I'm not even gonna be pedantic about the fact that the original Funkytown was released in 1979, in my eyes you are very much correct wow I spelled correct very poorly
@@OlaftheGreat es verdad ya que la original tenía todavía esos toques discos y la producción tan característica de los 70s todavía el sonido de los 80s no estaba tan definido
Who cares what they appreciate. All they like is noise, which has more often than not, little to do with melody, charm or class or anything worthwhile to listen to.
Who is we? Di you represent a group of like minded people who hate the 80’s or the people from it? No one can control when they are born And no one can go back to the 80’s or any other time or place in time. Your response should have been to each their own. You have NO say in what anyone else does, ever!
This is one of the rare cases where the remake is just as great as the original. This was definitely 80's. I can imagine teens driving to the mall blasting this song on cassette (or in my case, listening to it on the radio with my Walkman).
Remember when this came out , it was INSANE !!! Instant air guitar and another reason for millions of boys to wear out their right hands . The 80's was so fucking great !!!!!!!
Well, the original is a annoying gimmicky bit of disco fluff, it's lucky it got the rework, it doesn't deserve it. Least this proves the song's not a total duffer, but only cos the way they did it. Still prefer an original song they did like 'Listening', that's a classic the silly original of this song can't hope to compete with.
Definitely my favorite remake of a song. I usually HATE remakes, being such a purist. But I loved the heavy rock beat they put on this. I love it still in 2022, in my mid-50's!!!
I feel the same on remakes but this one was an exception. The dance tempo here no doubt wore out a few bodies on the floor but hey you only live once, so have fun!! I'm 66 and still loving the music, too!
Not many cover versions of a classic song have such energy soul as this one does! The 80's truly were a magical decade!!!! I miss them so Very Much!!!!
The 80 s when men were men and women were proud of it as a African American love this song came out I were 16 no Beyonce s Rihanna s the 1980 s when men were men and women were proud of it especially when you were a teenager
@@lindaramirez5044 His Eyes is unfortunately more niche. Friday the 13th fans love that song, which is a lot of people. Actress Tiffany Helm from that movie actually made that song as known as it is because she told the makers she really liked the band Psuedo Echo and they had her dance to it. They gave her most of the creative control of her characters look, dance, music, and design of her bedroom
Pseudo Echo gave a great live show....Australia had some awesome bands playing great rock at al the pubs or festivals etc in the 80s...top talent and bands at so many great venues, in a short time visiting the Gold Coast we saw these guys, Cold chisel, Midnight oil, Ice House & Inxs all doing the pubs circuit...amazing time
@@batfleckforever3594 The word "keytar" is actually a recent term, like "yacht rock." Believe it or not, nobody called it a "keytar" back in the '80s. They were called "remote controllers" or "remote keyboards" or "strap-on controllers." One company came out with a controller with the brand name "Keytar" (which actually wasn't a big seller compared to its competition models) but no one was able to use it because it was trademarked.
It's a keytar. It's same as any old keyboard, but worn like a guitar. Keytar was ( like Kleenex) a brand name, so remote synth, portable synth, shoulder synth, strap synth were a few of the names I'd heard flying around at the time. Moog synth had one as far back as the 70's called the Liberator I believe...
SEE their faces ,Those young men had a BALL with this one ,JUST HAVING FUN FUN FUN with this one .The 80,s will ALWAYS be the GREATEST Decade in music .
Lipps Inc: We had a big hit a few years ago and now I'm thinking it could have been an eternal masterpiece with a few changes.... Pseudo Echo: We got this!!! I remember when this version hit the airwaves back in the day and to this day it's one of my all time favorites. It never gets old.... only better!
These guys were some of the greatest ever, cover or not! My band "Turbo" opened for them various times. They were always gracious and helpful. Loved them to pieces.
The best rendition I ever heard of this song was done by my son's middle school band in 1988 at a school band concert. They did well with all their songs and then the final one was "Funky Town" and the kids went over the top -- a bit disjointed as a middle school band would be but with huge feeling --- it was fabulous. Luckily I had my little tape recorder with me and can still play it.
great cover, best ever.. not even close.. ELVIS cover of big mama thortons Hound Dog, Joan Jetts cover of the Arrows I love Rock N Roll, GNR cover of Knockin on Heavens Door, Aerosmith cover of Remember (walking in the sand), The Animals remake of House of the Rising Sun, Leo Sayer cover of More Than I Can Say, Aretha Franklins cover of Respect, Whitneys cover of I Will Always Love You... just to name a few that are better covers and there are sooooooo many more.
I'm normally averse to cover versions, but this one simultaneously manages to respect the original while adding its own unique sound. That takes real talent.
Honestly have no idea who Pseudo Echo is outside of this song...but if you're going to be a one-hit wonder, this is the song to do it on, and man, did they do it. Love this song...amazing solo, great bass drum intro, great hook, and well sung. Perfect 80's era rock and roll.
Releasing a cover just seven years after the original is normally risky and does not guarantee a hit but these guys are great and delivered a smash that reached #6 in the USA. Thank you Aussies. You are the greatest.
"Normally risky"?....no, not at all. 7 years was not risky at all. Do you have any idea how often a cover version is released soon after the original? For example, Eric Clapton released his version of "I Shot the Sheriff" 1 year after Bob Marley did. Proud Mary by Tina Turner, 1 year after the original. Girl's Just Want to Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper, 4 years after the original. Several of Van Halen's early hits were cover songs. Heck, Kiss by Prince was covered by both Art of Noise and Tom Jones while Prince's version was still on the charts and both covers made the top 20. Everyone from Nine inch Nails to Elvis Presley have done similar. If anything, covering a hit song so soon after the original is far less risky then making an original song.
@@MrRobarino They ended up being a one hit wonder though. At least Alien Ant Farm was a one hit wonder with a MJ song. These guys became one hit wonders of another one hit wonder.
This has got to be the BEST version! The guitar solo, the singing style, and the style of music makes if FUNKY! EVEN FUNKIER THAN THE ORIGINAL VERSION!!!
Oh i miss the 80s....an era of musical extravanza that thrilled like never before or after...Still listening especially this one. This is one my favorite cover of funky town ❤.
nope, original is way better ... you guys should get your ears checked .. The original is more fun, more instrumental variation, more creative spirit ... this cover lacks variation, its the same sound throughout the whole damn song and the only good part (the so called variation) is taken wholesale from the original ....
Cant believe this came out in 1986, I remember being a kid and being stopped in my tracks when first heard this song and I instantly loved the band. This was at the start of my now decades of learning the guitar and for me this song was a massive undertaking for me as a kid. It set me on a road that had me discovering Yngwie, Gary Moore, Vai etc and into professional music work and much of it was started by this (cover) songs influence alone.
80’s magic all in this song, off the charts energy and passion ….another great Aussie 80’s band, how many we had is unreal and world class …these guys were awesome saw them live a few times always great shows, blessed to have grown up then 👍😎
I love Funky Town ❤from the 70's....Just happened to see this last night on MTV I love my 80s...I was blown away by this Funky Town... Amazing job .. the guitar 🎸 and keyboard phenomenal the drumming phenomenal ❤ listening in July 2023 ❤
This has become my favorite music video of 1987. Im up to 270 albums for the year and among tons of great songs and videos i am simply hooked on this masterpiece, and these four sexy hunks!
Was working at the Dollar General yesterday and after hearing the original, a few songs later, this played! I couldn't been happier knowing a cover like this existed. Keep rocking on guys!
Pseudo Echo...another Australian band with surprise success in 80s...other Australian acts in 80s..Men At Work, INXS, ACDC, Kylie Minogue,Ice House, Olivia Newton John...all had success during 80s
This was in a 80s movie right? I know the original was, but the Synth in this really sounds as if I k ow I heard this versions before and u till today I forgot that it existed.
@@scottsmith4933 no millennial would have that username. Like no millennial would have mine. But as you're American, you won't have a clue about either or where they came from ☺️(hint - British TV in the 70s/80s)
The 1983 version of Listening was okay, something terrible happened between that and this, where they changed from an edgy synth outfit to a terrible cheesy soft rock mess. Oh dear.
Hard to say which version i like better between this song or Lipps Inc's version because they're both great songs, I was happy for Pseudo Echo that they were able to score a Top 10 hit with their rendition of this song in the Summer of 1987
This band was amazing. Peculiarly I bought a cassette of Pseudo Echo in a department store, like a Granny's John Lewis, in a small town called Martinsville in Virginia, USA. Martinsville is most famous for having a Nascar race on it's half mile bull ring track. It was also a major cotton town and was then still the headquarters of the Pannill Knitting Company, a major producer of fleecewear and owned by Sara Lee.
