PRP injection and stem cell therapy explained. PRP (platelet rich plasma) injection and stem cell therapy are increasingly becoming excellent treatment options for orthopedic conditions. We’ve seen incredible success using orthobiologics in professional and collegiate athletes and are now using it to treat weekend warriors, the industrial athlete, and anyone else who has painful orthopedic conditions. This video will explore why orthobiologic treatment is taking over cortisone injections as the treatment of choice in sports medicine. I’ll explain why and how PRP works as well as review the latest clinical trial data.

$7,000 total. 3 injections, twice a week knee stretching and laser treatment of my knee. The stretching and laser treatment total 24 sessions. After 2 weeks I do feel an improvement in my knee, but I have a way to go to be pain free. My Dr. wants me to continue my soft (shock) wave therapy, which I get once every 3 weeks. Hope this helps. I will be happy to share my journey of the healing of my knee.

I have been being told I need a knee replacement for 6 years now. I also was scheduled for a knee surgery for a torn meniscus in the other knee. I also have arthritis in both knees. I just really did not want to do the replacement! I had stem cell therapy from my own bone marrow 6 weeks ago now. I have less pain than I’ve had for 6 years now! I can walk with out limping which is amazing!! I’m doing strengthening exercises now and am very hopeful for full return to function!

You really want to attack your osteoarthritis, switch to a ketogenic diet. Super easy if you do the healthy ketogenic route. Literally will kill your pain in 3-5 weeks. Boost your vitamin K2 & magnesium intake. Watch what happens. I'm 99% sure osteoarthritis is literally caused from being lied to about how & what we are supposed to eat. Add in intermittent fasting & periodic prolonged fasting, because we actually produce our own stem cells! You can beat this without some medical treatments. Time for you to be proactive in your own health! Don't just take the doctors words. They treat the symptoms, not the actual cause.

I have an L5-S1 Herniated disc with a 3mm annular tear. It’s been a long journey about 2 years now and not back to normal yet. I’ve done all conservative treatments and continue to do Chiropractic and Acupuncture Treatments. I’ve been trying to do PRP for a year and I’ve had 4 doctors approve the idea of it for Workers Comp. Still waiting for insurance to approve it but I’m hopeful to try PRP when it does get approved and I plan on documenting my results.

Don't wait. I waited for 3 years and am still getting excuses about covering prp even though there are plenty of data proving successful results. I caved to my provider and went for the steroids for 3 years and had little long term relief. I suspect it also decreased bone density in my hip area. I found a very knowledgeable and experienced Alternative health physician who has administered PRP for over 15 years including what we have both been dealing with . I bit the bullet and paid a little under $1000 for her lab work,supplements, and 2 series of multiple injection points along my lumbar and sacral areas. I am Thrilled by the quick response and both areas have significant improvement in both mobility and stability .I'm going for physical therapy 2 times weekly and may not even need another visit to assess if more prp is needed. The longer you wait,the older you become and all the time waiting for worker's comp can't be recaptured. Even my pain management physician is supportive and happy about my successful results No more steroids for this girl. Your health is The most important thing for quality of life. Don't let insurance companies stand in your way to regain yours.

@@karenshelters8197 thanks for sharing.. ive had hand pain for 2 years now, mostly in my index fingers but at times in multiple fingers and palms, I suspect i have a lot of micro tendon damage which now caused "trigger finger" which doesnt ever lock but i get clicking when moving fingers most of the time and my tendons get sore easily or are in pain most of the time.. I did one cortisone shot and regret it already as its been 1 month and i feel like it was a waste of money and time as well as no real healing affect for me. I will look at PRP injections and hope this helps my hand/tendon pains

With all this new information out here, one would think doctors would hold off on prescribing cortisone shots. Just today another coworker, a healthy avid runner just told me that her doctor recommended Cortisone steroid shots for her ankle pain. Zero mention of PRP as a better alternative.

This usually has to do with 1) how much blood is drawn and 2) how good the kit is at retaining platelets and growth factors. Most kits do a good job at retaining platelets and growth factors, so it really seems like the amount of blood taken is one of the key things to look for. It seems like around 20-30cc is a minimum for small areas and around 50-60cc for larger areas. Definitely an area of active research!

In regards to hip labral tears I see this 2019 study (ref below) concluding with: "Ultrasound-guided injection of platelet-rich plasma holds promise as an emerging, minimally invasive technique toward symptom relief, reducing pain, and improving function in patients with hip labral tears." Question: Would you say there's a possibility that PRP might work for labral tears / instability in the shoulder as well? Thanks for your comment. As with everything, it depends. Are labral tears isolated or in the presence of hip osteoarthritis? If there is underlying OA, chances are yes, the PRP will work. I don't believe I have seen any studies looking at PRP in the use of shoulder instability (I could be wrong, just nothing in recent memory).

Great Video Jeff, like it when these types of videos are backed up with evidence-based peer reviewed research papers. I have mod/severe knee OA in both knees. How often would you recommend PRP injections? I know you said it takes time for effects to happen. I guess the gaol of PRP is to slow down the OA progression and delay the inevitable TKR. Are there any side effects to PRP, I guess there is the same infection risk as a cortisone injection, which is about 1 in 1000. I think?

The beauty of PRP is that it's you!! No risk of allergic reaction. No toxicity. The only risk is infection, but if done with sterile technique, the risk is really minimal and close to zero.

Yes, thank you for the great videos on PRP and Stem Cells Therapy. I especially liked your info @ 21:10, "...Bone Marrow Stem Cells was not superior to PRP." This is great news for me because I already took PRP for a mild case of Osteoarthritis for both knees and I was considering stem cell therapy. One quote here gave me $6000 for Stem Cell Therapy (not sure if that was adipose fat tissue or bone marrow) and one quoted me $1000 for 2-3 joints using PRP. I think I'll go with the PRP. I did notice that the first time I took PRP the effects only lasted about six months, but that could just be the concentration of platelets for the first attempt. This time the machine that they're using concentrates platelets at 5-10x baseline. Hope this one lasts longer. Thanks again for the videos. Keep them coming, and Happy New Year!

I have craniocervical instability and occipital neuralgia and pain management is willing to try PRP injections for my lax ligaments as well as wanting to target c3 facet joint. I had whiplash injury from car accident in 2019 and have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. He told me there are no idea of outcome but since I had success with PRP in my shoulder for rotator cuff tear he wants to be hopeful.

I am currently trying to decide where to go to get a PRP injection. We have all these QC Kinetics clinics popping up all over my area, but I don't know how to tell if they are a legit place for this procedure. I have always used TRIA sports clinics for my injury's and they offer PRP injections at 900 per shot. I am also located near the Mayo clinic as they also offer the PRP. It is hard to determine where I should go and after watching this great video, I really want to make sure to get the most platelets in the injection for my knee. Meniscus tear and start of some arthritis. Runner, racer, and cyclist btw.

I just started working with them for shoulder. I am not sure why all the hate on QC Kenetics I wish someone would review them that is legit. They work with ultrasound to find the right places to put the plasma and I have a 5 session program including stem cells ahead. I am very hopeful

We're still not entirely sure what the "best" is. More research is being done on this topic. What is clear -- too little and it's not good enough. Too much could also be detrimental. The big question is where is the sweet spot... to be determined!

Unfortunately umbilical MSC treatments are still VERY new and there is no robust head to head comparison data between them and PRP. Hopefully they will get done one day, but until then, PRP is still my gold standard for orthobiologic therapy.

Effect of Intra-articular Platelet-Rich Plasma vs Placebo Injection on Pain and Medial Tibial Cartilage Volume in Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis I think it’s BS because they didn’t even use PRP. And I don’t even think they know what the actual cell count was, or even have a way to verify it. Anyway, just annoys me because these therapies are the future.

Unfortunately PRP has not been extensively studied for peripheral neuropathy. There are case reports that it works for conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, but no larger trials (to my knowledge).

PRP and biologics have not been studied for retrocalcaneal or retro achilles bursitis. In theory it will work. But I cannot back that statement up with clinical trial data.

Thanks for your question. Much less data on that because they aren't as common as arthritis in the knee or the hip. With that said, most doctors make the logical leap that if orthobiologics work for arthritis in one joint, it should work for arthritis in another joint.

I have a lot of pain in my right knee doctor said I should have surgery. But I have A-Fib in which I take a blood thinner. He’s not sure I can have replacement surgery with the A-Fib and blood thinner that none of my doctors will agree to have it done. Other option would be PRP. I do have tremendous pain and not very active. Is there any way you can help me? Thank you

Hello doctor (I am from Asia) I want to ask : Is it possible to heal piriformis syndrome by injecting PRP? (my right piriformis is manifested inflame under ultrasound scan) I took tons of treatments, e.g. steroid, shockwave, ultrasound but it seems like these therapies did not work for me. I just got my first dextrose prolotherapy injection about 10 days ago, I still didn’t have a noticeable sciatic pain relief. This pain really hurts my routine life for half year🥲 I just hope PRP will work(only a bit search I could find, so I couldn’t tell weather PRP works or not for bad piriformis syndrome)

Over the years, I've had a number of small injuries to the left shoulder & bicep tendons. Doctor insisted that Cortisone was the only way to fix the issues at hand. I had 2 rounds of Cortisone injection in the shoulder & tendons at upper bicep. There was no pain relief & approximately 9 months later, the long head tendon tore from anchor point. It was 1.5 years before I got in for surgery to pull bicep back into place, which could not be pulled fully back. I will never accept Cortisone injections ever again.

We are going to see a specialist for stem cell therapy to be injected directly into the acl as our first option before considering surgery. Both are potentially good options, but PRP seems to be MUCH better. Not a lot of head to head trials. This is one example, however, they used low dose inferior quality PRP and found that PRP is still favored. High dose PRP would result in better outcomes. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36166187/

Excellent video , the dose of medication is always important consideration when making an analysus in medical studies in order to get a good result this was not considered before making a bad analysis recomendation that a medication does not work, because of this poor study insurance companies can now use the excuse for not paying for medical care that is needed causing millions of people to suffer from artritic conditions just like in the past they showed studies that it was the fat and meat products that were killing people not the sugars and starches breads and recommended people to eat mainly carbohydrates instead of permitting meats and fats ,now millions of people are dying from obesity and heart disease and cancer because of the sugars breads and carbohydrates led to multiple diseases this concept was accepted by the medical establishment as true and recommended could there have been also some type of incentive from insurance companies for this study to have shown that prp did not work?Now people are dying because they cant move they cant exercise they cant enjoy the rest of their lives with their families becausevthey cant .move

This is a great example of why in vitro studies are not the same as in vivo studies. MMPs are associated with worsening cartilage destruction and osteoarthritis. So you would think injecting any solution with MMPs would be counterproductive. But in actuality, synovial fluid analysis after PRP injections show DECREASED inflammatory cytokines (TNFa, IL1b). First of all, I want to thank you for all this information. I have watched tons of videos, and I just hate when people say “studies have found”, I’m a chemist, so proofs and information is really important for me, and I love the fact you do show the publications, and I have looked for some. That’s very profesional Now, I have a couple of question. I have had 2 knee surgeries, and a few weeks ago, my orthopedist asked for an MRI to confirm if my meniscus is torn, I haven’t gotten the scan, because i don’t want a 3rd surgery (ignorance sometimes is better 🥲😅) I found very interesting what you explained in another video, that maybe the cause of a tear is the OA. I know there is no way to regenerate cartilage, my surgeon suggested I should start taking glucosamine with Chondroitin sulfate, Is there evidence about the effectiveness of this? Also, do you know if this condition (OA) can be potentiated somehow with flat feet, or bad posture? And about plasma, what my surgeons explained is that, the growth factors are the ones that will be involved in the “healing” process, now the concentration or presence of those growth factors, could vary? Could they be affected by the eating style of a person? And last question. As I understand, the weight plays a big role in all this, I’m 5’11” and 160 pounds, Would you say is better to lose more weight, the less the better?

Mixed studies for glucosamine, likely little to no harm in trying. 2. Yes, biomechanical problems can lead to worsening arthritis. 3. Yes, type and preparation of PRP matters... a LOT. 4. Diet matters significantly. Aim for more fruits and vegetables (ie. anti-inflammatory diet) 5. Weight is critical. Adipose tissue release inflammatory adipokines which are problematic in arthritis.
