Nature - Wild Life - Insect Life - Nocturnal Moth - Pseudoips Prasinana or the green silver-lines is a moth of the family Nolidae, common in wooded regions, and having a wingspan of 30-35 mm. It is found in the Palearctic realm :North and Central Europe, Russia, Siberia, Korea, Japan.
Nolidae is a family of moths with about 1,700 described species worldwide. They are mostly small with dull coloration, the main distinguishing feature being a silk cocoon with a vertical exit slit.
Pseudoips Prasinana flies from June to July depending on the location stridulating on the wing. In August the larvae feed on oak, birch and several other deciduous trees.
Identification of the caterpillar is done by the lateral red line on the back legs.
At dusk, Pseudoips Prasinana exhibit a unique ballet, fluttering en masse in a captivating, synchronized dance to attract mates.
Identification of adults, the male has yellow, dark yellow or red wing edges and the female has white.
In my video can be seen the adult male, how he walks, how he warms his wings before flying and how he takes flight. You can see how the shades of green change in the sunlight and in the shade. In the caterpillar, you can see the red stripes on the legs at the end of the tail, this is how it is identified. There is another caterpillar, similar, but without the red stripes. That caterpillar is not the caterpillar from which this butterfly emerges.
