Psychological first aid - look, listen, link 

Psychological first aid is based on the five principles of promoting safety, calm, connectedness, self-efficay and group efficacy and hope. It's a way to help someone in an acute, difficult situation. Partly by avoiding new, difficult events and partly by strengthening the person's ability to handle it himself/herself.
