This video is MVP! Ive had my MX4SIO for like 2 years.. couldn’t get it working the first time so gave up. Stumbled across this video and it worked. Amazing. Even got it working with a SANDISC SD 32gb card working using Rufus exFAT format. Thank you.
I've tested about 80 games over the last few months and there have only been a few (about 4 or 5) that were problematic. For example, the sound in the cutscenes of "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" stutters. But all in all, this is really a great thing. For me, this is the greatest discovery in recent years. Yay, I can definitely recommend it.
Thank you for this tutorial video! I was having so many problems trying to get the HDD method working, but MX4SIO was so much simpler to get up and running!
Great guide, very much appreciated! Just a tip for anyone who is stuck with OPL not seeing their games, but seeing there is a storage media there, and being able to view it in LaunchElf, it could be the model of SD card you are using. I was troubleshooting with a Sandisk 32gb for a solid 2 hours trying and retrying everything, then figured as a last ditch effort id try a different model of card, and sure enough the micron I tried worked first try.
Bit late, but to add, this was somewhat the same here. Sandisk didn't work. Luckily i had a Samsung which worked straight away. Then later read that Sandisk almost never works, if at all. And that's basically what i always use. The samsung was because i got it on an amazing deal so, was lucky to have it and not in use.
Another reason I've recently bought the MX4ISO card, is that when you are running games from the network, you can't play games online. A great tutorial. Now to wait for my shiny new wireless controller.
Just got mine set up. Luckily the MCBoot card I got already had the programs I needed to run from the SD. This is really amazing; my disc drive was going, and being able to dump my discs and run from the Memory Card is a godsend!
Whenever I set MX4SIO under block devices to on, OPL won't save the settings. Doesn't matter if its on manual or auto, if I select MX4SIO to on, it loads endlessly on the "Saving Config" screen... Do you have any idea on how to solve this?
WARNING: Keep an extra FMCB memory card around while performing the FMCB uninstallation part. I didn't have an extra one, uninstalled FMCB and when I went to reinstall it, it said there was "insufficient space" for the install. Long story short, I uninstalled and had no way of reinstalling. So... I lost homebrew access on my PS2 and had to buy another FMCB card.
I am very new to this and very excited by this video! My question is can I do this starting with a regular PS2 slim that hasn't been modified in any way, or would I be missing something maybe from another video? My slim is not HDMI modded and is exactly as you would find it in a sealed box. Would buying the 3 required items and following all that is shown here be all I need?
@@ArchadesGames Thanks for the response and for all the effort you put into your videos. Your one of those heroes of the internet! Ima give this a go I'm planning to run this in a 2007 van for roadrips 👍
I bought an MC2SIO memory card about 2 years ago, and the games that I had running on it for the most part work but obviously there's issues. I also have a PNY micro SD card. I hear that Samsung and/or SanDisk SD cards have better compatibility. I have both a fat model PS2 and a slim model and maybe it's me but I prefer the HDD method because you don't need format that to FAT32. For a short while, I tried playing a game with a flash drive and that's not something I'll do again.
Omg the ps2 modding scene has changed so much since i did it! I remember having to buy agent under fire and all that but due to my mcboot being so old I'm having to redo the entire thing 😭 Got 2 slims and it's the first time.
@@ArchadesGamesalot better, software improved greatly too. I'm sure these SD/PS2 cards didn't exist when I started 🙈 Thank you. For explaining this very simply. Can I just ask what would you advise me to do to update everything ?
Thank you very much for your video. Do you have any recommendations for a portable dvd drive to connect to a laptop? I have ps2 games but no dvd drive on my laptop.
When I try to boot the latest Open PS2 Loader I just get a black screen. It never gets to the menu options. I have tried different SD cards in my MX4SIO. Any ideas?
Games aren't showing up for me on OPL. Also for me it says O for ok and when I save the settings it saves to Mass:/0 instead of MC:/0 even though no usb is inserted.
Can one simply use it to add saves there? I've just bought mine and brought it home thinking I could have some fun by either replaying games I had to delete on my 2 memory cards when this technology wasn't possible
Great guide! thank you helping me get this running. I was curious if there is anyway to leave the USB stick in and get MX4SIO to work off the micro SD card. Micro SD works without issues, but if I plug the USB stick in, it will not read the SD card. Thanks!
To get around this I installed several different versions of OPL. Some work, some don't. Just the reality of the software unfortunately. Grimdommer's versions seem to be the most stable.
Hi. My PS2 slim stuck on black screen when I want to open Free McBoot Configurator, it is not loading. PS2 official 8MB memcard and MX4SIO are inserted
I need some help. When i insert the usb stick into the console, it stays on the fmcboot loading screen but when i take it out it works normally. What could be the problem and how do i make the console able to read my USB? It was formated as shown in the video and has the necessary programs to go with it.
@@ArchadesGames Yes it seemed like that fixed this issue, but another came up after that. When i finish configure my OPL settings, for starters it doesn't save the changes, because when i turn the console back on the settings seem to be reset every time. And second when i got into the game list i just have two empty ''BDM Games'' and ''HDD Games'' directories.
@@ArchadesGamesdo i have to tweak any settings to make it work? When i boot games with the ps2 loader, It says my memory card is full, but it actually isn't, there's a lot of free space 😢
@@ArchadesGamesnevermind... it worked! 😂 For some reason, i can't save while playing 'We Love katamari', but the saving functionality works fine with other games
I'm going to try this out on a ps2 slim, just wondering i know its better to run games through a internal hard drive on the ps2 fat, but i only have a ps2 slim, isn't trying to play games on a memory card would bottleneck it laggy game or something, would it be better on the ps2 usb instead, what are your thoughts which one to run games on memory stick or usb on a ps2 slim?
I tried everything with the latest release 1.2.0 beta 2068 and it didn't work, then I tried the previous 1.2.0 beta 2049 and now everything was fine, games from SD, covers, saving in the right path.
Great video, just a quick question. When you go into the opl settings and use the network update function how do you get that to work. Mine just hangs on a please wait and never loads the updates. I have no network settings done. Not sure what needs to be. Thought it might be like the Wii homebrew loader and just get the data through magic. Thanks
@@Des_Zee yup I plugged it in thought it would hope it connected to whatever it needed to. It never did. Just was waiting for connection. Whatever I just manually change them if have to.
I followed everything you did start to finish. My issue is when i insert the mx4sio into the ps2 slim go into open sp2 loader, input the settings. When i hit save, all it does is stay on the saving screen with the spinning circles in the corrner. Im using a Onn 256gb microsd card from walmart. Any ideas what i could be doing wrong that is causing this issue?
Hello! I put Mk Armageddon premium edition on my SD San Disk format in EXFAT. This game include ultimate mortal kombat 3 inside. If i play just mk Armageddon the games work good but when i try to change to UMK 3 remain stuck at LOADING. The same game i have on usb pen drive in format fat 32 and work with no issue.
@@ArchadesGames mx4SIO is more fast than USB, but in finaly i solved the problems. Before i have fmcb 1.966 but was installed normaly not fmcb setup for EXFAT. i unnistalled old fmcb and then reinstall setup for EXFAT and now work good with mx4sio card in EXFAT. But i see If have an usb memory stick in EXFAT inside fmcb remain stuck at start up.
Nah, I like my 512 wide PS2 games to not be improperly stretched to 640 and my texture details of all games blurred by the PS3 output regardless of resolution or smoothing settings.
@@ArchadesGamesmy hunch is that this has a greater compatibility than the PS2 Classics mounting too... but in all honesty I really could do with researching these more. The compatibilities of MX4SIO vs various HDD setups vs PS3HEN vs PS2 emulation. Is there a clear winner?
Bitfunx is a bad company to support to be clear. They steal designs and products from other creators and not just open source ones. That's why they are usually known as ButtFuks or Buttfunx in the community.
I tried to download all my game configs from network update and I’m getting the error 310: No network connection. I have got my Ethernet cable directly from my router to my PS2 TV…
I uninstalled then reinstalled then exited out and now my free mc boot screens are all gone now and I can’t get them back, any help would be appreciated 🙂
@@ArchadesGames Thanks for the reply, I installed Funtuna and the latest version of OPL directly to my memory card and then I just started the latest version of OPL trough Ulunch Elf just to test and it's working I managed to play some games, but My SD card Is still in FAT32 can I format it to exFAT or do I need to install something else to make it work? Also I have another question after the game boot can I remove do memorycard with Funtuna/OPL or it still needs to be on the PS2
exFAT should work fine if not just go back to FAT32. I believe you can swap the memory card out once the game loads but I haven't ever had reason to try it 😅
Complete newbie here. Is there a way to save games using both Mc slots at the same time? Can you just use the fmcb or mx4sio as a normal memory card while you’re playing games off of them?
Hey man, I am using the bravia TV ps2 and I cannot get the ps2 to recognize the SD card. Is there any fix that you could think of? would really appreciate it! thank you
I downloaded the files in the links, but they weren't zip files. Any suggestions? By the way, I am someone who knows absolutely nothing about what I'm doing, so if you give me an answer, make sure it's dumbed down as much as possible, please! Thanks!
Please help me anyone I’m really confused, i have ps2 75004 from the old days without any modifications. What should i do exactly? What is the initial steps to do before watching this video? Btw My ps2 showed Sumo light every time I turned it on
I have a rather annoying problem. I use 2 slots. slot 1: FMCB 1,966; slot 2: Mx4sio I use OPL 1.1 to run the game. But it cannot find slot1 (mc0) to save the game. Is there any way to fix that error?
@@ArchadesGames "Multi instillation detected! Please uninstall first." Should I just go to "Uninstall MI" ? I just would really like to make sure that I don't mess anything up..
how the heck do i do this WITHOUT the installer? im trying ot set up a 90k, it still loads fmcb even if indirectly but the installer refuses to touch the memory card because its not magic gate compatible which is a problem because the hacks for 90k work better without magic gate
@@ArchadesGames Hey does the setup work exactly like in the video if I have FunTuna installed? Like do I also need to do the step with the FMCBInstaller_EXFAT.elf file to update FMCB or do I have to skip that step because I'm using FunTuna?
@@ArchadesGames Alright thanks so then I just do the steps with the OPNPS2LD File and the BOOT-EXFAT-MX4SIO File or does FunTuna not support EXFAT format at all?
From my own experience, game compatibility issues put this dangerously close to the border of acceptability and it doesn't seem to have seen that much improvement over the past two years. If these things weren't so cheap I'd recommend against them in favor of a hard drive with an adapter for OPL instead.
Can anyone help me? I deleted my freemcboot install and then I went to install the new one and it said not enough space. It needs a MB but only has 564kb...I have no idea what to do.
You need more space on the memory card. Delete saves off the memory card. But you will need a different exploit method to reinstall FMCB once you leave the installer.
@@ArchadesGames Everywhere it says to just buy it, so where did everyone else get theirs that they didn't need to include deleting the other apps first in the instructions?
@@ArchadesGames one more question what do you do with games that’s more then one disc like Xenosaga 3 or star ocean ? Make them separate or make a folder
