Of all the things I wanted to "mimic" from guitar heroes, their guitar faces weren't one of them. But, whatever your body wants to involuntarily do to introduce the sound-- is fair game.

I did buy this amp recently - must have been one of the first ones coming into Germany. I do have the DG30 since about half a decade and love it, but it stays in the rehearsal room - much too loud for home use. I am quite amazed how PRS managed to put in a lot more features at a much lower price point and still maintain the great sound. It works amazingly well in a dry-wet rig when combined with the PRS HDRX 20, which is my absolute favorite. As far as signature guitars go, I never really bought them to sound like somebody else, just because they were good guitars with specs or finishes I could not get otherwise. My first signature guitar was the Ibanez LR10 (Lee Ritenour model, heavily ES335 inspired) around 1981 - I still have and play it. My latest signature guitar is the PRS Fiore (Mark Lettieri model), which I consider the best guitar I have played in my life (well over 300 since 1976 and most of them more expensive when considering inflation). I did play the Fender Kingfish Tele in a shop recently and was really impressed - this will likely be my next signature model, if nobody stops me.

You got some nice tones going on. My signature amp is a George Benson Hot Rod Deluxe. Benson made a video about the process (it’s somewhere around here). He made a few tasteful mods when he wanted to design an amp to take on the road that would play clean with an eye dropper of crunch and a parking lot of headroom. Still getting to know her as a stand alone and as a pedal platform. Benson later designed a Twin Reverb that might be ultra.

I was always drawn to sound. I also took up the guitar when I was 20, so my motivation wasn’t typical. I was an up-and-coming keyboard player who always had plenty of work. The guitar solo in “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number” and “Midnight At The Oasis” really grabbed me. I bought a ‘72 Strat and got to work. It took me about 10 years of hard work to achieve a respectable level of proficiency. Learning how to get a great sound took at least that long. But I digress. I bought the DGT 15 head, and found it to be an exercise in frustration. At one point I actually had it packed up and ready to send back. One day I decided to give it one more try. I finally stumbled onto a configuration that worked well. The thing that put the amp over the top for me was the matching cabinet. It’s easily the best sounding cab I own. After experimenting with boost and distortion pedals, I found three that give me some great tonal variations. I’m finally at a point where I turn the amp on and just play-no more fiddling with knobs. The DGT 15 is a bit of an enigma, but like anything that comes from PRS, it’s an incredibly well-made piece of gear. It’s one of the warmest production amps I’ve ever played.

Thats the story with the 3 PRS amps I've owned (an HXDA, a Recording Amp and a DG30). They sound great, but they're not made for lower, "house/practice" volume. The gain and "thump" doesn't happen until they're cranked *WAY* up to volume levels that the neighbors will definitely hear. Forget about any of those amps in an apartment. Thats a waste of money, unless you WANNA get kicked out 😂. They're amps for playing out live, not for practice.

I bought this amp. It sounds great and it is LOUD!! I live in a house and can run it at Grissom's settings... but it would destroy my hearing. I am going to return it because I can't see any place where I would be able to use it. In a bar or small club, even a Princeton at 4 can be pushing it. This amp is 10 times that loud if you want to unlock its real potential.

5:30 this is great understanding of how valve amps work. I’ve a nice Hughes and Kettner Grand Meister Deluxe 40. It has 0W, 1W, 5W, 20W power soak modes and of course the full 40W mode. 40W isn’t 8 times louder than 5W. In fact even in 1W mode and sufficiently cranked i could have NZ police and Auckland City Councils noise police knocking on my apartment door in cranked 1W mode and trying to confiscate my amp. Seriously They won’t do that coz ya need 3 warnings i think? But still you get my point. 1W is loud.

Same here. I tried a DG50 and wasnt impressed at all. I DID own a 50 watt PRS HXDA which sounded way better. It was crunchier and had much more gain, and overall, it just sounded better, imo. Same with the DG30. I loved the tone, but it needs to be able to get more gain. Not looking for a metal amp, but even with the gain fully cranked and the switch on the back panel set for higher gain, it had a nice crunchy rhythm tone, but it needed more for a lead tone.

They have done nothing. My Tonex pedal can get any tone under the sun. I power it with a Vox nutube amp (fluorescent tubes, the amp cost $250, and it’s the size of a pedal, and weighs less than my shoe). Basically, I get any sound I want. I can travel anywhere I want with it …without added expenses or years of back pain from the weight, and it’s all super affordable. Unless you have roadies, or just a gear snob, why would anyone buy a large amp, especially one with heavy tubes in it. It’s just not a smart thing to do.

What exactly is a tube reverb?
@Ray-xx5np
@Ray-xx5np Месяц назад
A tube reverb is the reverb in an amp that is driven (driven: receives power and sends the reverb signal) by its own dedicated tube, instead of by a solid state chip or circuit. Tube reverb tends to be more "natural" sounding. Solid state reverbs can sound sort of artificial, though some (solid state) reverb pedals do sound amazing. I have a couple of amps that dont have reverb, but do have an effects loop, which I use a reverb pedal (a Fender Marine Layer Reverb pedal) and its indistinguishable from a tube driven reverb that might have been built into the amp.

A little off topic, but what was it about the DGT that you think is miles above the double cut 594? I played them both back to back in a store just over a week ago, so have my thoughts on the two, but I would say they are two sides of the same coin, just slight preference differences (Trem vs Fixed Bridge). Pickups are slightly different etc.
@jacksonvillejared
@jacksonvillejared 2 месяца назад
My experience with both guitars is they share similarities for sure but to me the dgt felt like it had a little more attention to detail on some of the small things. The dgt out of the box was ready to go. While the 594 I had to level the frets and lower the action considerably to get the similar action. Another win for the dgt was the trem and 25” scale vs the TOM bridge and 24.594 scale. For me 25 is the perfect compromise between the two common scale lengths commonly used. The dgt s pickups were fat and similar to the 594. But the voicing fit my needs better. The dgt alscame with a bronze infused synthetic but similar to the USA models. Which greatly improves the tuning stability with the trem. Most of the previous Se models I’ve own replacing the cheap plastic nut was one of the first things I did. All in all both guitars are great choices. It was the smaller things that made me keep the dgt and return the 594. The only thing I plan on doing to the dgt is locking tuners. The rest of it is perfect as is. This was my experience. What about you?
@chrispygingerpie
@chrispygingerpie 2 месяца назад
@@jacksonvillejared I’ve played two double cut 594s and one dgt and the fit and finish on all three was great. All PRS SE guitars that come to the uk get checked in the uk before going to suppliers. I have a PRS se 24 that I’ve modded a bunch, graphtech nut and locking tuners the first and had several different pickups in it, currently a SD Trembucker (JB) in the bridge and phatcat P90 in the neck. Also has a Mann made bridge. So I guess the DGT appeals slightly less as I have a good trem, although aesthetic it’s beautiful. I did A/B my CU 24 and 594 a week back and the difference it pickup output was very noticeable, a lot more than the DGT. Just reminded me how much I like my CU24.
@jacksonvillejared
@jacksonvillejared 2 месяца назад
@@chrispygingerpie I’ve owned several newer and older SE guitars. Wasn’t really too pleased with them in the past the DGT was the first SE I was honestly impressed by out of the box. My only gripe with SEs are I wish they had a rolled fretboard edge. I’ve owned a lot of cores and s2 models. To me the best band for the buck is a used S2. One of my main go to guitars for recording and live is a s2 standard 22 with PRS 57/08 pickups and Mann made bridge. I am also a big fan of the vela. In regards to the DGT, I literally pulled it out of the box and played a set with it. Felt great. The 594 the only advantage I see for me is the ability to split the pickups separately. That’s an awesome feature IMO.
@chrispygingerpie
@chrispygingerpie 2 месяца назад
@@jacksonvillejared my cu24 is a 2013/4, got it from Andertons about 9 years ago. I rarely buy guitars online, I have to play them first. I haven’t really gotten on well with the S2’s apart from the Vela, love the shape of it also. I’m trying to decide between the se 594/dgt and a CE 24 (twice the price, but probably scratch the American itch very well to stop the yern for a core for a few years!)
@jacksonvillejared
@jacksonvillejared 2 месяца назад
@@chrispygingerpie the CE line of guitars are great. Most of the ones for sale here in the US have the pattern, thin neck, which I am not a fan of you get SE hardware and USA pick ups. The bolt on neck is great for that snappy response. I think a CE 22 would be a closer match between the DGT and 594. The 24 fret PRS guitars have a different feel to me. I naturally gravitate towards a 22 fret guitar. My standard 24 doesn’t get played as often

Man, when you use ribbon mic, you might want to put it a bit further and put it at an angle from the speaker. I know, you might like the sound you're getting, but ribbon mics are pretty fragile and overtime the ribbon might get a bit loose and streched and the signal will degrade. I've seen a lot of ribbons that were often used with loud sources like amps, without keeping the distance and proper angle, and let me tell you, they all sounded like shit after a year or two.
@smugler1

I'll never understand buying a signature guitar because it's a signature guitar. Heck, the whole reason signature guitars exist is so guitar companies can use the image of artists to make more money, not so more people can play well. Folks, I know these things are fun and cool. But they're so because we learned to think that way with all the years of images suggesting that purchase will get you closer to your idol. But it won't. Maybe what's really cool is having the origin stories of all these signature items. Something like: You found this awesome neck on a strat a random guy from work gave away to you, and it was a lefty neck, but you put it on your thrift shot mustang body anyways and did what you had to do to make it work. It plays and sounds exactly how you want it. It wasn't in the beginning, but some of its imperfections have shaped your technique by now. And what's cool about signature instruments is that they're really only valuable to the player they're a signature of. Get out there and go make your own signature instrument!
