I also think what made the MJ and Garfield Spidey scene so special was that she asks him if HE'S okay afterward, because even in the midst of her own brush with death, she didn't forget that he lost the woman he loved just as much as her Peter loves her, and he NEEDED someone to ask him that. No one ever asked him if he was okay back in his world because who could? Who would know? He had to live with that in his head for years.

The crying when he’s holding Gwen felt so real because it was ugly, it was breathy, everything that seems unattractive but so raw and heart wrenching because everyone has cried like that at least once. Just brutal

Andrew actually said the “Are you okay?” Line was very important because in that moment all Peter could see was Gwen’s body he’s holding, and he needs MJ to tell him did it to make sure he actually did it.

I almost ugly cried in the theater at Andrew asking Zendaya, "Are you okay?" Andrew pulled his soul out for that line, and, as a fan, I couldn't be more grateful to him. The No Way Home film gave fans what they wanted, but I think it gave Andrew what he *needed*: closure on his initial arc as Spider-Man/Peter Parker. He has been growing as a person, actor, and human being since then, and his reservoir of emotion he can pull from has only gotten deeper.

I really appreciate what I think is Tom Holland physically reacting to the "She was my MJ line". It looked as if, after a pause, he starts breathing harder, I could almost hear his heart rate change processing his current grief and the thought of losing MJ too. Knowing there is a literal universe where that happened, where he loses her.

You guys missed something... When Andrew saves MJ in No Way Home... He used his aerodynamics to grab a hold of MJ instead of relying on his webs, unlike the last time when he tried to do with Gwen(which inevitably causes Gwen's death) . It wasn't until he grabs hold of MJ, that he uses his webs to slow their descent down safely. This level of details shows how much introspection and grief the character actually would've gone/been through... To correct their tiniest of tiniest mistakes and taking more variables(such as stretching of the web string in Amazing Spider man 2) into account. For a redemption arc, and it honestly does an incredible job on that.

"The costume represents something [...]. In those two days you understand it is an honor, and people dream to be in that position." This is actually a sentiment that I always respected about the cosplay community when it comes to kids at conventions. All cosplayers seem to have this unspoken understanding that there are certain costumes you put on that require an unbreakable illusion for kids. I still remember the story about the Daenerys cosplayer who was mistaken for Elsa by a kid and immediately jumped into the role, and how a nearby Anna cosplayer played along and even helped them quickly braid their wig, all because kids kept coming up thinking she was Elsa. I think that's one of my favorite aspects of seeing movies made about superheroes, that idea of getting to bring that symbol to life for people in a very real way.

Andrew Garfield is such a world class actor - the scene with Gwen is an absolute stunner and regardless of what you think of the quality of the films themselves the brilliance of his acting ALWAYS manages to find a place to shine through in every single one BTW Omar was wonderful guest - lovely insights and well spoken. I would love to have him back for any of these in the future

You know he was so robbed of this incredible story of overcoming loss and grief because Sony just doesn't know how to handle Spider-Man. The MCU isn't perfect, sometimes their movies are too formulaic, but they did help with the Home trilogy and Spider-Man was redeemed in a lot of ways because of it. And I'd love to see a movie with a not so friendly Spider-Man. One that's darker, one that's tired, one that's just...kind of done. Peter SUFFERS in his life. The man can't seem to catch a break. But even despite all that, he gets up. He keeps going. And that's what I love about Spider-Man. He's us. Just with powers. But in the end, he's just....us.

The thing I love about the MJ rescue scene in NWH is that he rescued her differently from how he tried to rescue Gwen (which incidentally matched how he had rescued Jack, the kid, from a similar fall - ie worked once, should work again - but it didn't). To me that says that since ASM2 he has been thinking about her death and what he could've done differently to save her - how else he might've tried to rescue her -> which he then used when rescuing MJ. Also yeah, spider-flu is one of my favorite scenes...

Andrew Garfield was the most powerful Spiderman for me. I never understood why it became cool to hate him. He has the best redemption story line I've ever seen. I loved this episode. "Real heroism is 'I'm going to keep doing the right thing, and I'm going to keep being kind. And I'm not going to lose my decency just because I'm getting the s*** kicked out of me.'"

26:05 if you didn't cry from this scene then we have nothing to talk about. In a movie that was centered around Dr. Strange, Tom Holland's Spiderman, and a reality warping spell breaking the multiverse they managed to give Andrew Garfield's Spiderman quite possibly the most deserved moment in modern cinema. He got to save the girl. I'm crying typing this out and I hope this scene never stops making me cry.

I love that Alan can cry and be like "it's totally ok". And sometimes when he cries I cry too. I love the chemistry between these guys. And I also love to hear their opinions on different movies 😄

As awesome as the “it’ll make you strong” psychological reason for having the little boy put the mask on is, I can’t help but also think it’s a great way to provide a makeshift layer of smoke inhalation prevention without freaking the kid out anymore. If that was something that at all crossed the filmmakers’ minds, that’s a cool detail.

Honestly, that scene where he saves MJ is also a redemption moment for his lifelong regret of not saving Gwen - he gets a second shot at saving the girl and this time he gets it right. Sometimes we can learn to forgive ourselves by being able to help someone else in the same situation where we previously failed ourselves. It doesn't fix the past, but it gives us hope for the future.

When I watched Andrew's spider-man movies, I was impressed against my will. That part when he's just devasted after Gwen's death, it hurt me too. It was beautifully acted by both actors (Emma and Andrew), because I grieve for the loss of a brilliant soul and that Pete had lost so much. Later reading a bunch of fanfics, I realized that's Pete's quality: how good he remains even after tragedies.

I've been severely depressed as of late, but that Gwen speech... God, it hit me really hard. It's exactly what I needed to hear right now. Also, "... every time it happens, you are given a choice, and the choice is to fall down or get up, or to stay down or get up. And every single time you have to make that decision. Honestly, I feel like Andrew's Spider-Man is the one whose story is least resolved, because while I do agree with what you said in the scene where he saved MJ, I think it also shows the signs of him still not being over it, because of how easily he did save her, it was so quick and sudden with how quickly she was out of danger, and then it lingers, I think that emotion behind his part of the scene is also a little bit of thinking about how easy it could have been to save her, and I get the feeling from the scene that he's thought about all the little mistakes he made thousands of times and how he could've done things differently, and then possibly feeling like he proved himself right when he saved Zendaya MJ, with also that little hint of closure. But besides just that, I also get the feeling that if we see more of him in the MCU, or his own continuation movie, that we'd see a lot more of him overcoming and managing his anger, and gradually learning to love again with his own MJ, as it's hinted at in the lab scene, that he's the only one who doesn't have an MJ, I think it'd be tough to find the right casting for an MJ for Andrew Spidey, specifically one that wouldn't just constantly be compared to Emma Stone's Gwen, but it'd be nice to see this character, if not have a happy ending, then at least move to a happier and healthier place in his life, as it seems to be implied that he's the only one who never really got that, when even Tobey's Spidey did, after everything that happened and how low he went in Spider-Man 3, it'd be nice to see a good depiction of a story that's closer to what Spidey had in the comics, which is he loses Gwen and after a grieving period, grows to love again with MJ, as it'd be an opportunity to explore how difficult it is to open up again after losing a loved one, and also show the healing process, and how reconnecting with people can be a very healthy way of dealing with grief, even if there isn't a follow up romance. I mean, think about it, Andrew's Spidey, is the only one who has no outlet or anyone to trust with the information that he's Spider-Man, not since Gwen, and I don't recall, but I'm fairly sure I don't remember his Aunt May knowing anything about or figuring out his secret. I think the perfect way to wrap his character up in a healthy way, would be learning to balance reconnecting with people, with super-hero life. But that's just me.

I'm a massive fan of Tom's Spider-man. I love pretty much everything they've done with that franchise. That being said, there will always be something about Andrew's portrayal of that character that is so so special. I think it has to do with the emotion and range he gave in those two films. He's my favorite Spider-man for sure.

The moment I finished watching TASM I realised Andrew is my favourite spiderman and TASM is favourite spiderman movie. I still don't know now why some people had hated it . The way Andrew connects emotionally with us through his acting is amazing. I call him the emotional spider-man. And man.. Emma's acting was fantanstic . The whole performance of Andrew when Gwen died in his arms oh god , that had me bawling my eyes out. I wanna give him an oscar for that scene.

"Yes, you can... Put on the mask, Jack" Remember, one of the most poignant things about the character has been that whole psychology of the mask... "Spiderman can be *ANYONE* ..." .Working it into the scene this way is honestly a bit of a tearjerker to me.

And honestly, having Omar get choked up at one point along with Alan's tears sent me over the emotional cliff. All three of you were so great in this episode. This is what we love about you guys. In no way home I think there are a couple of powerful moments. Like Andrew's spiderman saving MJ and Toby's spiderman standing in front of green goblin. I do like how each spiderman has that different but similar heavy moments. It pushes them forward. I do like how when Stan Lee first came up with him people weren't sure it was going to sell.

Andrew Garfield has always been my favorite of the Spider Men and it is everything to have his performance and these movies reviewed and praised by the Internet Dads. His acting is so poignant and he radiates joy in the suit.

I haven't watched the andrew garfield movies since they came out but watching no way home instantly brought back such strong emotions. Really crazy how evocative his performance is years later

Spider-Man taught me no matter how great the pain, you keep moving.. Hope's not something everyone can hold on to, there's some situations where it's back to back levels of hell but if you just keep going eventually you'll come to a better place. Anyone can be Spidey under the mask but it takes an extreme level of resilience to keep the faith that it'll get better and that's why I love the character so much.

While the TASM movies had their problems, I love how this was able to draw out some of the best parts of both the filmmaking, the acting, and the writing. Having grown up reading Spider-man in the 80's, I had a pretty solid grasp on it all, so when Gwen had her fall in the clocktower, I knew what was coming. I also knew it was necessary as the tragedy added a few important things to the world here. It showed he couldn't always win. Bad things can still happen to a hero no matter how hard he tries. And overcoming the loss and grief built character in how he perceived being a superhero. To that end, Andrew Garfield did an outstanding job with the role. As a "Peter Parker" he did the best he could, though the writing wasn't great. As Spider-man he was phenomenal. As the balance between the two I have no complaints and we saw just how amazing (pun intended) an actor he was with the right material for No Way Home. He deserved all the accolades and more.

So since we are talking about masks and costumes. I am a cosplayer and I can't deny that every time i put on a costume or the mask of it, it really does change your way of being a little. Like the guy said you stand up taller. You feel more free, more out of your shell. For me it makes me leagues more confident and assured of myself to be in costume especially when it's a character that is a confident person. It's truly a spectacular feeling and thing that happens

That moment when Andrew's Peter saves MJ is E V E R Y T H I N G. It's the perfect kind of bookend for the character, it's his redemption (in his own eyes, because nobody else would have blamed him), it's just such a perfect moment for him. And Andrew plays it FLAWLESSLY. I weep every single time.

I love the fact you guys are reacting to Spider-Man, specifically Andrew's Spider-man, because to me he was the most realistic in the sense he was a bit more relatable. Especially with how Andrew delivered his performance as Spider-Man so well, yet was overlooked because of some of the writing. I still feel like he deserved to have a part 3 of his Spider-Man just to show us what truly happened to him after he lost Gwen, granted it was hinted but there's def. something more there.

Ever since I saw both ASM in theaters Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man has been my favorite, and one I could personally relate to, not with superheroics or loss, but with his peter’s personality and mannerisms. I’m so happy people giving him his due now and recognizing his impact. Also, as 30 year old male it makes me feel good seeing grown men shed tears and know it’s ok. It’s ok, to feel emotionally charged with something you like and express oneself. It always felt “taboo” when I’d tear up during this stuff, because that’s “not what men do”. Thank you guys

All three actors who played Spider-Man are amazing in their own right. I think that Andrew Garfield has always been my favourite due to his comedic timing and acting chops. Most of his memorable lines were ad-libbed (tiny knives). I just think he had way too many villains to fight (always a bad sign, unless it's an ensemble) and was too "real in the feels" for people. Grief is difficult and we all deal with it in different ways. I also love the fact that all you guys were crying; that's how powerful and relatable it is. 22:25- you know, I've never really felt Spiderman was relatable to me before this. Usually you don't see the superheros loved ones abandon them or leave them for someone else, typically they would die in some tragic way. But this hit too close to home for me. After years of pain and emotional wreckage, eventually you’ll realize that people are the universal lifeline that inevitably will keep you alive. Helping people helps you survive.

Him actually dumping the popcorn on Omar in the end is such a dad thing. Like, the subtle "I'm just gonna escalate a little bit" thing made me chuckle.

This is far and away my favorite Spider-Man portrayal. Andrew nails both the quick humor and the real sense of sorrow that is under everything.

I love that MJ asked Andrew's Spiderman if he's okay when she saw his reaction.

The "Put on the mask, it'll make you strong" has a lot of the same energy as the lines in Spider-verse about "It always fits eventually" and "Anyone can wear the mask. *You* can wear the mask." Sometimes you just need that little confidence boost to get you going forward.

It’s doing the right thing even when it is hard. That’s what being a hero is. Standing alone to do good won’t always be the most popular but it’s what’s right.

Talking about regression, I remember something with The Punisher in the comics they did. They were showing what it was like in Veitnam for him. In there, him and his squad started getting a rep for men who went too far. They killed, did terrible things, were just absolutely brutal. So a new CO was brought in to try to bring them in line and they got frustrated with this CO constantly holding them back and threating punishment for what they were doing... so... they set him up so the enemy would have a clear shot at the CO and he would die. And it worked. Then Frank comments something like, "I can't wait to be out of this hell hole. Get back to my wife and just live normally again so I don't have to do this crap any more." It was, I think, a good set up in that it shows that Frank Castle was always a violent nut job who does what he thinks is right at the expense of others. It wasn't something that just came out of him when his wife and kid was killed but instead he repressed this inner monster when he was with them. Tried to be a normal person. But when what grounded him was destroyed... he went back to that monster again and started doing like he used to back in 'nam.

Shout out to Cinema Therapy. You guys are just the right amount of logical and emotional that I need right now. With the state of the world right now and so many crazy, scary, sad things happening in the US, having a little mental health time by watching movies with you helps me to have some hope in our future. Thank you for all the hard work you do and stay well. Also, I know it might be a swing in the dark, but my favorite movie of all time is Inherit the Wind made in 1960. There are a ton of themes in that film that I’m shocked to see still prevalent today, so it would be interesting to see both of your takes on it. Not to mention I think it has some of the best acting I’ve ever seen. Alan is right when he says the best visual effects are the actors faces because that is 90% of the movie and it’s amazing. Andrew is my favourite Spider-Man. Always has been, always will be. I’m conflicted that now people are finally starting to appreciate him after No Way Home. I’m glad but also frustrated. I think “where the hell were you lot when he was getting unfairly criticised left right and centre?!”

The Amazing Spiderman will always be one of my favorites bc it's not just an origin story of how he got his powers but also of how he actually became a hero and used them for good. The spiderman journey and motivation has resonated with me since I was a kid reading boy's life in the 90s. I get all the feels with the loss of Gwen Stacy due to losing my first relationship to self demise so y'all covering this character and the emotional journey really validates the rage I fought and still find echos of in my life today.

"We must be greater than what we suffer." Funny enough, that line was supposed to be given by Lizard in the first Amazing Spider-man film.

Watching Gwen's death always brings me to the brink of tears. It's my go-to for when I want to be depressed. And I was as close to crying as Amazing Peter was when he saved MJ at the Statue of Liberty. Just watching those few seconds here had tears welling up in my eyes. Andrew acted the hell out of both of those scenes.

Grief and loss is such a hard thing to dealt with. I lost my six year old cat last week and it left a huge emptiness inside. I remember I was working in a gaming store and my boss was a huge Spiderman fan, we connected over comicbooks. He was teased for liking Amazing Spiderman by almost everyone but me. We just connected and it created such an amazing workplace for gamers and comic book nerds. So many inside jokes happened and that movie gave me an amazing friend, who I have adored to this day his actions and caring nature was so very Spiderman without being a physical hero. He was still a hero to me and saved me so many times.

Andrew Garfield did a talk show after his mother died and he said something that has stuck with me: Grief is unexpressed love. It stuck with me because it’s such a beautiful way to deal with something that can be so horrible.

You have to see that aunt may was amazing in this as well. She didn't suddenly decide to put Ben's things away right then. She saw her surrogate son suffering from a loss and instead of talking to him about it and giving platitude or saying I know what you're feeling and trying to relate; she does something. She thinks what does Peter need to learn or hear and how can I relay that to him, by doing it herself. There was no way she was thinking about putting Ben's things away until then. Her grief for his death was still ongoing and by stepping up and being peters mother figure she helps in her own healing as well as his.

Wierd connection but this video helped me a bit. When you said that you can't get stuck in the grief and you have to put it where it belongs, I think I needed to hear that. My boyfriend left for navy bootcamp 3 weeks ago but he's coming back in 5 weeks. He has been through so much hell, both medically and emotionally. I've been struggling with not being able to be there for him and not being able to see him. I suppose I need to move on with my life and do things to better myself instead of moping around feeling sorry for myself

I struggled with suicidal issues for years, and I'm always trying to be positive and trying to cope with this poison but my biggest inspiration is Spider-Man, a character who has more than enough reason to take his own life but he keeps getting back up regardless, and I'm talking about all the spider people but Peter is who I connect with the most, so when I'm in those days where I'm hurting so much I watch the movies(all of them) and it helps so much.

I recently lost my grandpa after taking care of him fore the past couple of years due to alzheimers, he and my grandma were more of my parents since my real parents left me when I was born. So now that they're both gone, loads of memories I had of them raising me after looking at photos my grandma used to take when I was young came flooding in. The house is quiet now and I honestly feel empty. I wish they could've stayed longer but they grew older and weaker despite everything I did to take care of them. That feeling of "I could've did better take take care of my grampa" will linger till I die. Dealing with grief will take awhile but that scar will forever remain.

You know what hits home the most in this video? Whenever someone had tears in their eyes, Jonathan started laughing. One might call it classic therapist, but it's actually overcompensation, but that just on a sidenote. :3 great video as always
