I became an 'AK Guy' when my Army-issued M-16A2 jammed on me, during an 'Army Aviator Escape & Evasion' course, because there wasn't time to clean it while on the run from 'opposing forces'... At one point, I had the drop on an 'enemy' soldier; but once he heard the dead click of my firing pin *NOT* striking the primer, he very quickly turned around and shot me... I failed the course, and I then knew that, if I ever truly 'went to war,' I'd want an AK since they've been known for their uber-reliability since Kalashnikov came out with them... *Excellent video!*
I gotta say, I've never been a fan of any manufacturer made American AK furniture but there's something about that set that's just sexy on that little gun.
@@frankmunn6168 5.45 7n6 is pretty decent for short barrels because it doesn't rely on velocity for its wounding effect (fragmentation), but rather the hollow core with lead backing guarantees tumbling, even at low velocities.
@@esolo114 buy some REAL lead bullets and roll your own! they got all kinds of 223 bullets, from 60 to 90 grains. use them, they might go a little further.
Got mine recently, i put 6 mags through it the other week or so back. Ran flawlessly, i did change out the grip for a houge grip. I was impressed with the quality of the workmanship. Im anxious to see what shot show at the psa ak booth will reveal.
As far as rear lugs go on AK mags, it's usually an issue of thickness more so than length. Some mags have pretty thick rear lugs that prevent them from locking in properly.
Great video on a great little pistol. They're on sale right now and actually in stock. I bought one tonight and am super excited for it to get here! I've wanted a shorty AK for a loooong time!
Eric Brown it's my favorite! I have an SBR AR that was my baby but it's been replaced. This thing is badass! So much fun to shoot and amazingly accurate. I've fixed her up quite a bit so it's a very well rounded weapon now. The recoil was a bit harsh with that worthless krink booster. I installed a Zentico DTK-2 brake and now it's as soft as my AR's. I put a micro red dot on top, a streamlight TLR1 HL light, a Zentico charging handle, US Palm pistol grip (I HATE the magpul AK grip that it comes with and an Armacor enhanced safety lever. She runs like a Swiss watch. I got her at the end of November and I have 1,500 rounds through her so far without a single hiccup. Every mag I own fit too. That's mil surplus steel from all over, bakelites, a tapco, original US Palm, magpul and the excellent Toth tool mags (bulgy circle 10 clones).
Was really hoping PSA would release a brace that used the original folding trunion hinge instead of that big clunky Tapco looking block. They came so close. Maybe we'll see a Gen 2 as well..
to keep costs down they switched to a "picatinny" rear trunnion instead of a standard AK folding pattern. And I agree, it looks absolutely terrible because of it.
@@124thDragoon Kalashnikov USA revealed their triangle brace at SHOT Show and its the same brace but with the hinge connector for standard folding trunnion. Exactly how PSA should have made it. It's still flimsy though. Same exact brace with a different connector.
If yours was covered in oil like mine I suggest putting locktite on all the screws after wiping them and the threads dry. They WILL walk on you Also a bit of gun grease or your choice of lube on that folding brace locking tab works wonders to get it moving. I worked mine up and down several times and it's been smooth sailing since. My receiver was dented up and PSA gave me a 10% refund. Other than that the action was pretty rough even after 500 rounds. I re profiled and polished a romanian hammer. Super smooth now. I zeroed my irons like all my other AKMs. I just use a combat zero and don't bother adjusting the rear leaf. 1" high poi at 25y. No issues I can tell out to 300. Maybe a little higher holdover but not much. No optic yet so idk about it holding zero. Too many other AKMs getting worked on... like that's a bad thing lol
100 with magnified optic and 50 without. Was at PSA in Greenville, SC this weekend. Nice place! They even have fishing gear to boot. Wish I had more time to look around but had to get to Clemson to watch Clemson destroy Boston College ;). Will have to check them out again next year. Was hoping to come away with the rifle version of this gun, but held off for now. Thank you for the review and will pick one up soon. Have a great week! Go Tigers 🐅
With 200 rounds of practice you should be able to own an 8 inch plate at 100 yds...... with iron sights!!!! After the practice at 100yds, scatter out 15 one gallon water bottles from 25 to 100 and see how fast you can hit them and how many rounds you have left in one mag....
Never had a Zastava shepards hook not hold the pins perfectly. I hate when people claim certain brands of AKs are junk when they actually don't know. US made AKs haven't quite had a solid reputation so far so I have reservations about this Palmetto version. It looks good but that doesn't count for much.
Also, thank you for showing that new promag mag with the metal lugs and feed lips! I had no idea they even existed. I'm so glad to finally see several very affordable polymer AK mags with metal lugs hitting the market! I have a dozen old bakelites that I LOVE and a few of the original US Palm but that's it for polymer (Bakelite is technically a phenolic resin) mags that have metal lugs. I have about ten of the all polymer pmags and they're good range mags but I'd never trust them for defense because they're known to break the lugs if dropped. Luckily I have a pile of old steel com block mags too that, might be heavy as shit and have wobble, are indestructible.
I was just about to buy a Vska trooper but after seeing the price I thought of other options. I went with a Psa underfolder polish style with a Fn chrome lined barrel for basically the same price
I shoot 100 yards, without a bench, using a m92 pap hitting a 6 inch plate consistently. This insures my accuracy for 50 yards and your video was well done.
What is the purpose of the last round bolt hold open? The bolt closes as soon as you take the mag out. So I can only assume it is just to let you know the mag is empty.
Slick Sixguns the new GF3 series are great. They finally have forged trunnion, bolt and bolt carrier like an AK should. The first gens had cast parts and ate themselves apart. The new one made it through AK operators union 5,000 round torture test.
My US Palm mags will not lock in on my PSA AK-P47. They are super tight. I Have not tried to fit them to it yet. They fit in my VSKA fine but not so much in the PSA. They are the US Palm mags that are non metal lugs
I enjoy watching your videos and have watched quite a few. I am interested in buying an AK pistol and have a PSA GB2 billet rifle. I was wondering how loud they are compared to an AK in 7.62 with a 16” barrel. Also I saw your review on the Polish WBP and was wondering which is better in your opinion. The barrel in these isn’t chrome lined. Thanks again for all the reviews. Would you wait for a G4 PSA pistol?
Both the WBP and PSA are excellent pistols. I don't really care if the barrel is chrome lined or not; it's a pistol and I don't shoot corrosive ammo. The booster on the PSA keeps the noise down some, but regardless you can always change noise by changing the muzzle device.
I can’t believe I haven’t ordered this yet!! I get close and then tell myself I can’t afford it. Then 2 days later I’m doing the same thing, look at it, put it in my cart to order, then backing out!
@@johnknouse8846 I just bought one on the first of this month. Ive seen it it available a couple more times this week but it goes fast. check multiple times a day they seem to be pumping some out.
how are you liking the AK-P? I was really hoping the brace was aluminum, but apparently it is polymer & rubber. Any other issues, and does it seem likely for the hinge to break?
Are the handguards standard AKM pattern or some other size? Mainly asking because I'm going to put a Hogue handgrip on and thinking to get some surplus wood.
How much were they? They are releasing some for sale next week according to the owner in the one fb group I’m in. They sold out last week in like 2 minutes. Lol. Been debating on getting one shipped here.
I suggest zeroing the rifle to be 2 inches high at 50 yards. That way you will have the same poa/poi at 25 and in and still be able to take the odd shot at 100 or more by just aiming at the belt buckle area.
Nice pistol I love mine in nutmeg . But the brace is great you broke your brace. Your forcing it to fold without pushing the button to fold it. And I’m guessing trying to fold it and not do it correctly you broke the price that locks it. Mine locks in amazing in the fold I position and folding it back to the brace position.
Unlike most of the other channels out there we refuse affiliate deals, no hype here. I bought the gun, you're getting an honest opinion in our reviews.
Branded as PSA. Who knows if they make them or not. We hear such great things about PSA, but obly from affiliates. I can however say that this pistol is beautifully built and functions flawlessly.
We separate tabletop from range, if you want to see how any gun we've reviewed does on the range search our channel page for gun name Shooting Impressions
the length of the magazine's rear locking tooth is oftentimes less important than it's thickness top to bottom, specifically it's bottom profile and angle. I own multiple magazines that would have never been "fixed" by simply shortening the tooth. I really wish they could have designed that brace to be of higher quality. It isn't really rigid enough to shoulder with any amount of force.
Jackson Phan 5 days ago Great video. I have a question, can you install a Magpul Zhukov side folder to SBR this pistol without modification or drilling? Does this model come with a rear tang trunnion on it? Thank you.
No problem. I'm VERY anxiously awaiting mine. I also ordered a Sig Romeo 5 from Palmetto to put on it. They've got them for $119 with free shipping right now too. They're on fire right now. That's a screaming deal for a really nice little budget micro red dot. Primary had them for $99 for 24 hours but they were the model that only came with the high AR mount which would have done me no good on this AK. The one from Palmetto comes with the low pic mount and the high AR mount.
I don't understand the concern over mag wobble. I have several fairly wobbly mags (out of around 30 total mags)and they all work fine. Have you ever had a magazine so wobbly that it malfunctioned for that reason?
did you ever take it to the range for accuracy? thanks for the good review. (very next video in my search was the range video... again good video on it too)
Mine stovepiped every single round out of the box. You can see a short video I took of it to send to PSA to prove the problem. The worst part is they have a no return after transfer policy. So I can't shoot the gun before I get it transferred to my name, but the second I do, I can no longer return it.
@@mr.c.3760 It's not too squishy, but if you really hold tight it will buckle during rapid fire. It happened to me a few times, but didn't happen to Teya who's less aggressive with it.
they could have drilled those holes about a eight of an inch, then took a punch abd shove it in there and waller those holes out. then se a new punch the right size in those holes and punch it thru! do it all the time when refinish pin holes in all kind of things. drill a hole in a piece of iron metal and thru it! first one will work, but do a second one for practice!. will be lots better. on that rifle those two holes have to rally be alined well. might be better to use smaller punches to do this work then drill those holes in a pattern you make from 1/4 in steel.
The Zastavas aren't as great, it's shameful the new importer charges so much. Replace the shepherd's crook with a plate, that will help with the walking pins. The wobbling carrier is from poor QC.
I bought the exact same AK last year when they first came out and i really dig it. The red wood is kind of slick so i changed out the handle and put a hogue grip on it. Feels great and i left the fore end as is. Overall i dig the little chopper. Very well made and works just fine. I was a little sceptical of getting an American made AK, but i have well over 1,500 rounds through it and works just fine.
@@GBGuns Hey, I understand you’re still sore about your experience with your last purchase but let’s be honest here, your experience was the exception, not the rule.
Seriously, both the WBP and PSAs cost less (at time of filming) and are much better guns with more features and better fit and finish. If by exception you mean that my Z guns were actually purchased, and that I bought two of them in sequential serial numbers where as most other videos you see are by folks who were sent specific guns and who stand to gain money if you buy their gear/accessories/swag/ use affiliate codes then yes.
