@@TaewillsI agree. I have mental health issues and have been hospitalised a number of times for it, so I don’t say this lightly - people is not responsible for their crime due to a psychiatric disease should not be released from a secured psychiatric treatment unit until a team of psychiatrists clear them of being a danger to themselves or others. There shouldn’t be a time limit. To be fair, that’s how I feel about how all prison sentences. That prisoners should be given a minimum sentence and after they have served the time they should still need to be assessed by a team with at least one criminal profiler to ensure they don’t pose a danger to others after release, based on their prison reports, face to face interview and psych testing. If this isn’t affordable, then this should at least be done for sexually motivated, sadistic or violent crimes. How many times have we heard of serial r@pists and murderers to have been released early from prison or was given too short sentences.

This gave me flash backs. A few years ago I was taking my co worker home and there was an overwhelming amount of smoke by the dental office we worked at. So she said to go to it. I didn’t really want to cuz I didn’t wanna be in the way of firefighters. But we live in a small town and about 150 people were gathered around this house in flames. We parked at a strip mall and walked over a couple blocks to see what was going on. A mother was screaming that her daughter and niece were in the house still. The mother was a hoarder inside and outside so nobody could go save the girls. They were in the attic in her room and the smoke killed them. Flames were blowing out windows. All we could do was watch and listen to the mom screaming for her only daughter. She was a girl I went to school with and had classes with. We never talked but we were both shy introverts. She passed away along with her cousin. Any time I hear a house fire story now I think of them and relive those moments staring at the house hoping for a miracle. Hearing the moms begging pleads. It was a heart breaking night

Feel like this patient was incurably hateful, proven by the fact that his own family knew better than to be in his presence. I feel he was incapable of letting go and forgiving and moving on from that soul bitterness. I believe he will carry that over into his next life and be just as miserable. Hopefully learn from it next time.

I’ve seen probably over 20 psychologists, therapists and psychiatrists so far in my life, met dozens of other psych patients while I was in hospital who shared their experiences with their treating clinicians, and I have never heard of a mental health clinician like Dr Nishizawa. The world lost an incredibly bright star that day. I am so glad that his sister decided to train and take up his mission, and I hope that many patients will have the opportunity to be treated by her and by their teacher. Dr Nishizawa should be included in psych curriculums around the world as a role model of what a mental health clinician should strive to be like. RIP Dr Nishizawa. 😔

"Don't isolate the isolated" didn't apply in this case right? He had a lot of support and concern from people (work, clinic, and family at one point).

Sadly, the truth is you can't help who doesn't want to be helped. "Don't isolate the isolated" is all good in theory, but no one isolated this arsonist but himself. He quit his job, which he was passionate about and enjoyed, he cut ties with his brother and never rekindled that relationship, he tried to kill his own son, so why would his ex-wife ever want to get anywhere near him? People tried to reach out to him at the beginning, but he shut them out. Then, his own destructive behavior pushed the rest away because why would anyone put themselves in harms way? At the end of the day, we all want to live and we will not approach those who seem suspicious or dangerous. I don't think "Don't isolate the isolated" applies in this situation.

This is so sad. I’m so glad Stephanie took the time to talk about the doctor and his legacy. It makes me so angry and sad that such a person who did so much for so many was taken just like that. It’s so incredibly selfish to harm innocent ppl because you can’t come to term with your own reality. Mental health is a tough battle sometimes. I get that. sometime you are trapped in your own mind, but to choose to bring down “as many ppl as you can with you” when they literally did nothing but trying to help you is so selfish and cowardice. Even in death you can’t face yourself alone, just like how you can’t face your own life and decisions when you’re alive. You harm innocent ppl bc you have no one else to blame but yourself and you’re too cowardice to face that. I can sympathize with feeling alone and hopeless but it’s just plain evil and selfish to turn that into an excuse to harm others. How many more ppl could the doctor have saved if he was alive? In a world that desperately needs peace, you choose to target the one place desperate ppl come to find it. UGH I haven’t cried so much listening to story in a while. It’s just such a senseless act happened to such kind ppl.

Its insane how common it is for men who want to off themselves to choose family annihilation with it, which I would say has some link to the fact that most mass shooters are lonely suicidal men. Something about the aggression most cultures allow/enable men to foster must have some bearing on the psychology of believing your suffering entitles others to suffer, as women who attempt family annihilation are most commonly suffering from some sort of post-partum psychosis.

What is the logic of sentencing “failed murder” as less than murder. It means nothing whether the victim is dead or not, it’s about the intent, and if someone really had the intention and it failed, why would they not try again?

Wow, such a heartbreaking case. I greatly appreciate you talking about stories others don't often speak of. At the end, you mentioned not isolating the isolated. As sad as it is, I truly think it would have been dangerous for anyone to be around this man. He clearly wanted to take his own life but was too cowardly to go out alone. Anyone that surrounded him would have been a target. Thank you for sharing this story.

Everything that stephanie shares really hits my soul, she just doesnt tell you a story, she puts her heart onto that story and tell it to you with a very strong emotions. I felt the pain stabbing onto my chest every single time she tells a devastating story, I really admire that strength of yours stephanie ❤️. about the case, all I can say is life might be hard but the thought of giving up and thinking that "oh this is the same people who are living the same miserable life as I do thats why theyre here, let me help them" in a way of taking their lives just to justify that your action is right, but in the end of the day people are forced to move on and grieve about what happened without being able to do somethinh about it. I just hope it gets better and people just live differently... Loneliness might be one of the contribution, but let us remember the reason why some people are lonely, its because they deserve it. Please if a person opens a door for you to step into their home, do not take advantage of it. If you really want a good life for yourself... please build good and safe connection for everyone to be in.

this case is honestly heartbreaking, to think about all the people who were in that fire and all the families who suffered for there lost is just heart wrenching. bless that doctors heart it’s really sad he passed away, he seemed like the type of person who would have done anything to help others put others life before his own, as a person who struggles with mental health and depression and self harm, having a good doctor, psychiatrist or even a therapist can make a huge impact. so I feel so much for the patients and losing there support system because I lost my support system. i feel terrible for all of them, it’s very sad none of them ever got closure.
