(PS4 Phar Lap) Some Good Online Racing

It is extremely disappointing that they chose to barely make either game fully, but I think the order was the other way around: this game was released first.

Phar lap came first if you're gonna call one a lazy reskin that would be rival stars

Yeah need a melbourne cup challenge 2 but with the breeding and training from these games, similar stuff and story, would be the best game! Gameplay more fun and win more, horses even on the new games but! Should go back and play Melbourne cup challenge man/girl.

@@Jaw94 I’m sure we would all enjoy it if they made more horse racing games so we can all play them, especially sequels to games that have already proven themselves. Game developers have a hard time balancing graphics, accessibility, and depth of gameplay, so gamers often wind up with poppy, fun horse games that are too shallow, or overburdened, complex games that don’t look as good or play as easily. It might be that other sports just have way more traction in the gaming community, or it might be that it’s just so tough to animate/work digitally with horse content. Either way, it’s good to be optimistic about where the industry is going; we might see some real focus on horse games un the future! Maybe steer clear of “man/girl” though; not the most inclusive choice of words.

Can’t remember if it’s at level 20, I think you can breed horses sooner than that in this game. And you can create a custom horse anytime I believe, it’s a separate menu, and then purchase it in-game. The custom horses cannot be used for breeding, and none of your horses/gameplay from the story carry over to the online game mode. :)

Yep. G1 Jockey has all the detail and depth that this game doesn’t even attempt to imply exists. The good graphics are enjoyable, but there’s so much less to do.

Melbourne cup challenge gameplay is better! Stupid sprint always and no whipping thingy, no energy unless in the green spots 🤦‍♂️. Can’t win regardless and hard to win feom back, middle or even front at end of race if not in position with heaps of bars! Also unrealistic of spawning foals in new games! 9 months Melbourne cup challenge, realistic does suck no option to fast track that!

@@Jaw94 Played Melbourne Cup Challenge/Frankie Dettori Racing a long time ago; don’t remember it being significantly better than this game, and they’re pretty comparable in style. This game’s green bar/running position zone isn’t wonderful or anything, but once you’ve got good enough horses they just travel faster than everything else and so the bar is no problem. Buying Phar Lap in-game and using him as a foundation sire is probably necessary to get your horse stats where you want them to be. I prefer no whips in games and in real life; horses (and all other animals) are not at their best when in pain, and whips are garbage.

@@Jaw94 the problem about melbourne cup game is; even though your horse is way better than its rivals and without pushing it and you can create a huge gap in front of them; you still lose your stamina during the race. That's the only thing I hate. I mean I should always stick to the gameplay's logic. You can not let go your horse. Races are always is run according to AI with similar paces.

There are only a few tricks to this game, and sometimes a race just can’t be won if you don’t have a good enough horse. Getting Phar Lap in your stable will yield offspring with better stats. 224 seems to be the highest stat you can get. While racing, it can be more efficient to let your stamina bar almost fill but never all the way, continuously using up the first two segments so that you are travelling at a competitive pace and waste no stamina. The game wants you to press the sprint button at a certain pace to generate the most propulsion forward; however, in the homestretch, pacing your sprint button presses so that your speed is maintained is more efficient than pressing the button at the rate the game suggests. Keeping an eye on the speed meter helps. In the last two hundred metres (final furlong), the cap on that speed meter increases and your horse can reach a higher top speed, so having stamina to use up right then is great. AI jockeys will always move off the rail around the turns and bends, so you can always take the shortest route and they’ll get out of your way. Hope the game gets more fun for you soon!

Unfortunately, that’s the sound made by the game when the player is staying in the designated green area (the horse’s preferred running position). Unless there’s another sound…
