These Psalms of Ascent are believed by many to having been assembled for the purpose of being sung on the way to the Temple at Feast Days. There is not consensus on that, but the ones we examine today would certainly be celebratory for those who would be going there, even under difficult circumstances.
No matter how they are viewed, we know they were the heart's cry of the Psalmist and were incredibly worshipful. Even if the nation was not of one mind to follow their God, there were those who did and they acknowledged His great name. I could hope that in our time, many in Israel would discover The One who has always been in their midst, if only they would reach to Him.
The church could very easily see how God preserves His own, even in the most difficult of times, and those who call upon Him cannot be moved because He is The One who preserves His own.
