PS90/P90 Full Auto Trigger Group, and how it works.

This is a video of how the full auto trigger group works on a PS90/P90. I am a licensed 07/SOT FFL. Which is the ONLY way you can legally do this. If you don't have the licensing, don't do it. Unless you'd like 3 square meals a day in a concrete cell, and a boyfriend named Bubba...

Someday I'll be able to figure out how this kind of stuff works. My rationale is that if I work hard and keep my nose clean, I can get the FFL/SOT at some point in the future so I'll be able to have fun toys like this. I've been able to try automatics at a local range that has rentals, and it's pretty cool.
@hangassan
@hangassan 7 лет назад
One has to allow for extended trigger travel as well...I looked at, played with, ad totally disassembled my PS90, as I do with all my new toys...and figured out how FN designed this little beast to be a dual function trigger/selector, once the safety has been modified to clear the trigger for greater rearward travel...nice video...thanks for posting...
@Wrenchmonkey1
@Wrenchmonkey1 7 лет назад
Hangassan that is just a matter of removing material from the safety selector so that it can move to the 3rd position. the video isn't a tutorial on conversions, but rather an academic explanation of how the pack itself functions.

To be honest, for the expense, time, and effort, of having an FFL/SOT, you're probably dollars ahead to just rent them at a local range, unless you're planning on running a range of your own, with rentals.

I appreciate your video and information. Let me state clearly, I'm 100% capitalist! I've came across a few ps90s recently with various sn's from 43xxx to 103xxx. I'm trying to obtain the desired trigger pack for resale value years later, no other reason than its worth a lot more and during a rush, you can charge premium. With that said, what serial number would be an expected cut off? I've found forums with this info but cannot see the old pictures so I'm not sure how to tell which is which. There also is a debate on colors in said packs. Any info that would help narrow down my search?

I dream of a day when "shall not be infringed" is taken literally and we don't have to worry about petty shit like this. I mean really... if you've paid for something, its yours right? free to do whatever you want with it so long as you aren't hurting anyone? seems like that goes for everything *except* firearms. But until that day arrives we just have to play their games, pay our taxes and say "thank you sir"

Unfortunately, it's not true of many things at all anymore, including firearms. You can't even remodel your own home without approval and paying for a "permit" anymore. You have to drive the sear pin out. The pin is notched and retained by a piece of spring wire through the base of the disconnector. Kinda tricky. I learned the hard way, and cracked the disconnector. Not a big deal, because I was doing some plastic welding anyway. ;)

Interesting. If I'm understanding this correctly, no changes need to be made to the receiver. If an 02 SOT goes out of business and decides to destroy this machine gun, can the trigger pack just be removed or would the entire gun, receiver and all, be subject to destruction?
@robertsjames2002
@robertsjames2002 4 года назад
2 year old answer: According to ATF definitions, only the offending modified parts would need to be destroyed; in this case, the modified sear (added material). Everything else is not a "machine gun" by definition, only the part that enables full auto fire. Even a modified safety selector (allowing you to pull the trigger farther back by switching to the third (full auto) position) and modified hammer wouldn't qualify because they are not what makes it full auto.

Thank you for mentioning that you need the proper class 3 licensing to everyone. Giving us law abiding firearm owners a good rep by stating that. Most of the time the conversion isn't worth it unless you have tons of money for unlimited ammo. I love firing full auto but it comes with a heavy price tag especially the FN P90. Haha I've seen some pretty sketchy vids that encourage modifying certain firearms, but they are messing up the firearms completely. Usually turning the firearm into a runaway full auto or bump fire full auto. Just emptying the entire mag isnt full auto if you can't control it. I've always been interested to know just in case of a zombie apocalypse or a foreign invasion if it could be done to my ps90. Are all those parts composite or are they metal? I can't tell in the video and I've never broken down my PS90 since I'm waiting for my transfer to go through. Just bought it 3 days ago and I'm very stoked to finally get it after seeing it on Stargate SG1 many years ago. Great video! I look forward to seeing more. I've always been interested in the difference between full auto select fire and semi auto fireman's I own. Thanks again.
@Wrenchmonkey1
@Wrenchmonkey1 2 года назад
The FCG parts in question are all polymer parts. I agree with you, full auto is really more of a novelty than anything. This thing will dumb 50 rounds in about 3.5 seconds. Fun to do once or twice, but ammo can be hard to find, and runs $35-$40 a box when you can find it, so the novelty starts wearing off pretty quickly at those prices.

buellfuel2001 It is a safety. Basically a drop safety.
@buellfuel2001
@buellfuel2001 9 лет назад
Thanks for the answer...but how does it work?
@Wrenchmonkey1
@Wrenchmonkey1 9 лет назад
buellfuel2001 To be perfectly honest, I'm not 100% certain. I've never given it a second glance. I believe it works by having a large enough mass that if the gun drops and hits the ground, the inertia causes it to fall and block the primary sear from moving backward and releasing the hammer, but again, I've never really looked at it closely enough to be able to give an honest answer. If I had designed the gun, it would always be in the "block" mode, and actuating the trigger would cause it to move out of the way. But I didn't design it, and I'm pretty well certain that it doesn't have any linkages connecting to it, so I'm pretty sure that it just relies on mass and inertia.
@robertsjames2002
@robertsjames2002 4 года назад
A 4 year old answer lol: It IS a drop safety, in case the weapon is dropped onto it's muzzle. If you were to do so with a round loaded, the weight of the drop safety causes it to move forwards (through inertia) and block the sear from dropping the hammer. If you were to drop it on the stock, the weight of the bolt may just eject a round and load another, but the hammer would remain locked into the sear.

No. The sear still works. Only when the trigger is pulled back all the way does the sear rotate out of the way. When it's released, it moves back. This is the way the OEM P90 trigger pack functions. This works exactly like it would if it was a factory-built P90.
@Deputy276
@Deputy276 8 месяцев назад
Just curious, but if you somehow found a P90 FA trigger pack, could you just drop it in and have full auto?
@Wrenchmonkey1
@Wrenchmonkey1 8 месяцев назад
Mostly. You'd have to also either replace or modify the factory safety selector to allow the trigger to move the sear all the way back into the 'full auto' position, but it's effectively a 'drop in' conversion beyond that.

any possibility of a light strike because the hammer isn't fully back to the rear in full auto?
@robertsjames2002
@robertsjames2002 4 года назад
7 year old answer: No. The hammer would reset to the same position every time, so long as the groove in the hammer itself is forward enough (as in the video). If you have the stock groove, then then hammer would never reset fully and would follow the bolt forward, firing only one round (due to the trigger moving farther backward and releasing without the auto sear being tripped by the bolt)

Where select fire assault type rifles often are hard to control on full auto, even 5.56 NATO rifles, the P90 is easy to control on full auto. Sadly one must have a Class III dealer's license to own one AND then you have to re-up that P90 full auto ownership permit every year. Not fun or cheap. i even debate whether it is worth going to an SBR mode on my PS90 and lose the velocity I have with the longer barrel. I just can't for the life of me understand why is FNH making these crucial parts out of plastic, I've broken three fire control groups on my FNP45's just dri-practicing. Perhaps I can find someone like minded that's willing to design an aluminum one to sell.

I CNC'd a 6061 aluminum fire control unit for my FNP45 the difference in weight is about .95 grams and I've yet to break it or stress any of the pin holes that I thought I would need to make out of S.S. it wouldn't cost much to manufacture however it's more profitable to have them break and sell replacement units, that said; I wouldn't want anyone protecting me much less the nation carrying a tool that will break on them when they need it to save someone's life including my own.

That's strange. I've had no problems with the trigger group in this weapon, even after the mods. I think the reason for using polymer is for both weight and cost savings. Although, cost savings certainly isn't being reflected in how much they're charging for the end product. They're maximizing their profits, that's for sure. They sell 'em to government organizations and law enforcement types for about half what they sell them to 'peasants' for. They're like H&K. They HATE the civilian market.
@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017
Why do they hate the civilian market? Because we actually care about quality and service?

Yes, was a conversion of a PS90 trigger pack that was converted to a P90 trigger pack. I no longer have it, because I let my FFL lapse. Fortunately, I had registered the trigger pack instead of registering the rifle itself, so I only had to get rid of the pack.

2A should be all you need, but the US Constitution is no longer respected by the feds or cops. No more rights, only privileges you can purchase back from The Crown through licenses and permits. ;) The trigger group is very similar between the AUG and P(S)90. I believe some parts are even interchangeable. But I don't have an AUG, so I can't speak directly to that.

I want a legal full auto P90 because I work in a job that gets me in a situation that requies me to use a gun average of 2 times a year.It is a blatant infringement of my 2a rights not to have the best weapon possible to nutalize the threat as efficiently as possible.BATF must be disbanded so citizens are sufficiently armed as the 2a intended.

Yikes. I'm not sure what type of job that would be, but if it doesn't pay well enough to be able to get your own F/A, I'd probably start looking for another line of work! Stay safe!

This is funny You do not know what your doing If you where truely qualified and licensed you would know you dont need to modify the sear/disconnector to get it to work.

Yes there are other ways that you can make it work, but you don't get true functionality of the trigger pack. A properly functioning P90 trigger pack doesn't just go full-auto on you every time you pull the trigger. It works in both semi, AND full auto. Yes, you can make it straight full auto, but I wanted it to function the way it's supposed to, and it does. Some people might think that means I don't know what I'm doing. I think the vast majority of qualified people would agree with me, however, that restoring it to the factory functionality is the correct way to do it, vs just removing parts and making it go full auto. But everybody is entitled to their opinions, including yourself. Feel free to share what it is about you that makes you feel that you're more qualified to do this mod than myself. Feel free to share your own video of how YOU, as a qualified individual, did this mod. Thanks for watching and commenting!

uraijit You did not mention the one other part needing modification/replacing to make it fully select fire. Even with that trigger pack installed, it still won't make a *stock* PS90 fire in full auto. I'm not saying you don't know what you are doing, just that you left that important bit out. ;-)

Element of Kindness The purpose of this video is not to teach people how to make their PS90 full-auto, it's to show how the trigger group works, and how *I* modified mine to restore proper function for my registered post-ban dealer sample. There is one small modification needed to the safety selector, to get the rifle to fire full auto, but that has nothing to do with how the P90 trigger group functions. If I were to do a tutorial intended to show others who to modify their own rifles, it would go into much more depth on how to do the mods, and the safety selector mods would be included. But I don't see it as a prudent thing to do to teach people explicitly how to do it, since most people don't have the proper licensing to do so legally. The people who do have the licensing can (and regularly do) contact me directly for help. Thanks for watching, and commenting.
