I have a couple plantings with larch in them, and for whatever reason the "needles" that came out this year are like 2 or 3 inches long. It's only on two trees (in the same planting), but it looks ridiculous, this little, 6 inch tree with huge pom-poms coming out of it lol. We'll see how it progresses this year, and maybe I can turn a weird quirk into something creative. 😂 It's nice watching how you handle yours, so I can learn and set goals. Thanks as always Nigel!
Thank you Nigel! Always fun and informative to watch your videos! I also like to add a Hickory to my collection. Would be fun to have. Larch is also on the list. I think both would work in Sweden. With some winter protection
After this video, I guess this is "larch week". Ten seedlings need attention. Really appreciate the detailed explanation for pruning. Look out little trees!
Good point you made about larch growth habits. Here, northern UK, many are columnar forms like the ones you see, but then there are some that start off straight then seem to lose the plot with multiple tops and branches going off in random directions. They look great and I wonder if it's a genetic thing rather than their particular context. I have a Siberian larch that certainly hears its own drummer!
I love trying to guess which part of the tree he’s going to prune before he says it😊 after watching hundreds of your videos I am starting to get the hang of the thought process and theories behind clip and grow :-) thank you Nigel Saunders you are my bonsai sensei❤
Lol It's rare and beautiful that even your wife violates your "no new trees" policy!!! My Lady's the one who tells me "you don't need anymore plants"...But I'm rebellious!😋
