I love how you explain exactly what you’re doing at all times down to even pressing the X button. You explain things in a quick and concise way too so it doesn’t slow things down. That’s honestly really rare with these types of videos. You’re the man!
I've procrastinated from doing this thinking it would be a complete and total headache but you made it easy. I ran into an issue with no download and had to make sure javascript was on. It's now downloading the installer needed. Thank you Blaine. 👍
IMPORTANT: Please update your PS3 Homebrew BEFORE updating HFW and HEN, in that order. Older versions of Webman will cause HEN 3.2.0 to freeze on initialization and lock users out of all their Homebrew functions. I had to wipe my drive to fix this without an ERK for my console/drive. Holding R2 button while starting HEN may allow users to update outdated WebMan, (this disables plugins), hope this helps!
You are a lifesaver. I’ve been waiting and praying for this video. Bless you for helping the gaming/modding community. Your videos are the sole reason I started modifying my consoles
Thanks for the guide! A tip that I ran into in the comments mentioned that if your ps3 is picking up the usb but is saying “no media found”, just put your ps3 into “safe mode” then continue to follow the steps shown in the video. Worked like a charm!
@@blainelocklair i really need your help i did everything you said but when i try to enable it it freezes everytime. And its starting to get on my nerves.Plz i really need help
First video I've ever seen of yours but I just want to say I love how straight forward and to the point your video is where you get the perfect balance of explaining things allot of people watching probably don't need to hear in enough detail anybody can figure what you're talking about but you don't spend so long on it as to talk to people like they're dumb. Regardless If you're new to this kind of thing and never done it or are experienced and just need the meat and potatoes of the videos you're very respectful to the time of both parties. I've seen several content creators that would have stretched this video to 20 minutes plus so wanted to highlight that point. Thank you!
For those having trouble installing the update on the Main menu ( Use boot menu ) Turn off your ps3 then hold power button until the console turns itself off Let go off the power button and hold it again until a menu pops up When it pops up connect your controller directly to PS3 using cable then press ps button Navigate to update system and until you see a menu which says connect the usb which contains the update whatever and press start and select at the same time Hope this helps
@DJ0520 Did you rename the folders ? 1.PS3 2.UPDATE also make sure there is not a single thing in the update folder other than the update pup file Sometimes there are some kind of documents inside that folder when you download the update
I recently jailbroke my friend's ps3 fully and had to use a smaller youtuber's guide and while it was difficult I managed to get thru it. This video is PERFECT for my ps3 tho since it's a newer version slim and I need hen thanks man!
For people finding it says no applicable file or whatever but the usb is being picked up in photos, here's how to fix it because nobody is saying it properly. You do need to load it in safe mode if this happens, however nobody has said correctly how to do this. First turn off the console. Then press and hold the power button. It will turn on, and keep holding the button. It will beep after a few seconds, keep holding the button. Keep holding until it powers off again. Then press and hold the power button again. This time there will be 2 quick beeps after a few seconds. When you hear this stop holding the button and it will have booted in safe mode Then just follow the instructions on the playstation screen and it should all work. Nobody else said you have to do the power button TWICE not once
Thanks Blaine This Tutorial of yours still working as of 2024 and helpful , I just copy your Steps in this Video and There are no Problems When I install the Hen mod.
If you already have an older version of HFW and HEN, by updating both (this video) will simply update those two, everything else you previously had installed (games, emulators, etc...), will still work fine.
Are you sure about this?... like if i've already hacked my console with the older version of HFW and HEN which is 4.89 can i just follow this video and update straight up without needing to format and officially update my system first
everything worked out perfectly! Thank you Blaine! I read the comments when many fail to install! I recommend that you watch the video carefully! make sure the usb flash drive is FAT32
*For anyone with the same troubles* 9:14 when installing HEN, it says "HEN Failure! Restart PS3 and retry!" So do what it says, and simply reatart the PS3, and try again. Then it works.
The one thing should be noted at the beginning of video - if in the start of this all you get the text ''no applicable update was found'' while trying to install HFW update from USB flash within PS3 normal mode, you must boot into RECOVERY MODE and install the update from there (bottom menu). And then when install done, install the same HFW update again from within PS3 normal mode. ONLY THEN you can move to installing HEN.
@@gamermaskguy I had same issue at first. Than I made sure that ONLY 1 controller (no usb hub in betweet PS3 console and controller itself) is plugged in left usb port, and USB drive is plugged in right usb port. And only then starting procedure to boot into recovery mode. Also, make sure the usb drive is fat32 mbr.
@@olivrront No, use cable connection only. Recovery mode means all ''extras'' are turned off, which I assume also means no wireless connection. And even if wireless controller works, still first try cable connection before anything else.
Recovery mode needed for me to install from usb. Completed as per the video, thank you Blaine. Great video tutorial! Cant wait to watch the next mumtiman vid!
thanks man i installed some fricking package because i had hen 4.89 and my system update 4.89 and that package made my whole ps3 to fricking not work since i didnt have the newest version of the ps3 this was the first video that popped up so i tried it and it actually worked man thank you so much also the games that i had in it were there so if you wanna update your ps3 to a newer version i think your games on your hardrive wont be deleted and so you can have fun playing again. Again thanks man for making this video and also i checked out your other video on how to install multiman and that also worked so tysm man i really appreciate it new sub :)
Time to try this i literally lost everything in a house fire last week slowly getting back on our feet now i can at least replace some of my retro games this way
The most easiest tutorial ever thank you everyone else who shown how to do it makes it so long and complicated and not clear and their methods never worked for me you’re the only one who works for me👍🏻
@@blainelocklair had to do the 2nd update via safe mode. Just seen the comment below. It worked like a dream. Was worth the wait. Your explanation is the best.! ❤️
For anyone having problem with this step 4:22, not detecting your usb drive, like me, what I did was to boot in safe mode. Turn off your ps3, then boot it up but keep the power button pressed until you hear three (3) beeps like this: beep ... beep ... beep ... It turns off. Then repeat again holding the power button until you hear three (3) beeps again like this: beep ... bepp ... beep beep. Boom, you're in safe mode, head to update system (somewhat like that) and follow the instructions.
best video tutorial I've ever seen. Not one thing wrong and everything explained clearly without having to watch another video. New fan. New Sub. great work.
I gotta say I am a high star general of being techno lame if it's even possible to put it like that, but with videos like this? Man I can't say how much I thank you for this tutorial, thanks to you my PS3 is the main console home again, PS4 can rest for a while. You have a new subscriber !
the only step that i was unable to complete was to install the update a second time. maybe because my previous firmware was already custom "CFW 4.89.3 Evilnat Cobra 8.4 [PEX] [CEX] " Thanks for this tutorial!
Thanks man your a life saver all the other jailbreak videos said my PS3 slim was not jailbreakable but thanks to you I can now do Gran Turismo 5 Master Mod and Gran Turismo 6 Spec-II mod.
Finally decided to give this a try and ran into a problem where my USB (formatted in fat32) was recognized by the PS3 but I could not download the update from the xmb. If anyone runes into this problem download the update from safe mode. To put the PS3 into safe mode power the system down and hold the power button. It will give a couple single beeps and then power off. Hold the power button again until you hear two quick beeps, then release the power button and you should be in safe mode. Plug your USB into the right most USB port on the PS3 and plug a controller into the leftmost USB port. Scroll down to "System Update" and press X. Simply wait and follow the rest of the video. Hope this helps anyone else.
Guys if you are getting a message when you click update from usb that says "No applicable data" 1. double check its in FAT32 format then if it is what i found worked was go into safe mode by turning off ps3 then holding button down for about 20 seconds until u hear 3 beeps then it should appear with a little red dot and repeat the process again hold the button down and instead on the third beep being one beep its a double beep and now youre in safe mode now u just have to install system software and repeat the process again to do it a second time and carry the steps on there. if that all made sense
If you're having trouble with your PS3 not recognizing your USB stick aka "No applicable update data was found" try booting in safe mode. Worked for me at least.
Windows absolutely does (and always has) format FAT32; the caveat is that it's done via the command line (CMD or PowerShell). FAT32 Format is simply just a GUI for the command line.
Ohmigosh thank you so much for this. It was so freaking easy to follow! On my way to get Multiman on this baby and finally play those translated PS2 games I've been missing out on!
im happy i just jailbreaked my ps3 with this and my friend asked me if i could jailbreak his so i did it with your other method where you have to dump the nor or nand (something like that) and i also got your free copy of ravens core. cant wait to play it.
Make sure to have put the USB stick on the right port so the PS3 reads it as "usb_0000" instead of "usb_0001". The reason why it has to be the right port is because it's a developer setting made specifically for testing versions, that's why it is even possible to Jailbreak it.
If your PS3 doesn't detect your HFW data on your flash drive at first, try restarting it in recovery mode and download there. It did the trick for me. Great tutorial from this guy. 👍
Whenever I try to update my system software via storage media I get the same message of "No applicable update data was found." I tried using formatting my USB using different applications but I cannot seem to get it to work. Did anybody face the same issue? If so do you have a solution?
This is a great tutorial!!! I had no issues whatsoever! Thank you soooo much! I will definately subscribe and be sure to check out your next videos! Thanks again!
What is the difference between this and the jailbreak 4.9 video recently released? Is this just another method? Or do you recommend we do this after or in place of the jailbreak 4.9 video?
Hi blaine, I'm a huge fan of yours, i need some help here, i messed up my ps3 superslim hfw and had to update to 4.90 in order to log in to my psn account, also happened to reset the system with erasing all hfw and my games, now i cannot get this to jailbreak, i followed this video and inserted the usb to the ps3 and tried to install hen but the system says there's no firmware to install, can you please help me? Thanks,
Hey, I'm having the same issue as you, I erased all my hfw so I could update my playstation, and I wanted to re mod it, but when I the button to search for an update, it says no applicable data. Did you ever find a fix for this?
Hi Blaine. Thanks for your tutorial, this is my first time trying such a thing so plz help me as much ... I followed your steps, but while trying to system update via storage device its tells me no update storage found. plz help...
Quick question Blaine, if you have 4.89 HEN on your PS3, will you have to delete that first and then get 4.90, or don't delete 4.89? Will it just update or will I have to delete the older version?
Sir, thank you for this! I thought I lost College Football Revamped after updating my PS3, but watching this video helped me to get it back. Definitely worth a thumbs up!
@@saichandra2572 I figured it out, put it in safe mode and press the update option in safe mode with the USB still in it. Should work if u still need help
Got to the point where I relaunched the browser and redownloaded the HEN installer (about 9:00 into the video) and it seemed successful but it's stuck on "Installing HEN..." It's been about an hour now and no change. Did anyone else's install do this? Is it suppose to take this long? Update: I exited out and tried again and the same thing happened. On my third attempt I cleared everything out of the browser again like we did earlier in the process. That worked and only 5 seconds or so later the browser closed and the other download started.
At the 4:20 mark, updating via storage media on the PS3 - I'm getting nothing there when it scans. My flashdrive was less than 32 gigs so I didn't do that part, but copied the extracted the PS3 folder to the drive and obviously plugged it in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@@JacksonandKade i just fixed it, i had a 8Gb USB Plate, i tried everything but nothing worked. Then i simply used another usb plate and this worked. Its installing rn. so hyypeeeddddd
