Come visit with us as we will have members of the T1 Trust available to talk with as well as our Boiler and other parts on display. Come out May 14-15, 2022 to Harrisburg, PA. We will be located at the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey Hotel located at 4650 Lindle Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17111. We will have member available from 10-4 on Saturday and 10-2 on Sunday.

@@rearspeaker6364 people really underestimate steam. I truly believe they must advertise the absolute hell out of this!!! Really really put it everywhere and get thousands of rail fans to line up to watch them break the 112mph record for steam, for steam to keep living we need special big advertised breathe taking events and for an event for this sized steam locomotive for people to see from all over the world going 150+ will not be forgotten in the history books.

50 years ago, when I was a high school student, I saw a pictures of this engine in a book, and read the description about it. I was very sad, that all of this engines were scraped. Now I'm very happy to see it is going to reborn, and very happy to see there are engeneers and craftsman with the skills to make it.

That boiler and cab looks absolutely gorgeous! I can already see this pretty girl in her completed form! You know, I have been thinking about the Franklin Type B2 poppet valve gear that's going to be used on this one. I remember reading that one T1 had an accident, but was later repaired and refitted with the Franklin Type B Valve Gear, replacing the original Type A valve gear. I believe that if production of the T1 was to actually resume in the late 1940s, the newer T1s certainly would've been built with the newer Franklin Type B poppet valve gear rather than the Type A of the original. But anyways, wishing you the best of luck in getting this baby running!

@LegoMan66 I’ll tell you why. Since our planet is facing a climate crisis, we need to introduce modern steam to this generation of railroading. Besides, the GPCS firebox has lots of technological benefits that give traditional ones a run for their money: no entrained unburned fuel particles, primary combustion air at 30%, secondary combustion air at 70%, and a thicker firebed. In fact, there’s an article that explains the many benefits of modern steam locomotive technology we can use to upgrade surviving steam locomotives. (I tried to present it in the comments section, but it got promptly deleted.) And then there’s torrefied biomass to consider. Hybrid poplar trees make the finest biocoal on Earth. Not only does it make the fire last longer, but it also gives off less carbon emissions than anthracite. The more trees we plant, the more biocoal we can produce. It’s fool-proof!

@@IndustrialParrot2816 If coppicing will work for hybrid poplar trees and bamboo is sustainable enough to give steam locomotives a roaring fire, then sure, I don’t see why not. And come to think of it, I can’t help but wonder if propane would make a good alternative fuel for diesels if biofuel is off the table.

I was just thinking about how this project was going while watching the latest video on the Reading and Northern T1. I was shocked to see the fire box and boiler all framed out with the nose cap on. I'm a Pennsy steam fan because of the unique look the locomotives had. Great job, and keep on rolling.

I'm really tempted. I'm down in the DC area and it would be about a 130 mile drive. The main problem is that my car is a Chevy Spark EV with 80 miles of range. To be safe, I would stop to charge multiple times. The preferred option would be to take the train. The problem with that is the cost, given how late I would be booking it. Round trip is $260, and I'm a broke college student.

That is one huge boiler. The question is though where is it going to run? It can't go on the main line without being fitted with Positive Train Control which is something historically the t1s never had

Besides the main line, the trust has agreements with short lines and tourist railroads to operate 5550 when complete such as Steamtown, Cuyahoga Valley, Steam Railroading Institute, etc.

@@rearspeaker6364 Ah yes, the 60163 4-8-2 Tornado is the reason this whole "bring back extinct steam locomotives" trend has been started. I wonder if we can even bring back NYC Hudson, PRR Q2, and Southern Pacific AC-9? Maybe the PRR S1, perhaps modify it into a 2-4-4-4-2 Triplex?

not really sadly. the boiler frame is done and the cab along with other components but the undercarriage and boiler interior are not. They are mostly working on cosmetic exterior to make the progress seem as complete as possible to bring in more donations. Its expected to be finished in around 2030. Still cant wait!

Given this is actually happening i wonder if after they do Pennsys T1 they could make her rival The J3A hudson from NYC in the 20th centrury limited as NYC centruryltd and the broadway ltd would race into there ends of the stretch when theyd meet up. itd bring back 2 extinct giaants of the rails

🎢 honestly my professional opinion is when it's done ship it over to strasburg they know how to handle their steam engines and also is this a functioning steam engine or is it just going to be ecstatic display cuz it would be cool if it was the static display it would be fucking amazing if they actually got a running t1 and fix the wheel slip problem

The PRR T1 5550 will be operating on different short line railroads and tourist railroads, when complete. They will approach to class one railroads for any operating opportunities, when complete. So far, they have invites from multiple short lines to operate it. Also, they will perform high speed testing at the test loop in Pueblo, CO.

@@cherirutherford7435 Union Pacific will only use 844 and 4014. The railroad doesn’t seem interested in other steam locomotives running on their rails.
