxmox for my small business. Very small business. Will the Dell R650 (is that the model you referenced in your video?) be a good choice? What should I look for if buying from eBay? Hypervisor 1. Also, how do I migrate my current WIn10 install over to Proxmox? I am thinking of renting online( cloud) virtual OS then migrate to my virtual server. Also, would Proxmox replace the need for an additional appliance? One more thing I noticed Hyper-V is running in my Win10 laptop install. Will that affect anything?
I have nothing interesting except you probably want to buy an H200 card on eBay and flash it into IT mode. This will work with software RAID such as ZFS.
I sent weeks trying to get Open Stack working, then gave up and tried for weeks to get Kubernetes working with no luck due to bugs. I spent about two hours following your tutorial and I am up and running. Amazing! Great tutorial. If we have two 1G NICS with LACP to two different switches and two 10G NICS with LACP to two other switches, is there a way to force Proxmox to use the 1G for management and 10G for Ceph and VM use? Thanks again!
That's great. To answer your question yes. You can put different ip addresses and subnets on the 1g NICs vs the 10g NICs. Then make sure your ceph cluster uses the ip addresses on the 10 gb NICs. Then use virtual switches to control your vm traffic and assign those to the 10 g NICs
Proxmox is missing some features like CPU passthrough that other Hypervisors have and this seems odd to me. I use Proxmox out of curiosity and I also use others for comparison and both Cockpit and Unraid seem to have better features for what I need. I do not know why people seem to say they love Proxmox so much.
I appreciate your input. I've heard others really like Unraid. I think it's great but personally prefer Proxmox. I've never used Cockpit so thank you for sharing it.
Have any of you tried to run the VE on a 12th gen Intel machine? The new hybrid CPUs have P-Cores and E-Cores and I’m not sure if Debian is able to see them. If Intel is going in this direction, then all future CPUs will have the similar characteristics. Apparently the future Intel Enterprise CPUs (Xeon) will use the LGA1800 socket which will almost identical to the LGA1700 of the Alder Lake. So I guess at one point Proxmox will have to follow the trend with the new generation CPUs. I ask a Proxmox guru like you: Can we install VE on a 12th gen motherboard and take advantage of 12th gen. full functionality?
Great Tutorial, i realized you installed proxmox on a single disk without using raid1 logical volume for fault torrerance. I wanted to know what would happen in case the disk with the proxmox installation fails or crashes?
Without raid 1 on the OS, a hard drive failure would make me lose the system. However, in the video I used ceph to create a software hyperconverged shared storage. Thus, I wouldn't lose any vms, containers, or data stored in ceph. Best practice would be to use raid one on the os drive. However, I wouldn't lose anything important in this example. I'd just be inconvenienced with having to reinstall the system that had a hard drive failure on the os drive
@@HASecuritySolutions thanks for the quick response, so would you recommend mixing raid with ceph fs? For example if you have many disks, and dedicate like two of them for raid1 and the rest for ceph? Wouldn't that improve the fault tolerance of the entire system?
New to Proxmox just installed fresh 7.1 went through the setup everything went fine but after reboot the server does not connect to the network any help is appreciated.
Couple questions: 1. Does your network have dhcp enabled 2. Does ifconfig show your NICs 3. Are you requiring vlans to be specified to be placed on the right network?
Getting issue to create CT in proxmox7, the msg getting "WARN: old systemd (< v232) detected, container won't run in a pure cgroupv2 environment! Please see documentation -> container -> cgroup version. TASK WARNINGS: 1" . Please help why this error is coming and Lxc container not getting console access. The Lxc os is centos7. Thanks in advance.
hi, followed your tutorial...installed proxmox...all went well, i think... i am stuck at pve login....how should i login or how how should i move to web ui.. i am just unable to do anything...would appreciate your help...thanks..
Not sure from comment what went wrong. You should be able to login with the same credential at the console and the gui. I hope it started working for you
For this, you'll either need to plug the USB into the server and pass it through directly to the VM or use a software client that does USB pass-through (RDP, etc). This may help: pve.proxmox.com/wiki/USB_Devices_in_Virtual_Machines
To my knowledge you cannot directly do that. You'd have to install Proxmox and attempt to convert each VMware virtual machine to a Proxmox compatible format. Converting vms is absolutely doable but not as easy as it sounds
