Just saw this video. My wife has tons of art and craft tools. She saw me taking some games apart, and she gave me one her tools some time back. it is made by Fiskars. basically a pizza cutter, ( very sharp ), with a blade protector... i can cut thru an entire games counters in the matter of minutes.. then I take my card clipper, like you showed on here. and vala. done. Just did the entire MBT game in 3 hours... That arts and craft pizza cutter, works great. I tried that knife stuff since i started gaming in late 60's, what a PIA... 3 cheers for pizza cutters
Some call those nubs "dog ears", but back to the subject. I find that a pair of good size scissors work better then a x-acto knife. As us model builders do have and use the god-send x-acto knife for cutting plastic spurs or what have you, such tool can cut (strip) the side of your counter to easily if to sharp. So I stopped using that and now I just use a large pair of scissors. I also use the 2.5" Oregon clip cutter but must say after three sheets of counters I had to glue one of the sleeves that guide those two horns that pop up when you press the clipper down. As always thanks for the upload!
I've been fortunate with my clipper so far, hope it lasts a few more years. I'll try scissors on cutting the counters out, would probably be so much easier.
Like many wargamers, I’m just a tad OCD. (O.K., I’m a LOT OCD or I wouldn’t be watching a video on counter clipping, lol 😂!) I bought the 2mm Oregon clipper and plan to use it on two new games: A World at War, and The U.S. Civil War - both from GMT Games. Yeah, $70 bucks or so is a lot of money to invest in a tool for this purpose, but the results are so consistent and professional looking that I just prefer that over the “cheap John” methods that leave your counters looking like home modified pieces of junk. I look at it like this: Buy once. Cry once. If you have a lot of traditional wargames and you hate the nubs on the corners of your counters, THIS tool will give you the psychic relief you need! 🤣🤣🤣 Also, part of the fun of any hobby is fiddling with your stuff and customizing it to improve things. So I like that about “clipping counters” as well. Now….back to the clipping!!! 🤓🤓🤓
I'm a little undecided at the moment. I'm considering grabbing the 2mm as many of my games rely on half inch counters and some have print very close to the edge.
I found the 2.5 does a good job, so instead of buying a 2 for smaller counters and then a 3 for larger, 2.5 hit the sweet spot for me. I don't think it removes as much as people thinks it does. And not enough to make numbers unreadable in my opinion.
@@CounterProductiveGames Thank you for the reply, it's greatly appreciated. I've looked at a number of comparative images and I find it really hard to judge how much of the counter is removed. As an example of one of the counters I have with info close to the edge. There's approximately 1mm between the corner of the counter and the nearest corner of the printed info. Across the bottom there is slightly less than 1mm. Admittedly this is an example of one with info extremely close to the edge but the counters within this particular game frequently stray within this distance.
@@FreeFragUK for something like that, I'm sure it would cut into the graphic, number etc. but sill leave more than enough to know what it is. Really just a decision then on how important the overall image is to . If you don't won't the information touched at all, then yeah, a small cutter needed. For me, as long as I can still read the data with no problem, I'm ok with a slightly smaller number that is still recognizable
I have not seen those counters myself, but I'd guess yes. The clipper I'm using was designed for clipping laminated workplace badges, so I'm pretty sure it can handle most thicknesses of counters.
It actually took me some time to decide which one to get, I talked it over with my wife and in her wisdom, we went with 2.5. Since I couldn't decide on 2 or 3, 2.5 seemed best.
One that I know of is a game system called ACS, I think it means. It's by a company called Critical Hit, they make content for Advanced Squad Leader and Advanced Tobruk. www.criticalhit.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Session_ID=7c0c3d184a37e1fa7eeea4fe47dc9a03&Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=ACS
I have tried nail clippers and for me, it never gave as nice looking or consistent looking corner. For me, it was just more convenient to get a corner rounder. If I wasn't so clumsy with nail clipper, yep, cheaper option for sure!
I've been lucky, I've used mine for years and it still clips like a champ. But, I have heard many people say that the older version may look weird, but it holds up much better. Either way, it's so much better than clipping toe nail clippers!
