@RecordBreaker101 The 35bn price made sense when the deal was done but the Greece crisis and subsequent market falls meant the price had to be re-negotiated as most insurance company assets are linked to the markets so it was justifiable to ask for a lower price. It's not his fault that the AIG board rejected the revised offer.

When you negotiate a deal it is usual to put a clause which protects both parties should markets move significantly up or down. The Pru made a basic amateurish mistake by not having such a clause in their deal. They have been punished to the tune of £mm in having to pay a break fee.
