I grew up near an airport so when I moved to the country it was nice to not hear planes constantly. But now on my days in the garden I watch Peter and hear Gatwick in the background. Haha. There’s no getting away from the airport. But it sounds like home so it’s not too bad.

Hi Peter, I live close by SFO international airport. I have the view of the airport. It is nice at night. As you know you get used to the noise. I use to live in San Francisco where the Cable Car ran down the hill ringing their bells as they passed the house. Some of the Grip men will have their own beat went they ring their bell and you become aware of who was coming down the hill just by how they ring their bell. (Fun times.) Learn something new it may take a little longer but spend the time to take the wire out carefully instead of the easy way out and just cut the wire off. You can save money to buy new Bonsai supplies. Great show as usual. Learn more about pruning to give the tree energy and prune to shape. Thank you and have a blessed weekend and take care of your hand. 🙏🙏🙏

My criticism of this channel is that I would guess the majority of subscribers are hobbyists and would prefer to see work on trees in development. Additionally I believe anyone with beautiful mature specimens would give each individual tree very special detailed pruning. Herons has literally thousands of trees and their approach to many tasks illustrates that. Thanks, keep growing
@peterchan3100
@peterchan3100 24 дня назад
We must have more major specimens on our nursery than most other nurseries - I prefer not to frighten the ordinary bonsai enthusiasts by working on those trees which aren't relevant to their circumstances . Yes major specimens do need special treatment and we have customers who bring their specimens to us for that too. I dont show these because I respect the privacy of my customers.

I fully agree with Peter. I am one of those hobbyist who 30+ years ago looked into bonsai and got scared by the amount of specialized knowledge and high maintenance work they required so I gave up even before starting. Then few years ago I happened to inherit a few bonsai (nothing special) and searching on RU-vid on how to better care for them I found Peter and his laid back approach. That gave me confidence to start a collection knowing that I could manage those trees and enjoy the hobby even if I don’t have all the time and expertise that high level bonsai requires. 😊

Really useful video on pruning all types of tree, some prune so far back they lose the beauty of the foliage, which always seems a shame to me, the tree spends all winter getting ready in the spring to start producing foliage in the spring, so why cut back the the foliage to almost defoliate it, I use your method and cut back to shape and just cut out the branches that are growing in the wrong place, just cut back to shape is all that is needed, if you cut back so hard on an unhealthy tree it will most likely die as the amount of foliage left cannot sustain the tree. Thank you Peter I follow your methods as much as possible.

The tips are not made for small growers that have 10-20 trees. These tips are for industrial growers and sellers. Peter tells you what he does not what you should do. When you have a small amount of trees, you can be a lot more carefull. Never unwind the wires. Always use wire cutters otherwise you can do a lot of damage to the tree. Great trees are made with a lot of care and attention to very small details.
