Some clarity and additional info: - This is not a sponsored video. - These fans will allow you to optimise the airflow of the PS5 - which is particularly important if it is stored in a cabinet. - It is possible to use these fans without mounting them, as they include rubber feet as shown.
@@TheNextUpgrade Im dealing with a closed door cabinet situation.(Wifes rules, dont ask) what are your thoughts on this> * cutting a rectangle in the back of the cabinet, push the Ps5 backing itself to the rectangle so the Ps5 exhausts out the back. I see that you are pulling the air out of the cabinet but what if one fan was pushing and the other was pulling? Im just not sure if pulling the air out with both fans are the most efficient way(with a closed door situation). HVAC systems dont work that way so im assuming there is a ventilation method that would be more efficent than the other in a closed cabinet situation.
@@jordanent8279 I'm in no way an expert in this area and I'm assuming that you mean a small rectangle but I've read that people remove the entire back part of the cabinet of where the console is. Also it looks like you said front is closed off (not ideal). I know you said wife's rules but maybe bring up a wall mount intoconsideration. Best of luck
I love how in the description of the video you give the links for different countries, timings, your equipment this really shows how much effort you put into this video which is fantastic. I have liked commented and subscribed.
Awesome video! I ordered the same exact fans and then came across your video. I was going to just drill multiple holes and mount the fan on top of them using double sided tape but this is so much better and cleaner. I got a new TV stand but sadly there’s not enough room to put my PS5 on top. It gets so hot in the cabinet and I don’t want it to overheat, can’t wait to set everything up! 💯
It is worth it to do the exhaust fans, also if you don’t have those right now and you have a regular oscillating fan or maybe even a small one just point it at the console.
Awesome tip. I did exactly just this. Only difference is that instead of plugging the fan's usb at the back of the ps5, I have it plugged in a usb powered adapter.
@@Tectosaurus yeah, that's fine too. However, since the PS5 really has no toggle switch for on or off, I got myself a two-socket wall plug with a transparent switch. This is where I plugged my PS5 and the USB adapter for the fans. This way the PS5 won't automatically turn on even if the controller is accidentally pressed... I put the two-socket switch on the left of my PS5 sitting horizontally inside the shelf. Plus I want the fan to run longer to rid of some lingering hot air...and also use it when other consoles are turned on
This is a long term preventative measure. The hot PS5 memory shouldn't defect over weeks of use, but perhaps years (or months..? No one knows for sure) if you are using it in hot cramped environments like an enclosed cabinet.
@@packergeek10 or just do like me when I know I'm going to play for a few hours I take it out of the cabinet and let it breathe. If you keep it in the cabinet, the hot air from the exhaust will get sucked back in and you won't be cooling the hot components properly.
@@bcd398 Why do that when I can spend 15 dollars. I already have a hole in my cabinet that big. I don't want to open my cabinet and leave doors open or take the PS5 out. This is a great solution.
You could have put one fan facing in and one out. That way you push cold air in and the hot air out. Causing better airflow behind it. I would love to see a test to see what way would create a better temperature drop in the Playstation.
I have same set up at my house. Only difference is I have one fan blowing fresh air in and one adjacent to it approx 8” to the right and it is blowing out hot air as your showing here. I find it’s just as important to provide cool air to the device while it’s in operation as it is to expel hot air from the unit. So far so good. Also I used a cheap 4port usb hub to power both on from one USB port on the back of ps5 rather than using both as I have a 8tb external hdd for ps4 games.
I have these fans as well. They are great but if I'm not mistaken you cant adjust the fan speed unless it is plug in a block and plugged in a wall. USB power only runs it at one speed.
I'm honestly getting small fans for my gaming desk so when I get my PS5 if I do have it on for long periods I can turn my fan on and keep it cooler like I did my PS4
I had this idea and it's great to see it done properly! So thanks for this video and especially the links. Just wondering... if these fans would be sufficient to work with the PS5 in a completely sealed enclosure? Or maybe 3 or 4 of these? Really hope something works for my setup.
Yes xmas day install with fans already cooling the projector and receiver... PS5 installed in a secure wire rack so air flow all around it, but it still complained of overheating. If it does this on a cool winter day, I'm wondering what summer will bring!
This worked well for me. Had my PS5 for 2 weeks in a cabinet and it would get so hot that I got an overheating error message. After installing this my PS5 remained pretty cool after hours of gaming. However, screwing in these fans to my cabinet was a bitch.
I had a very similar setup with my old OG PS4 but I just used a PC power supply & fans that would have been thrown away, used a paperclip to create a loop for the PSU and attached the fans to the back of the cabinet.
Awesome video just picked up a ps5 and same boat with having it stuck in a cabinet as my 85” tv takes too much room going to try your fans ran a laptop fan on the PS4 before seemed to work but with the ps5 being horizontal have been running into problems I’ll let you know how it makes out ty again
You should reverse the airflow of the fans, you're blowing the hot air from the ps5 exhaust to the front of the ps5 which is it's air intakes. If you reverse the airflow the hot air leaves the cabinet asap and the low pressure will pull fresh air from the from of the cabinet.
Do what i did, i brought a small glass tv stand with just one shelf underneath and placed to the left hand side to my tv which is already monted on a trak racer stand. I placed my digital ps5 on a horizontal cooling stand made by oivi on the top shelf and my disc version ps5 again on a horizontal cooling stand on the 2nd shelf theres pleanty of open space around both consoles and i can if i wish to place an individual fan facing towards the air intake fins say in the summer ?? that way i will have no issues with overheating ??
i too this day cant understand how they bring out consoles with 1 fan just make be console a bit bigger and give it proper cooling imagine ur PC had 1 fan xD
Yes I trust your opinion as not an engineer. The airflow needed is the airflow needed, if one fan can do it, why would you have 2? PCs need more fans because they are, larger, with specialized components all over the place with no guarantee that they are going to line up with whatever it needs in whatever case you put it in. Each if these components thus need their own cooling system. Consoles are different, designed to take advantage of the single fan to meet all the cooling needs of all of the components of the system. If PCs were all built the same with the same components, they could do the same. The whole reason this video exists is because some people are ignorant enough to want to put their PS5 in a closed cabinet. Putting your PC in a cabinet will cause the same problem. They both need to be, as all PCs and consoles have since the dawn of time, place in a location that allows airflow unobstructed and the ambient temps are always normal room temp. Putting them in a cabinet violates both of those.
The fans pull the hot air away from the console. These fans are made for exhaust, not intake although you can flip them around. The direction of the logo is where the air is going. Making it so that the air blows air into the console’s exhaust will make things worse by blowing the hot air back into it. The goal is to push the hot air away out of the cabinet.
I have these exact fans, only they are the bigger versions, like the 120mm size..will this work even if I don't have my PS5 inside a cabinet? I mean, like is there a way I can place the fans I have around the PS5 that will help pull the warm air away from the PS5 even when it's in the open?
Nope. You’re pushing hot air back into the console. Get a dbrand DarkPlates (vents in cover) That ps5 brings IN air/cool air into console and heat exhaust out the rear
People! Just make sure your PS5 (old or new) is well ventilated and maybe place a USB cooling fan to: the front or the top of the PS5. I even drilled tiny little holes to the white plastic of my PS5 for more ventilation due especially for long gaming sessions. 🙃 😁🤤
I have this odd question though. My cat often get himself into the cabinet somehow. He loves to hide there behind the PS5. Is there any fan that is kinda cat-safe? Thanks for your reply!
They do in some situations. Plenty of people are getting overheating in standard setups that worked for the ps4 or even the series x. Its also unreasonably bad design they overheat in more then 30 degrees ambient temp as 95% of the year in Australia is above that.
I work in enterprise IT, I'm very familiar with how temps, ventilation, and cooling practices work. My PS5 still overheats despite the fact that it's not obstructed, in 75f ambient, in the open, on its side or upright, with stock or aftermarket plates, and with a high CFM fan pointing directly at it. Can you run that by me one more time about how they don't overheat with proper ventilation?
I was thinking about doing this for my Xbox one s,however the main fan is at the top of the console and I don't know if putting the fans at the back of the cabinet would be as efficient as yours is and if not is there any other ways?
Yeah, it's in a tv unit like yours. I was really worried about the heat being pumped out the back. Mine is a oak unit so cut a 120mm hole and placed a single 120mm fan in to draw heat away, just plugged into the USB on the back of the ps5, made a massive difference to the heat in the unit. I've had many extended sessions (51 hrs into Ass Creed, completed Days Gone) without issue. I'd advise this mod for anyone placing their ps5 in a unit. Merry Christmas mate, hope it's a good one :)
Would I get the same results if I installed the fan off to the side? My credenza sits about an inch from the wall. I worry that wouldn't be enough room to exhaust the heat. What would the minimum clearance from the wall need to be if I were to install on the backside?
My PS5 has been experiencing overheating issues despite being in a open area(video on my channel) and I was wondering if these fans would help this issue.
@the next upgrade also the back of the console is only slightly warm around the back of the PlayStation. It only happens when I play ps5 exclusive/upgraded games too. I played rainbow six siege for 4 hours straight today. The fan would only turn on at certain times and it would be for a second and not loud at all.
I did something like this in my cabinet. I installed a single fan from an old computer. I spliced the wires to an AC adapter which is plugged into a wireless plug that I can turn on and off, so it ventilate all of my consoles and components. Made a world of difference.
I recently moved my PS5 into a closed cabinet under the tv when we bought a new stand, I instantly noticed that it got hot, this is a great fix for that, nice video
As great as this is, is there an alternative way, that doesn't involve drilling holes into a stand? Perhaps finding some way to stick it to the cabinet or something around that idea?
I have a similar set up, but mine is vertical standing up with bigger fans i had to modify them a bit and not usb powered they are outlet powered. It's the same brand, these fans are built to last so I'd highly recommend them. I just use a wifi outlet with Google home to switch on or off simple set up. Performance modes makes the console toasty.
You've probably figured it out by now but I just posted this elsewhere: I didn't cut holes for them in the back of the tv stand but what I do is place both at the back of the cubby. The one on the right is faced at a 30-45 deg angle to blow air towards the back and to the left behind the console, which also draws cool air in by the intake on the right. The one on the left blows air out of the front of the cabinet to create a circulation. Since the PS4 and PS5's air intake is on the right side (when facing the console) it draws in cool air. Especially the PS5 since it draws air in mostly on that front right corner more than the right side like the PS4 did. Never had an issue with the PS5 and heat, only ever hear when the disc spins up. I do need to buy their thermal sensor instead of having to manually turn them on and off each time I play.
Having two fans as exhaust (assuming the door is open enough) would move more air. If you set up just exhaust fans, then you need a vent big enough to allow that air to be pulled in from somewhere. Having an intake fan and and exhaust fan isn't really necessary or helpful, the only things I can think of where they would benefit are: -very large cabinet, the intake will help/make sure the air is all coming in from the place you want it to. With a large cabinet, passive draw (exhaust only) means more negative pressure loss by the time you get to the vent (larger air volume "absorbs the pressure as it's distributed evenly across the cabinet) and thus the flow at the intake is decreased. Also, as your cabinet is likely not airtight, that pressure is going to increasingly bleed out through small gaps throughout. So this means either more/larger EFs for the passive draw, or add fans to the intake. So it's not clear which is better, it really depends on specifics and ultimately testing both yourself in your own setup would give you the answer.
my PS5 is simply on my desk next to my monitor standing vertically. I heard that a lot of the cooling stands on amazon are scams or blow air the wrong way. because my PS5 is not in a drawer or cabinet and out in the open standing, which fans would work in my situation and also how to position the fans. Could I use the same USB duo fans in this vid or what can I do?
My PS5 sits upright on a separate stand about 10 inches away from the wall behind it and nothing else around it so it is well ventilated all around, however this is a GREAT solution for those who have the PS5 or any device inside a cabinet. I am familiar with AC Infinity, they make cooling system for Audio Receivers and are the leaders in cooling systems. I have the Ac Infinity Aircom T10 sitting on top of my Yamaha receiver, I was even thinking of a way to have one attached somehow directly on the PS5 itself. Anyways glad your thinking outside of the box and giving these tutorials how you accomplished it.
Having both consoles I can say without a doubt the Ps5 is one hot machine and the series X barely get warm. Both are in an open and vented cinema rack. I also added AC Infinity fans to help. Ac Infinity also make great AVR and power amp fans that you can adjust everything.
Me neither, the only and very annoying issue with my PS5 is that it won't recognize the Demon's Souls disc after I turn it off, I have to eject and put the disc back in every time.
@@a_storm_inside7026 Nothing for me. The last update actually made my PS5 quieter too. The disc drive would spin up ever hour or two and go full rev, it was loud. Doesn't really do that anymore after the update tho.
Folks this is not needed . The ps5 has no overheating problems . I get it you’re trying to build yuh channel but again overheating in the ps5 is nonexistent. So this product is a waste of time .
Sorry buddy, it is a problem, at least for me and thats why I'm here researching. I got my ps5 two weeks ago. Played for 10 minutes today and got the same warning message telling me my ps5 was too hot and shut it down. It was pretty warm to the touch. I shut it down, waited 30 minutes and began playing again. Less than 2 minutes later the warning popped up again. I am extremely unhappy right now. Oh, and the console is standing up with no obstructions.
This was brilliant! I have the same cabinet type of space for my PS5 and have been concerned with the temps that it creates while sitting in there. Thank you for this video, I just ordered the fans, and will install ASAP.
Do you have a laser infrared thermometer to compare the PS5 temperature with the fans on/off? I have a similar storage situation. My PS5 is currently sitting vertically on top of my cabinet, but I like the clean look of it inside the cabinet.
I dont have an infra-red thermometer unfortunately but I should get one. Anecdotally I can definitely feel warm air blowing out from the back of the unit when its in use so its doing something positive.
I’ll be ordering 2 sets of fans.. 1 pair to push air and another to pull out. Been thinking of doing this and you’re the first person I saw actually do it! Nice job!!
Great video and idea!! I noticed that they sell the single 80mm fan as well. Is one fan enough since it's just helping with the exhaust? Is it totally safe to use one of the rear PS5 USB ports as power source? Thanks
One fan would certainly be better than none if your airflow situation is not ideal The USB ports on the rear should have no problems meeting the power requirements for these fans
I second this recommendation. I actually have a few AC Infinity fans. I'm using some for my external hard drives, one is set atop my Xbox One S. I actually have a four fan connection for my Optoma HD39HDR projector with runs hot fast, but since getting this four fan connect device; it cools it down tremendously. I have one for my Modem and router. I also have two coming for my PS5 too. In total I have about 15 of these fans. Life savers.
Hi, just need some clarification. Are the fans blowing cool air onto the back of the console, and if not, will this help stop the console from overheating ?
If you want to cut holes, both draw air to the back. If you don't want to cut holes, the one on the right draws air in by the intake, one on the left pushes air out the front.
For those that do not want to cut holes, I have used these fans on my ps4 pro and 1x for years, and then with the ps5 since launch. I didn't cut holes for them in the back of the tv stand but what I do is place both at the back of the cubby. That said, they do make ones with faceplates if you want to cut out the back of your tv stand/cabinet, which I may do for my upgraded htpc since it runs pretty hot now with the 6700xt I put in it. Debating on buying a few more of those plate types for the PS5 cubby and just exhaust out of the back. I just hate cutting holes in that thick cardboard stuff they use for the backing.
I think either way is great. I mean wanting to cut the holes and make it part of the cabinet is a cool way to customize it. And if you have the skill and don't mind the holes. Why not? It came out nice my dude.
@@astroadventures3559 I have since made cutouts, purchased mounted exhaust fans and thermal sensors to auto cut on/off, and power them separately to avoid powering off of the consoles themselves. It is much cleaner and I am glad I did it, but my old config worked well enough for those that have a stand/cabinet they do not want to cut.
I ordered a set of fans for my PS5 and a set for my XBOX. Question - what do you think about making the 'bottom' fan an in fan and the 'top' fan an out fan? I am going to order the 80mm saw blade too but I sure hate to cut up the back of the cabinet.
Pretty sure you don't want to plug the fans into the Playstation, the extra heat generated by the ps having to power the fans will more than the fans can compensate for . Plug the fans into a wall outlet .
Thank you for this excellent informative video, I have ordered the S7, will install them soon in a similar cabinet like yours. But will place them on the inside.
