PSX/PSOne BIOS damage may occur due to improper use of the console. For example: spilling water on the console, throwing and hitting the console,turning it off incorrectly, doing experiments with electricity.

How are these corruptions performed on (presumably) real hardware?

yes, real hardware. and with a screwdriver touching the pins of one of the chips. not recommended tho

Maybe you should buy a new one cause that ps1 is old and broken. Buy a ps5 or if you you want ps1 go ahead buy ps1
