Research shows that psilocybin mushrooms have promising results for mental health support, particularly in reducing symptoms of depression, anxiety and PTSD.
In my experience, psychedelics can be extremely useful; I like to think of them as more of a tool of sorts than a drug. They can help one gain a new perspective on life and provide the user with insightful thoughts on things normally taken for granted. My use of psilocybin has made me more appreciative of the short time I have on Earth.
Yes....it broadens our existential parameters! This is the dialogue the visionary entity of the sacred mushroom carries on with us... it presents the important questions of who and what we are in this natural world while emphasizing matters of the spirit, love, compassion and eternity. The less distractions there are after imbibing, the deeper this dialogue will be, sit quietly surrounded by loved ones and listen closely to what the sacred mushroom has to say, it is the supreme plant ally, the master teacher!
As for my own experience, as he has suggested, the antidepressant effects were not permanent. This means regular psilocybin intake would sometimes with some individuals be required at particular intervals within a year. My personal ideal consumption would be at least four times per year. GROW YOUR OWN :)
Neither one is more 'powerful' than the other, it would depend on your dose. 250ug of LSD will always dwarf 1g of psilocybin mushroom. The mushroom will give you a more internal, physically comfortable journey. It answers questions, and guides you with grand visions of the grand scheme. LSD is much more external (for me), and very rapid, aggressive and intense. It asks more questions than it answers and can leave you utterly disoriented. You'll think a great deal about patterns, systems, psychology, politics and conventional creations, rather than the natural world. Both heavily depend on set and setting. In my opinion LSD relies more on setting, and psilocybin more on set. Mushrooms create a dreamy, lucid state of thinking where the mind wanders, whereas Acid is very acute, and alert, comparatively. Everyone reacts differently, and everything is heavily dependant on various chemical compositions and environmental factors, but this is my general take on it.
Tedias0103 this is the best description of the two. Exactly how i feel about them. Acid was my go to but i started getting a lot of anxiety and switched to shrooms, which were much more calming and forgiving
Mushrooms really put things into perspective for me, and made a lot of deep problems seem trivial and laughable , they make you see love if you haven't and be more courageous if your not, if your too concerned with the self or being a nice person for your self, it takes that a way and show us we are all connected/ the same
I know it seems wholly 'un-scientific' to say ( that's never stopped me before), but perhaps these guided sessions may only be effective to a certain extent. As Robin mentioned towards the end of his talk, psychedelic assisted psychotherapy is not a one size fits all key. What I suggest is what has been suggested before, taking 5 dried grams of psilocybin cubensis in silent darkness ALONE. You might say well that's dangerous it could be terrifying for someone who doesn't want to let go. And I'd agree. However, taking 5 dried grams alone in silent darkness will be enough to push someone over the edge so that the choice of holding on is taken away from them which, counter to popular belief, is often liberating as the experience can turn incredibly profound after a person let's go. When you talk to people who have had 5DGISD you only ever hear immensely positive things with reports of people not only shedding their past traumas but finding a new appreciation for life on this planet and a new found sense of global consciousness (of course, this is not data I have to hand as so far as I can tell no psychotherapy has taken this approach). I do not put forward that I am right and Robin is wrong, of course not! I agree with and admire Robin wholly. I simply put forward that maybe this first stage of psychedelic assisted psychotherapy has been incredibly helpful, both in breaking a stigma and in showing us the faults. 5DGISD may not be the answer, again, but it may be yet another method to be added which could add to the spectrum of affectivity. I would, of course, gladly take anyone's opinions on this matter. Hopefully we can get a good, respectful, insightful discussion going here :)
DMT, LSD, and psilocybin mushrooms are truly remarkable. A few years back, I was grappling with severe depression and mental health issues, and was diagnosed with BPD. It wasn't until a friend suggested psilocybin mushrooms that things began to change for me. It was a lifesaver, and I've been completely clean for 6 years now.
Congrats on your recovery. Most persons never realizes psilocybin can be used as a miracle medication to save lives. Years back i wrote an entire article about psychedelics. They saved you from death bud, lets be honest.
Hey mates! Can you help with the source? I suffer severe anxiety, panic and depression and I usually take prescription medicine, but they don't always help. Where can I find those psilocybin mushrooms? 🙏
I cried watching this... What is wrong with our governments... but more importantly, what is wrong with our society to attach such outlandish stigma to something so life-changing... may the psychedelic revolution come sooner!
Hear! Hear! I honestly think that they (the institutions & Big Pharma) have such an almost completely useless (and yet very, very profitable enterprise) in place with their highly suspect SSRI / CNS drugs, etc., that they see only a loss when it comes to psychedelics and the like. I don't think they're concerned about another counter-culture revolution, but perhaps I'm wrong there. There's been enough very positive research done for them to go full throttle ahead if they chose to. Maybe it is the worn out, old stigma that stops them moving forward as they should? The results he's provided here have been duplicated everywhere and, if science is truly the issue, then this sort of research should be a big, big positive when it comes to mental health, etc. But science is clearly not their priority. So I assume (as with everything else) that it must come down to $$$$$$.
Also now, I believe Oregon has decriminalized it, as well as a whole host of other mind altering substances. If the whole country eventually goes that way, we can put the hideous drug cartels out of business and put an end to all the horror and misery they cause, both here and in the countries where they are based. Then we can spend all the billions we save by calling off the so called war on drugs, and treat anybody who gets addicted to any of the substances that have been legalized. Of course the drugs would be taxed too, generating even more money. It makes all the sense in the world to me.
Psychedelics have the potential to make a significant impact on mental health issues like anxiety and depression. They've been incredibly helpful for me personally.
Psychedelic mushrooms completely helped me get out of addiction and depression. It totally rewired my mind. Honestly, they worked better than antidepressants.
Psilocybin mushrooms changed me from an anxious, depressed, sometimes suicidal person living out years of unresolved trauma to a confident, spiritual, curious, loving person. My life will never be the same again, thank God. Thank you Dr Carhart-Harris for your important research.
@@sepsobhi7294 helo, im a war refuggee with severe ptsd. i was healed within 3 sessions. 1 g in hot tea made it better digestable. the expirience is about accepting yourself, telling yourself that you are loveable. discovering curiosity for life and admiration for wildlife. love from europe, emina
Take drugs for fun and to learn more about yourself. Not all trips will be sunshine and rainbows so hang on tight! Bad trips will tell you more about yourself than anything else in this world.
Nate Becker that is so fuckin true. My first salvia trip was terrifying and ended in bliss. That was 8 years ago and I still reflect on what I inferred internally quite regularly
Nate Becker please elaborate. :) Never having done such drugs I can hardly understand what truly happens during a bad trip neither what kind of long term effects such a "bad" trip can have on you
For anyone that doesn’t know, Oregon is in the process of creating a regulatory system that allows people to go into clinics and be guided through psychedelic experiences. The vote passed, it’s happening. This is the beginning of a new era of mental health treatments.
I took a 4/5g dose of psilocybin mushrooms while at a bit of a lull in what was nearly 2 and 1/2 years of suicidal depression. Short story: it changed my life and I haven't had a bout with depression in the 3~ years since. There's serious potential here.
Nick Burkill shrooms more than any other psychedelic give you a harmonious feeling. You tend to come out of the trip more aware of who you really are and total content with yourself
@@brokentoedspoon I really hope you come to appreciate this world as being the mother of all life on this planet :) instead of wishing to forsake her, embrace her
LSD didn't "cure" me, but it most certainly put me on the path and I probably wouldn't be here, living a more productive and happy life, without those experiences. A few LSD trips did more for me than 6 years of psychotherapy, anti-depressants and the like.
I think the biggest help psychedelics can give is to open up or change our perspective on things. This is something that pharmaceutical drugs simply do not address, which is really unfortunate.
Pharmaceuticals can only help you suppress your depression by making you ignore and cloud the root cause of your depression . Let alone that they are addictive and must be taken daily and when the effects wear out you feel even worse than before. Let alone all the long term psychotic side effects. On the other hand, psychedelics help u connect new bridges in your mind that your whole perception of reality changes. It is a tool that allows you to dive deep within yourself and makes you look into all your problems dead in the eye and confront them.
After taking Psychedelics, that made me more open minded, and learning more about the world how it actually is. I feel like an alien or something compared to most people around me. They are so superficial, easily influenced, not concerned with important topics. I think if more people took them ,especially those in power this world would be so much better. They would stop chasing money and fame, and start helping others and make the world a better place, for everyone.
Microdosing mushies helps me a lot with depression, anxiety and makes me motivated, more creative and overall happy. :) For months I‘ve woken up and felt really sad and worried. Thanks to mushrooms this is behind me now! But I know it doesn’t replace a therapy. It made me open to it.
I'm glad a true scientist used my analogy I've used for years to talk to people about my psychedelic experiences. Psilocybin mushrooms in particular make me feel very childlike. LSD is more analytical and mature feeling.
Yeah, it's crazy. Since I realized that I love to watch cartoons for kids (and I'm not talking about Adventure Time, Regular Show, or Aqua Teen Hunger Force)
The "infantile state being trippy" is a state that I hope one day to get back to. I only vaguely remember what it was like to be free in that time of my life.
+praszu it sounds great.. I'm glad to know that. Did u suffer from clinical depression or just mood disorders? What was ur method with mushroom.. Was it macrodosing dosage or tripping?
They are available anywhere you have postal access, you purchase the spores from web sites in Europe or the U,S, and teach yourself by use of commonly available literature as to how to grow them. By trial and error within a few months I was able to produce adequate amounts of magic mushrooms, I was 18 years old. So where there is a will there is a way so they say just keep in mind although there is no inherent harm in consuming them it is best not to let the mind get too carried away until you get a feel for how they act upon you, then you can let em rip:-) More educational than four years of college!
Fascinating. It sounds like it has been very good for your personal evolution and development. Very cool. A few questions.. -What was the inspiration or motive for your initial forray into exploring these particular mushrooms? -What do you see as being the single most compelling reason someone should learn more about and experience these mushrooms? -Are you still growing and evolving with the aid of these mushrooms, or have you plateaued?
Curiosity for me, Because its one of the most incredible experiences youll ever have, kindve like having a child, or having sex for the first time, falling in love. Its something everyone should experience at least once in their life time. Yes ive had the hardest laughs and long wheeping crys while on mushrooms. and conversations with either my conscious mind or god(still dont really know) that i will never forget. to this day i feel more humble and alot more loving. Everyone will experience it differently but i find people who are more attached to their ego or their belief system may have a hard time, because these drugs dont care for what you think you know about anything, it will rip you from your ego so its better to relax and not hold on so hard.
this is what you can do, download a tor browser which allows access to the dark web, go to hiddenwiki, find some dark web search engine and search for the website valhalla, i dont remember how i found it since i did before i even decided to buy them, also to buy these items you need to purchase bitcoins which you can do online, it seems like a lot of work but its not, also on valhalla you can see the reviews from people who bought certain products so you know how reliable the vendor is, it then is delivered to your door extremely professionally and stealthily
I took psychedelics as a teen twice. Enjoyed it but did it for fun because my bf begged me to do it w her. It changed my view of the world permanently and saw it in deeper ways for sure. People as well. I do wonder however this many years later if it’s okay to know things thst are hidden. From a Christian standpoint. I sensed things that I didn’t before. I’m watching those things play out today. Would thst be considered esoteric knowledge and be approved by God. Now I know many here don’t care about that so pls don’t respond. This question is for those that are Christian. There’s nothing written about this specifically. I do have a friend who greatly improved her depression from using this. So I was happy fir her. She was also very out of touch with her true self. She’s become much more interesting and capable of having meaningful dialogue since. So I’m interested.. This is from our planet after all.
“Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behaviour and information processing. They open you up to the possibility that everything you know is wrong.” ― Terence McKenna
I just thought I'd add in to what everyone else is saying.. Psilocybin made me quit depression and smoking. Helped me to find and refine my passion. Basically got me out of the slump I've been in ever since I fell into the default mode network after my childhood imagination had fled. For the proper people with the proper intentions, they can deliver magic.
This is definitely true in my case. I've eaten mushrooms regularly (1-4 times a month) for the last 6 years and it's been nothing but beneficial to my mind, body and soul. before mushrooms, life was pretty dark and bleak, I unknowingly suffered from depression and anxiety and after my first "trip" (it's got that name for a reason, it's a bit of a journey) I was able to acknowledge my inherent disorders and fears. it really is a wonder drug and a super food, I'd recommend to anyone, even very happy people.
Hi! Im a very hapoy person. I know myself real well my line of work is doing what i love street shows and making people happy. Integrity and mutual benefit is my philosophy if u can call it that. Striving for honesty and compassion. Doing what i know i was born to do. Of course there are personal.difficulties and so on but would u recomend me a 5g psilicibin trip? What can get from it? Thank u in advance for your responce 🙏 Oh i also listen to the amazing Terrence McKenna. Have a day full of sunshine on your soul🌻
@@tulinbeyduz920 I know you have probably figured it out by now, but I will answer for other people. You can buy a growkit which legal in most countries and you can grow mushroooms at your home(which is technically illegal, but ok whatever, as long as noone tells on you). Growing seems pretty straightforward so in general producing mushrooms seems to be quite asy. I still haven't done or tried that yet, but I have ordered my first growkit yesterday :)
@@cr4sher7 no i did not haa haa! I dont really feel the need. Last 6 months iv faced my demonds from childhood and trust me these 6 months were like a 10g trip of truth right in guts!!
Interesting how the times changed from the Harvard experiments and returned full circle to where we are today. This time we are being rational the last time we were responding to a falsely induced hysteria.
Leary, in retrospect, did remind me of a carnival barker in the drunken- dumb-show the 60's turned into. However the initial discoveries should not be discounted because of later excesses. His book with Alpert and Metzner "The Psychedelic Experience" is a notable achievement. It was done before the excesses took over and gave rise to the criticisms you rightly make a subtle note of. If the truth be told the media has a lot of responsibility for the drunken-dumb-show the 60's turned into.
hermenutic Yeah, Leary wasn't all bad and had a lot of good insights into psychedelic use. But I feel like his overly avid promotion of psychedelics did more harm than good. He was a pretty terrible person who was way too concerned with his own ego. Also he got pretty weird at harvard... I really think he had a lot to do with the backlash of psychedelics. I mean what do you think is gonna happen when you tell kids to drop out of school and take acid. Not the best introduction of LSD to the masses.
I think a lot less of Leary than I once did. Time has a way of revealing what is under the surface. I think you are right on about your description of his personality type. I've read a bit about him and do not find myself favorably impressed by a lot of it.To be honest if I had read nothing at all bad about psychedelics and instead read positive things which I did prior to 1966 in the mainstream press I would not have the fears that so many people attribute to the substances. I consider the psychedelic experiences of over 40 years ago some of the most significant insights and experiences of my life. That's being said I have not used them in decades but find little to say negative about them.
hermenutic Well you seem to have been around a lot longer than me, I'm glad there are people from your era who don't think so negatively about them. Right now I really think we are going through another psychedelic revolution, although much more under the radar from the mainstream sensationalism, thank god. I can't speak from direct experience because I didn't exist until the 90's but my peers and I seem to be a lot more cautious about taking these drugs now. We are taking them in lower doses than what I've heard people in the 60's did. We are blessed to have the internet so we have more information about harm reduction, and believe it or not LSD is at the highest purity it has ever been at thanks to the deep web (except for that pure medical LSD that was out there). I don't really know where I'm going with this, but you seem like a cool guy. It is just cool to hear from someone who was there when this culture shift occurred.
I imagine you're referring to Graham Hancock and Rupert Sheldrake. Hancock's psychedelic talk was MUCH more controversial (in a conservative sense, less scientific) than this talk. But I totally agree with you!
because tedx is a crypto fascist outfit who likes to feel as they control information which is freely available elsewhere.....everyone wants control and power to be their weapon to wield....screw em!
Well, look at how well-structured his talk is. Most of what he's saying is verifiable via his own data. Every word he says is backed up by data. Hancock's talk wasn't compiled from data, I'm sorry to say. Spirituality is not scientific. Whether you experience something on shrooms or acid or not, it doesn't matter. There is no scientific measurement of such a fact, and until there is, that isn't welcome in the realm of science. Conjecture is not data.
Abhinav Sharma Nicotine on its own is relatively harmless and alcohol when consumed at a normal rate, ie 2 drinks a week for most, is also relatively harmless. There is still very little research on it, unfortunately.
I think we'll see legalization within 10 years. Banning psychedelics was the worst mistake ever made! It's like banning the microscope for Biology. In this era people are in need for good theraphy but also tools to connect again with nature and the deepest roots of their minds.
Aaron Cooper The misinformation phase happened between the early 70's and 2005. That phase has ended. Many people think that the bans on psychedelics were based on some sort of evidence-based assessment of the risks -- that is simply not the case. Don't underestimate the power of science, evidence, and facts.
7:30 - "Perhaps the most important thing to have come out of our research with psychedelics isn't the knowledge of how they work in the brain but rather some idea of how they may be useful or how they may be applied." It's important to note here that the benefits of psychedelics described in this video are limited to the narrow field of remedial medical application. While this is a valid, ethical, and desirable use of psychedelics, their true potential actually lies in their monumental planet-changing ability to reconnect society with spirit. 10:42 - "So the key point is that these are not party drugs; they're incredibly powerful substances that should be treated with respect, as they have been, by certain cultures for hundreds, if not thousands of years." It's worth clarifying that psychoactive plants have been used for thousands if not tens of thousands of years.
8:55: "Depression is one of the leading causes of absenteeism in the workplace." I imagine, too, that the workplace (or rather over-work and stress, and lack of it in unemployment) is one the leading causes of depression? I think we need to look at our wider society, as well, to help eliminate these causes. Maybe a move towards a 4-day working week would help on many levels.
To be honest lack of a job is exactly what made my depression that much harder to get out of. Having no responsibilities feels good only after you've had some and you get to rest some. But if you rest all day every day, then that routine and monotony is making it worse. To me at least, just the word monotony makes me imagine how anhedonic and melancholic i would be
I’m fresh off a heroic dose, my first trip too. It was one of the most profound experiences I’ve ever had in my entire life and I will never forget it. It’s not an awakening it’s an understanding and you experience this all through feelings and emotions it’s not logical or rational. I definitely think I had an ego death of some sort. Maybe not complete ego death but the door was definitely swung open. I had a really good time but I don’t think I’ll need to do that again for a very long time.
That's what is called taking personal responsibility. I knew what I wanted, educated myself and now teach others the various systems for growing ones own. It is so simple a 15 year old can do it.
I've taken a few (maybe 5) LSD trips. On my most remarkable trip I realized I was communicating telepathically with my partner. So there's that. I also had a hand-to-hand combat with a satanic dragon. When the dragon was finally getting the better of me, I said, "Help me God!" and instantaneously the dragon was sucked away from me and I woke up startled. My partner said, "wow, you're strong." So there's that too. The experiences gave me me such deep realizations and changed my life forever.
Good presentation, but I think no one should tell anyone what they can and can't put into their own bodies. This shouldn't just be used on depressed persons, but also people that aren't.
Important to note, he states very clearly that the conditions have to be right for these drugs to work. In my youth I experimented with lsd a few times and while most trips were positive I had 2 bad trips that were the most terifying and traumatic experiences of my entire life. The preperation and environment have to be right or these drugs can be incredibly dangerous. As he says, controlled environment and prepared patient. I look forward to the possibilities that this research may lead to.
I've always looked at LSD as a way to hit the reset button on my brain. When I'm losing my direction or feel like life has lost its magic i know its time to be reminded. Like life, if you are respectful, appreciative and have good intentions you never have anything to fear :) oh.....and aviod mixing with other substances until come down, this ensures clarity during journey :)
Funny thing is that the most advanced civilizations had psycadhelics infused in they re culture, egyptians being the best proof, having created most of the bases we use in mathematics
Thanks Robin! The imaging research has been very impressive and if it gets people interested in psychedelic therapies, it is the best thing in 50 years!
Have anyone ever studied how psychedelic (sorry for bad english)works for people who are blind? I mean will they see tings with their minds eyes? Just qurious Also would it mean if they then can tripp visually, for people who have been blind from birth to see colours for the first time in their life.
Meditation lifts the veil for me, but it took a 10 day course, without speaking to lose my monkey mind. there are many ways to get there, but it's nice to know their is another one on the way. Depression is no fun. thanks to everyone who is working towards helping those suffering. Depression is like drowning in 2 feet of water...if they knew they could just stand up and stop drowning, but the mind is so powerful, it can sometimes make us think we are in an ocean as opposed to 2 feet of water.
Andrzej Pała it might help, at the end of the day though psilocybin more so allows you to help yourself, psychedelics set you on a path and aid you in creating your own change, they don’t do it for you. If a trip is to succeed it’s gotta come from within
SSRI anti-depressants, psychotherapy and CBT do not alleviate my despair. I am acquainted with and know of many other people who are as aware of and are as affected by the things which contribute to my despair. Despite that, those people can still effectively and productively cope with life. I would very much like the opportunity to try psilocybin. At this point it could do little harm, and would be much better than the other alternative.
I was in the worst place I had ever been in my life and lsd cures my depression, anxiety, and insomnia and gave me inner peace and enlightenment and helped me tremendously in how I go through life and as an artist.
In my experience, it was more important to integrate it with meditation with mindfulness, and I am depression free and baseline peaceful and happy now for some years =)
These psychedelic states have been reached by people for thousands of years through daily meditation. Buddha was one of these people, and ANYONE can do it, just meditate ❤✌️
My first "trip" felt like decades of positive therapy. I felt ALIVE for the first time in my post childhood life. The effects lasted for a loooong time. And I only relapsed because of my incredibly toxic social environment, and economic situation.
Beautiful y’all. I will certainly be researching more into your work. These substances are extremely underrated and given a bad stigma dated back to the 60’s. Mushrooms have recently helped me much like yourself with awakening to many of life’s true meanings. Thank you
You should watch the Movie Fantastic Fungi. Louis Schwartzberg and Paul Stamets give us a glimpse into the power of mushrooms. It is unbelievable what nature can do when we work with it.
depression is coursed by involuntarily being subjected to a life of 8 hours of work you do not like, told to think contrary to your intuition and to be accepting of the unacceptable.
Sugarsail1 you know you can take the works of more than one great mind and use them right? You don’t have to exclusively use the works of jung or Freud or any number of others, you have the benefit of the largest compendium of human knowledge ever created at your fingertips.
i am a grand master of LSD - people would invite me to parties to keep things under control incase some one had a bad trip i would help them on the journey - which can be amazing -usually using visual stimulus -
I hate this riduclous stigma against partying or having fun, on or off psychdelics! What insane a culture we live in when having fun is looked at as negative.
im very hesitant. ive done dmt and lsd and those definitely opened my mind, but it's scary to think about, losing temporary consciouisness from 'reality' but i want to try shrooms for the first time. possibly with my father whom ive grown closer to. i think it might be a good experience?
Big G shrooms can be recreational but I find it is not a recreational and If you push your luck it will tell you off sooner or later. If you do use it recreational treat it with respect and also go into it with intention to learn. But to answer you question I do not thing it will be available for recreational use because I is SO much more than that.
Why can't we just allow people to do this already? Why are magic mushrooms still illegal? Alcohol is a known depressant and you can drink as much as you want, it makes no sense, I'm so tired of bureaucracy, just legalise it already, we the depressed don't have forever to wait.
drugs or plants or chemicals to me, are tools just like guns, or baseball bats, can be used for good and also bad, they are a kind of safety net to help us....
The burning question I have is this: do the things we encounter during psychedelic experiences have any reality independent of our mind, or are they constructs of our brains with no independent reality? I have had a bizarre, incredible experience after drinking ayahuasca, when a feminine entity showed me how compassion is the goal of my life. Who is she, is she real or did my brain construct her? How is it possible that my brain could construct the visuals I saw, but then, how is it possible for other dimensions to exist without being discovered by us? I’m very confused, I’m a scientist and always dismissed this kind of talk as rubbish, but after drinking ayahuasca I can’t help thinking that we know nothing, and that there is something beautiful and incredible going on behind the scenes.
Honestly! Then again, this is factual while Graham Hancock's was more... "Hey dudes and dudettes this was my gnarly experience". I absolutely love Graham Hancock's war on consciousness, don't get me wrong. It's just that there was no facts behind it although he was absolutely right about everything!
Shane Samaranayake I mean it shouldn’t matter, there are tons of spiritual based ted talks out there, and as a musician I can say a bunch of the musical ted talks are... questionable or light in the actual fact department. There shouldn’t be a discrepancy like that just because it’s based on drugs, which reveals the constant underlying bias in drug coverage, where it is held to stricter standards as to what is ok or not Sheryl based on stigma
Psychedelics have helped me immensely with depression. I never would believe that I have been one to abuse them. The times in my life I have used them were dark and depressing times and psychedelics have, like Robin had said, "Lifted the veil". They allow me to unearth the repressed thoughts, memories, and emotions, and face them head on, and being cognizant of what is happening to be able to somewhat psychoanalyze myself. Much like a dream, what is unearthed is abstract and symbolic, and it is import to be able to decipher the experience into what it actually means in real terms, as to say actualize and realize the experience. I would be so happy to see psychedelics become more available in methods of treatment and medicinal use Western medicines.
Timothy Timer hi Timothy , nice to know u benefitted from it greatly. I suffer from depression and Ocd symptoms and I want to try magic mushrooms as a lot of people with these conditions have recovered with mushrooms. I take Ssri drug which do help me, but they still don't allow me to tap the subconscious and they have the foggy feeling and a kind of numb feeling which I don't like at all. I wanted to how long the effects of mushrooms lasted for you? In studies it showed 6-14 months. In some of testimonials I read in forums people had different long term effects , for some just 3-4 doses knocked out their depression/Ocd for life...while for others they had symptoms returned(mild and not severe) after 6-8 months and needed to dose mushrooms again to be fully relieved. And another 5-10% who didn't benefit from it. As such 90% people with depressive and anxiety response getting positive response is unheard of and simply amazing. I would be interested to know how mushrooms impacted you long term, and what was the last time you took it and how much recovered on a scale of 1-10 would you say? I hope magic mushrooms help me and make me free from the Ssri drug and it's daily dosing.
Ahmed Rb I cannot really advise you. We are all different. I would recommend to you to consult with a health care professional about your intentions and desires. In the end it is your choice however. My experience with mushrooms was out of curiosity and I had no desired effect from them. The experience was insightful, uplifting, and at times it was somewhat depressing. The importance is to be able to decipher the experience much like you would a dream. Realizing the symbolic nature of these experiences is what I believe will truly help you dissolve any traumas. It's not like you just take a substance and voila, you are cured. It is a process and takes focus and awareness to reconstruct the symbolic nature of the experience and what it means to you, and in doing so you are able to "see" how and what needs to be changed. These are not substances to be abused, and it is indeed one of the major reasons they are repressed, shunned, and misunderstood by most cultures. I don't want to sound lecturing but I think that is something important to think about and understand before jumping to the conclusion that psychedelics will be the cure all end all. Anyway, in my experiences I tend to agree that the profound positive long term effects are invaluable to those suffering. It's also not like you can dose psychedelics after work and be cured, and just go about your life as you were the next day. It is important to be in the healthy and open mindset and environment to begin the journey. Treat it like you would a vacation in a sense. Allow yourself time to prepare and time to unfold and recollect yourself afterwards through reflection and understanding. It is also important to have someone you are comfortable to talk about the experience with for support. Someone non judgemental, and that will only truly listen to you and walk you through any confusion of the journey. In any word, I wish you the best peace and understanding in your journey. Know that everything is temporary.
Timothy Timer Thanks for your honest and insightful reply. As you used just out of curiosity, did it help you in Cognitive tasks like studying, at work, focus and do critical reasoning better. In research it showed the Brain regions which previously were unable to communicate are able to start communicate after taking psilocybin mushroom. Did you in a way feel Mental blocks removed from your mind which might have been there earlier. I am not seeking for a cure, just want to see if it can help my mind function at higher level , ease many of depressive and anxiety symptoms and get peace of mind. I noticed you mentioned Psychedelics helped you overcome depression in your first comment, hence I asked you how it really helped and in what mental factors you improved .
Next time I trip I will have bought my substance from a smiling pharmacist in a system where we view drugs in a sane manner. LSD saved my life but each square of blotter paper bought off a stranger that bought it off an even stranger stranger could contain dangerous substances even if there's LSD or another indole there to pass the most common testing kit. No more illicit drugs for me, my life is to precious to me. I say that as someone who has wished I hadn't been born and would frequently mutter "I hate myself" as my comforting mantra. I wanted to die, more than anything else. And now I want to live as much as possible and help other people live too. I will spend my extra time and resources that I used to pour into substance abuse to try and kill my emotions on learning more about substances so I can be a confident advocate that is truly advocating for these substances because of how they can help people and not just because I think it would make for a cheaper and more convenient high for me.
I would very much like to see the results of research where the dosages were more in the order of 100mg, rather than 15mg. My own take on this is that the so called cures are simply the side effects of encountering a far deeper understanding of reality and to actually to take the process to a level where there is complete ego dissolution and entry into unity consciousness would in fact have significantly greater effects. The ego is an artificial construct and, once this is grokked with sufficient depth, the automatic cycles that it engages in of rummaging through negative material and memories become irrelevant in the face of the comprehension of the underlying oneness of existence.
