I didn’t mention this in the video but it’s worth noting - I love John Mayer. A lot. But I’ve never felt a strong desire to learn his songs. I know a handful and can fake a few more. But for me, listening to his music is a special thing. May sound weird or corny to some but it’s just what it is and I love that about his music. That’s why there’s really no Mayer licks in this thing 😂 We knew other videos would focus on that too so that’s also why we made sure to showcase the genre we make content for (praise and worship). Thanks for watching!
Actually, I like that you didn’t do John Mayer’s lick over and over here… don’t get me wrong, I love John Mayer and if I would be a better player, I would play his songs too. But we know plenty of youtubers will, so it’s better to see this new instrument in your element, which is worship music.
A word about the neck shape, some time after the original Silver Sky release in 2018, PRS altered the shape of the rosewood models only. "The maple fretboard option comes with the original 635JM neck shape, while the rosewood fretboard option has been subtly modified in the shoulders to feel more 'rounded' in your hand." So, the neck shape of the SE might still be closer to the slimmer core maple version.
I ordered the core model the month it debuted four years ago and have led worship with it ever since. Anyone that has picked it up has been complimentary about the quality of the instrument. I’m excited to see this new version get into the worship world at a more accessible price. Great review Brian and Bradford! Also, pair the Silver Sky with the Browne Protein - Green Side, and you have tone for days!
Nice video. One correction in case it has not been mentioned. The first tone knob is for the "bridge" pick up alone. The second tone knob handles the middle and neck pick up. Good job guys.
@@bmitchellmusic no worries. Not that I hang on every last detail but I did happen to watch Bryan Ewald do the actual PRS demo from the factory right before watching yours and he said that the first tone knob, the one right under the volume knob, is the bridge alone. The second tone knob is for the middle and neck pick ups. Once again, great video, and thank you for all the effort you put into these videos. I happen to be a friend of Paul Smith's from way back and I have met Bryan several times and I'm sure they are both happy to see people like you demonstrating their guitars and what not. I've also enjoyed your videos on Fractal gear. God bless
Bradford... There is a correction on the official PRS demonstration done by Bryan Ewald. You were correct in your initial description of the electronics of the guitar. I didn't know, but I did know that the two of you had different descriptions. Yours was the correct one. Once again, thanks for the videos and everything you guys do. You've got a fan here in Maryland.
Great sample 4 of I'm Gonna Find Another You. If that wasn't it, then I don't know what I just heard lol. One of my favorite JM songs. I've been playing a PRS McCarty for 20 years now. Great guitars. But I've been playing a 1994 Mexican Strat now for that last year and it just fits me right. So this Silver Sky has my attention at the moment.
John Mayer doing Human Nature was so beautifully done. I agree his tone was PHENOMENAL!!!! But my favorite song is Assassin for his songwriting. Favorite songs based on electric is anything he did with his trio. Favorite Acoustic songs is IN YOUR ATMOSPHERE. I was blown away by how he made the acoustic sound like a violin!!!!!!! MIND BLOWN. But all time favorite song to jam to is Rosie. Named my Yamaha rosewood acoustic after that song haha.
its strange that "Evergreen" looks slightly more yellow on their website but its more of a teal here? what would you say is more true in person? just curious as ive already ordered this color haha
Will you guys ever do a comparison video between the SE Silver Sky and the SE Custom 24? That would be awesome and I bet soooooooo many people would tune in to see a video like that!!
I’m curious as to your opinions on the new line of D’Angelico solid body guitars. The Bedford, Atlantic, and Brighton models seem to be decent quality in the same price range as this new PRS, with a wide tonal range with two coil-tapping humbuckers.
I’d have to say “Who Did You Think I Was?” Or “Good Love Is On The Way” on of “Where the Light is” live album. Also patiently Waiting for John Mayers comment
May have to add that to my arsenal when they become more widely available. Favorite Mayer tone... maybe Belief or Vultures... Shouldn't Matter But It Does...
I'll have mine tomorrow! Did you guys use a noisegate on the heavy stuff? Just curious, our church has Horrible EMI. I can't wait another 24 hours! Lol
I am very interested in a Silver Sky but I want the 2023 with a gray body and maple neck.. but never in green.. if I was given a green Silver Sky I would sell it to get another guitar🤪😂🤪. U enjoy your channel and great review guys🤘🏻🤘🏻 God bless.
As a John Mayer fan-it’s actually awesome!! As a P&W guy, although it’s a strat and we know this about their bridge pickups- this too is pretty harsh. I had my AirPods in listening and when you kicked that drive on- man… lol I had to take my buds out. Way too piercing and brash. It’s a pass for me since I have 2 of the core versions. Great thorough review though guys.
yes i totally agree about the bridge pickup being a little too harsh... what I do on my Strat is I turn down the tone knob a little bit to kinda tame that harsh sound.
Tone is brighter on purpose, on the US version too, it was explain that John Mayer wanted that. If you don’t like it, just use the tone know, it’s there for a reason… I can’t understand players that always play with their knobs on 10 and no other position… completely missing the point of dialing YOUR tone.
@@Spidouz oh for sure. I just mean playing big beefy super wet p&w chords drowned in effects as opposed to some John Mayer type stuff- it ain’t it. Lol.
Besides the tones and playing, John has So many awesome spiritual themes in his music. Identity, searching, redemption, sin, love, family, … the list goes on. We did a whole episode on the Christian themes in his songs. Such an amazing songwriter.
@@PopCultureCatechism no offense, but I don't think that's accurate. I don't he's writing with God on the mind set. Lyrics in general I could understand because he will write about an emptiness and while I'm sure God would help that I don't think he's meaning it in a Christian aspect. That'd be true for country, heavy metal, etc
I've enjoyed playing my Silver Sky SE (Rosewood Board) & I"m glad I bought it. But it doesn't sound at all like my Fender AmPro Strat which sounds clearer and has more highs. The Siilver Sky is an impressive build, I like the feel of the neck and fretboard. But, I'm not sure it's fair to compare the 2, the AmPro is more than twice the price of the Silver Sky SE.
Not a jm fan missed that by a couple of generations. However love you guys too …I did watch to the end. Finally did my DLX patch update on my helix floor, sounds good through my newish lp studio or is that vice versa?
Man I bought the prs se standard 24 I still got 30 days to return it but not sure if I want to pay the difference and upgrade is it worth it or should I just wait till I get more experience and then buy a more expensive guitar
We used Axe-FX 3 for the playing samples. We pulled up a variety of patches - a new one we’re working on with the Chieftain and DC30 in stereo, and the Bass Men patch.
Hey guys! Great video!!! Quick question, how does this guitar compare to a Yamaha Pacifica 612 , which is less money, seamore duncan pickups, locking tuners etc. would love a comparison video….
Nice guitar and nice tones! But just wondering if the one you get will be the one we will get? Because I have heard that instrument companies give their best in the lot, specially set up guitars (better than standard set up) for youtubers to review whereas the one we purchase may not be put together or set up as well.
In my experience with PRS, this would absolutely be the one everyone gets. Their quality control is absolutely top shelf. I've personally bought a lot of PRS guitars (both core and SE), and they're all pretty much perfect. I understand the sentiment, though - it's definitely a thing with some brands, but not at all with PRS.
YES, It should be a minimum standard at this point that every guitar manufacture includes locking tuners! The one and only mod that needs done on this model SE.
Hey worship tutorials so I am looking for a new acoustic guitar around $2000 dollars give or take. I definitely want a dreadnought guitar. Any recommendations!!?
