Prussian Carp are becoming a severe threat to Alberta’s native fish populations.
Already confirmed in the Red Deer, South Saskatchewan & other southern Alberta water bodies, Prussian Carp appear to be expanding their range.
Determining where these fish are calling home has become somewhat of a CSI investigation.
The Alberta Conservation Association is sampling sites across the province to determine the range of the carp.
The Prussian Carp can adapt to just about any aquatic environment, add to this their unique spawning abilities and you would think we were dealing with some alien life form.
So bottom line, if you catch a Prussian Carp, take it home to eat, or dispose of the carcass properly.

Their hella tasty if correctly prepared, but they have quite a lot of bones.Just score them a lot,and the bones will melt while frying. Also,if you want to fish for them-12 ft. Crappie pole, light float,a nr.8 hook, and some worms or a can of sweet corn is the way to go. Really fun too!

Take them home and brine them for a few hours and then place the filets in a smoker.

The prussian carp (Carassius gibelio) is the ancestor of all goldfish! Goldfish are nothing more than colorbreedings of the prussian carp. The common goldfish even has the same shape like its ancestor.
