In this video I replace the fan fuse in an Original Fat PS2 console. This video will also help if you just need to replace the fan.
Please be careful when working on electronics as some components can hold a charge even if the unit is powered off.

This video just came in when I needed it! I had an old dusty PS2 that I recently cleaned out but now I'm having this fan issue, even with the replacement fan I ordered. It was working before the cleaning. Do you think this can be related?
@radiantcharisma
@radiantcharisma Год назад
I think I found the problem, the PS5 one doesn't show continuity (same revision as yours). Dumb question, what are these black pieces called and how to get/search for them?
@EasyConsoleFixes
@EasyConsoleFixes Год назад
Glad the video was able to help. Was the cable of the old fan damaged during the cleaning, this can cause the fuses to blow. If you have the same board PS5 is a 0.7a fuse. If you search for 0.7a SMD fuse you should see some options. They come in different sizes, try and get one with similar dimensions.

@@EasyConsoleFixes I think when I was spraying compressed air on the fan, it was spinning, might be the only connection to it. If so, that's pretty unfortunate. I was actually able to obtain a 0.75A fast acting glass fuse (not SMD) but I have not implemented it yet. I have not found proper SMD but thought this can work too. I got stuck where I would have to connect this glass fuse to the motherboard. I am not sure what type of wire or gauge to use, but could easily be overthinking it. This is the video reference ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3mHuh-lVBS8.html Right now I'm toying with usb wiring as the last resort or temporarily testing fans, but would like to fix it internally.
@EasyConsoleFixes
@EasyConsoleFixes Год назад
The compressed air on the fan could have did it, I always hold a fan with a screw driver or something to stop it spinning when hitting it with compressed air. The glass fuse should work, it just might be tricky to find a place for it to sit.

@@EasyConsoleFixes Just curious, how were you able to remove the SMD fuse or any techniques? I just managed to attach wires to a fuse and it's maintaining continuity; my plan is to wire that to the board so the removal of the SMD fuse is where I'm at. I'm finding a lot of trouble doing so, looks very simple but I can't do it easily and don't want to force it or heat it too much.

Thanks for the video. I have to replace 3 fuses on a PS1 two (CCP2E) 20s and one 15 for the controller/memory card ports. I bought the (PU-20 board) PS1 7000 model second hand and one of the CCP2E20 fuses is missing replaced with a piece of solder to bridge. I just hope that didn't damage other components on the board.
@EasyConsoleFixes
@EasyConsoleFixes Год назад
Thanks for the comment. I don't see blown fuses on the PS1 boards very much, its nearly always just dead lasers. Had the seller told you the board was missing the CCP2E20 before you purchased the board.
@yanghao8351
@yanghao8351 Год назад
The seller didn't know much about the PS1. They sell lots of second hand stuff ("As is and no returns" on all the items). I don't think they were the first owners. It's a Japanese 7000 model PU-20 but the board is inside a 7501 case. My guess, the fuses blew because it was plugged into 240v outlet instead of a 110v outlet. Or a bad memory card/controller did it. I should get the replacement fuses in the mail this week and I'll let you know how the fix goes. @@EasyConsoleFixes

@@EasyConsoleFixes I replaced the the CCP2E15 and CCP2E20 fuse plus cleaned up the solder bridge made where the other fuse was and put in a CCP2E20 fuse. Now the control port works again plus it can read memory cards! However, I ordered a 240 to 120v step-down converter. I have one already but it's generic 120watts and not sure if it's a good idea to run the PS1 on a step-down with that much power. The one I bought is only running 60w and it's specifically for PS1, Dreamcast and Sega Saturn. Also I want to grease and clean the CD reader because it makes an awful sound. If a re-grease doesn't work I'll buy a new one (as at the time writing this new ones are being made). I'll keep you updated.

@@yanghao8351 Yeah you could be right. 240v into a 110v machine would almost certainly blow some fuses.

hey when I reasmbled a console after cleaning powered it on I had no video I sow that power ribbon is not plugged corectly so I moved it a little but the power was on I got a video and than I droped a video after few tries console not turning on after I plugged correctly all i have a green light all time but no video did I short circuit something?
@EasyConsoleFixes
@EasyConsoleFixes Год назад
I don't think the power button would cause the console to display no video. If you have a green light the console is on, so your issue is something else.

Nice video. Do you know which ribbon cable is responsible for opening the disc tray? I disconnecting the cables for cleaning once, and now my console only has the blue opening light flashing but the disk tray no longer opens. Sorry for my English, Thanks in advance
@EasyConsoleFixes
@EasyConsoleFixes 11 месяцев назад
Have you the disc tray put back together correctly. There is a white plastic piece which slides left and right at the end of the disc tray. Part of this piece should sit into the grove that runs front to back on the underside of the disc tray. It's easy to forget to make sure its lined up when putting the console back together and it will cause the blue light to flash but the tray not to open like you describe.
@rodrigoduarte153
@rodrigoduarte153 11 месяцев назад
I didn't open the disk driver, I just disconnected the cables (before this the disk tray opened normally). But in this process I think I damaged some of these cables, so when I put them back on, the disc tray no longer opens

Have you ever seen this: ps2 fat , when I hit the power bottom, green and blue light turns on , and that’s it… nothing happens, fan doesn’t even spin, and I can’t reset or open de disc ejector! Really don’t know where should I look for problems here
@EasyConsoleFixes
@EasyConsoleFixes Год назад
This is a strange one. It does seem like the console is turning on, I would start by checking the fuses on the board to make sure none have blown. The console is turning on and coming out of standby mode when the red light is on but not turning on fully.

@@EasyConsoleFixes thanks for your replay sr! I've checked the fuses, they are good and there is energy from the power supply... I was really trying to fix it because this ps2 was the last gift my grandpa left to me before he passed, but after so much effort I'm starting to think about use the ps2 ffat case to build a computer inside it! Dont know yet if there are any mobos who could fit inside it, or maybe I'll use those tiny motherboards from androi's tv box... my idea is use it to emulate old consoles, but using the ps2 beautiful case to it!

@@zowkingame1169 That is a nice idea for the case if you can't get the console fixed. I wonder has one of the chips or something failed. If you really wanted to keep the console running you could pick a replacement motherboard from eBay.

What causes these fuses to blow?
@EasyConsoleFixes
@EasyConsoleFixes 6 месяцев назад
Issues with the fan such as a faulty fan or the fan getting blocked etc can cause them to blow, however as these consoles get older I am seeing a number of these fuses blowing without seeing any other cause. Some people think there is an issue with the fuses causing them to blow as they age but I don't know if that's true or not.
@zane.fritts
@zane.fritts Год назад
Having the same issue on 39001 model PS2. I believe it may have to do with the fan wire being mashed in the reassembly after fighting other issues. My board is much different than yours trying to figure out my best course of action I have another PS2 fan but it does not work either on this board.
@EasyConsoleFixes
@EasyConsoleFixes Год назад
I have seen the fan wire get damaged during reassembly, if in the wrong location it can get pinched. You can test the fans with a 9v battery if you want to rule out whether they work or not. Also I have a link in the description which shows the different board revisions, it may help you if you need to find the fan fuse on your board.

@@EasyConsoleFixes well what ive done so far is use a different fan from a parts board. That one only works on the parts board not the current effected board. I removed ps5 from the parts board no more fan activity but I removed it's sauder pad off the chip. I then took ps7 off and moved it to the effected board replacing Its ps5 and I've currently got nothing. Currently out buying a multimeter as this message goes out.

@arie1293 10 месяцев назад
@@schwarzeneggermanoj2634 Generally going higher on fuses isn’t recommended. You could go with a smaller value and the worst that would happen is it’ll blow if the circuit draws more than its rating. Going higher would put other components at risk if the original cause was a short somewhere.

It will work but you wont have the same level of protection if the fault happens again. It's definitely better to use the 1A rather than just bridging the gap with solder or wire or something.
