Pruning my fig tree - afterthoughts

I recently released a video on how I pruned my fig tree. It generated a lot of questions, both online and offline, about my aggressive pruning.
The main question was, “By cutting off so much, wasn’t I reducing the amount of fruit that the tree would give in the new season?” So, this video mainly addresses that question.
The other was, “Was I damaging the tree by pruning so much off?” No! This tree is over 30 years old and is well established. An aggressive pruning only makes it grow more vigorously in the following season.
If it was a younger tree, I wouldn’t prune it so much - which could indeed damage it. Instead of cutting off ALL the new wood, I’d prune it back by about a third.

Do you think, is it better to keep figs inthe containers or keep them on ground and pruning as you do?

Veery ry interesting indeed. Would the same tips apply to the pruning Roses? Lucky are the neighbours who receive figs. ☺

Yes. If you apply those same pruning rules to roses, they should do well. You need to add this 7th step: cut back up to 1/3 of the remaining branches (cut above an outward facing bud).

Not for roses. It's like servicing a vehicle and a bicycle.

@@FC2ESWS Good idea. I’ll put together a video on my small fruit trees next week. 👍
