As I explained before, anime was a part of media-mix expansion of Umineko. One of the major reason anime was made is for a promotion of Umineko overall, since it wasn't popular before anime was made, since Higurashi was too popular. Ryukishi07 is still looking for a chance to make Chiru anime, but one of the major reason we missed a chance of making 2nd anime season, is because VNEP5&EP6 was quite unpopular comparing with EP1~4, so they missed a chance of making Chiru anime immediately.
Have you ever heard of the term "media-mix project"? In Japan, people are trying to promote the works by expanding them into different mediums, so fans of various field (manga, anime, game, CD drama, novel, VN, etc) to promote those culture in all. The author of Umineko VN wanted Umineko to be media-mixed, so many people can feel the world the Umineko through different medium, and Ryukishi was being super grateful to DEEN too. Ryukishi still wants 2nd season of Umineko in fact.
Hi, since anime sold more than 25,000 copies and made the total profit of 3million USD (since the DVD price of Umineko was very hight), DEEN is praised in Japan. So, DEEN is now making new Higurashi anime series. Chiru anime might come out sometime in future, but it's difficult for several other reasons, such as because it's story is too long, and EP5,6 of the original game didn't sell much.
So, they know that Umineko DVD will not sell in quantity, they sat DVD price higher than other anime DVD and aimed 1000 sales per 1 Umineko DVD. However, DVD sold much more than DEEN expected. Each Umineko DVD gradually sold around 2,000 copies. Because Umineko anime budget was low and the price of DVD was high, they made a nice profit out of it. So, the reputation of Umineko anime by DEEN was very nice and Umineko became popular because of it's anime.
Tokyo. Ryukishi07 has been very upset about weaboo fans of Umineko, since they keep spreading the fake rumors and hate on DEEN, who made the great anime adaptation of Umineko.
I think you are being a bit harsh there, I mean DEEN did a horrible job with the fate series but that didn't stop Ufotable from making fate/zero as incredible as it was, so long as a competent studio that isn't DEEN is making Umineko Chiru then I think Chiru could turn out geat!
Can you tell me the name of the forum that you went across? Additionally, did you point out the purpose of Umineko anime(as a promotion of Umineko itself, and it's DVD sales made a nice profit out of it neverthless it was very unpopular when the anime was made) I also talked to the people who are making Umineko DVD, and Ryukishi was very appreciating the outcome and the profit done by anime.
Why don't you just enjoy Umineko Chiru anime if it comes out? It gives you the different experience from VN. I think you'll watch it anyway if it comes out.
Hi again, sorry for my late reply. First of the all, how would the people outside Japan know the sales of Umineko DVD&Blueray? If DVD do not sell, BD will never come out. Umineko DVD has been still selling because of the new video game series, and I called to the Frontier works and they answered the average sales of DVD is around 2000 copies, and there are also DVD sets that comes with multiple DVDs. Additionally and the most important of the all, the original Umineko VN didn't sell at all.
@immblueversion in that case I need to buy a japanese computer to have it run properly (they need a japanese OS according to witch hunt) which would likely cost even more.
I hope you to spread this true information about Umineko anime. Those fake rumors of "DEEN screwed up Umineko" is a false fact, which is being spread by the original VN worshipers who try to ruin DEEN's reputaion, and this negative campaign is a big loss for Umineko overall.
@immblueversion yeah...when I am struggling in one of the biggest economic reccesions the country has ever had, tens of thousands of people are losing jobs all over the country and prices still rising while pay is falling...lets go ahead and spend £80 for a PS3 game all the way from japan and a Japanese PS3 to let me play a game, I love Umineko and sadly was spoiled by someone who assumed I had played the 8th game I don't love it enough for that.
I partly agree with you opinion, but your opinion of Umineko anime not selling well is totally a wrong information that is being spread upon western fans of Umineko. When Umineko anime was finished, only EP4 was coming out (when they started making anime, only EP2 was released), and Umineko was not popular at all when the anime was made. For example, Umineko VN only sold less than 10,000 copies before the anime was made, and it was like 1/80 sales of Higurashi VN.
Umineko Chiru is too lengthy and complicated without the precision in plot. There are too many better VN in Japan, such as 428, Kamaitachi, etc. We definitely need Chiru anime to finish Umineko. Umineko manga is even better than original VN.
@immblueversion allow me o re-do this comment to one that actually makes sense. I tried changing my computers language but it just makes a load of my things on my computer into japanese which I can't read, to play the games I would need to be able to understand at least basic Japanese to use the game which I do plan to do at some point, but it won't be for a year or two so I would like to ahve some kind of anime to watch inbetween that (even though I am kind of spoiled :P)
DEEN is now making new Higurashi Outbreak series too. If DEEN screw up Umineko, they will never allow DEEN to make new Higurashi. SO, this is another proof of your idea "DEEN screw up Umineko anime" is a total bullshit.
