3 hole punch came to be when one of Shawn's lines mention a 3 hole puncher and the producers told him to say punch because it was way more funny'. Now to make fun of that producer when anyone says three hole punch the cast laughs because apparently 3 hole punch is 'way more funny'

the gag began with a script written by Tim Meltregr, which included a joke about a threehole punch. Roday misspoke the line as "three-hole puncher". Meltregr called for a cut and raced onto the set insisted that Roday read the line as scripted, because "Three-hole punch is *way* funnier than three-hole puncher!" it became a running joke on the set: som1 says the words "three-hole punch" while shooting and the cast and crew all pretend to laugh as if it's the funniest thing they've ever heard

Mudge test. xD Damn, THREE-HOLE PUNCHER! If you watch the Lassie Did a Bad Bad Thing audio commentary, Dule Hill introduces himself, saying, "I'm Dule Hill. I play Gus, also known as a THREE-HOLE PUNCHER!" And the whole room starts laughing. In the background, Tim Omundson goes, "I wet myself!" And rounds out with James Roday going, "Never gets old!" Probably one of the best jokes from this whole season. xD

@LostBoysReunion it's an old cast joke. one of the writers wanted to write "three hole punch," instead of "three hole puncher," because s/he thought it was funnier. neither line is very funny, though, so the cast started making that a running joke. somebody would say "three hole punch(er)" and everybody else would collapse in laughter, and then just keep going like normal.

Its an inside joke. There was a line that James said wrong. He said "three hole puncher" but a writer or producer came running on set saying "No! Its three hole punch! Three hole punch is way funnier!" So every time they brought it up they would laugh like its the funniest thing they've heard.

@jantisoy One of the show's writers, named Tim, claimed that saying "three-hole punch" was funnier than saying "hole puncher". Of course, it was changed in the show to the normal "hole puncher", and whenever they said "three-hole punch" they were all laughing at Tim for saying that.

@jantisoy one of the scriptwriters thought three hole punch sounded funnier than three hole punchER so they started to say puncher and laugh hysterically to "show him" that it was funnier! .:P awesome!
