I really like how after the Hollis incident, he consistently makes sure to ask for consent before entering minds.

I find it so interesting how Raz sees his father as this psychic-hating villain in the first game, when Augustus turns out to be probably the single most kind, understanding and compassionate character in the series, as far as I can tell. He goes through so much, all because a psychic messed with his mind, lied to him about his mother's fate, and supplanted her. It'd be entirely understandable if his wariness of psychics came in full force as a hatred for Ford, and yet... he can't bring himself to be angry with the man that messed with his family, because he knows how much Ford's been through. He can't be angry at his mother's killer, because he knows she's the one who suffered most. Instead, throughout the series, he reconciles with Raz, encourages him on the path he wants to take, and despite everything, becomes open minded to his nature as a psychic, and thus other psychics, and while he admits that he needs to let it all simmer and sort it out in his mind, he's ready to accept Nona as part of the family after everything that happened, happy to get over the trauma of the water curse that haunted his family for so many years, and is optimistic about the future. I wish we could all have our own Augustus in our lives.

I love how the entire story of all 3 games takes place in like, a week

I like how Raz fixes and brings back all the legendary psychomasters, even brings one back from the dead, and defeats Maligula once and for all. Yet they only give him junior Psychonaut status. ...lol

Watching the game like this, I realize how much of a wildcard Raz really is. His mental fortitude is represented both in the story and in the game mechanics. In cutscenes, the other kids all lose their mental projections in one hit, while both in-game and in cutscenes, Raz can take several. No wonder Oleander says his brain is "armored like a tank" in the first game. But this also explains his very unusually mature and mentally strong behavior for a 10-year-old child. And it's funny how if you link his in-game strength with his behavior in the story, it actually makes sense due to the Psychonauts universe's weird internal logic. lol.

Psychonauts :1; was released in 2005. Psychonauts: In The Rhombus Of Ruin; released 12 years later on 2017. Psychonauts: 2; released on 2021 4 years later, but between 1 & 2 it was 16 years. However within the timeline of the Psychonauts' world, these three games only THREE DAYS passed.

I love the cinematic parallel at 5:06:46 where Raz's legs nervously shake like that. In the first game, Lily had that same reaction when Raz showed up at camp all cool and mysterious-like. She always had a crush on him, but for a while, she was afraid to admit it. Now, all throughout RoR and 2, Raz is the one who's nervous about their relationship and it reveals he's really just a softie who has no idea what he's doing. To be fair, they are literally 10, so dating is gonna feel all new and weird for a pretty long time.

Helmut's arc is honestly breath taking. It made me cry. That alone could be an amazing movie

1:42:33 I don't know why, but for some reason this is among my favorite scenes from the game. You did something terrible and you have to get the parental lecture, not angry shouting, just a calm explanation of what you did wrong and why it was wrong, made me feel like a kid again and I'm really glad the game treats Raz as a kid who have still much to learn. Also love 4:51:31 , I was waiting everyone to be afraid of her or being ready to fight her, but instead everyone went and hugged her as Lucy, an old friend, not as Maligula, the old enemy. Warmed even my cold heart. This game is awesome and there are more scenes that I loved, but these 2 stuck with me long after I finished the game completely.

It's amazing to see how Raz is becoming more and more like Sasha like using his old psycho-portal, wearing his clothes and becoming more and more serious

You know I'm ok if we don't get another sequel after this. It tied up all the plot threads and questions we had at the end of the first game. Truman is safe, we know what happened to Ford's mind, we saw Raz's family, discovered the origins of the family water curse, and Raz successfully became a Psychonaut at long last. It would be a satisfying note to end the series on. Would be nice to confirm them retrieving Helmut's body.

Love how in the fight against that Truheltia plant (4:46:08), the one thing that gets Bob to start fighting back against the moth is the sheer gall of that inner demon to suggest that Helmut never really loved him. He doesn't even hesitate to reject the very notion despite being both depressed AND seriously drunk! Now THAT is true love!

A kids game for adults. Explains so much about mental health and learning to cope with it. Learned so much from this video game.

Honestly I really like the bad mood enemies because it’s concept matches real life almost perfectly: Having to see from their perspective to see what is causing them to be in a mood and by fixing what is causing someone to be in a bad mood, it can go away quite fast

I find the Helmut and Bob storyline to be nice and wholesome. They seem really happy together, and it makes me sad that after of what happened to Helmut, they were each alone in their lives. Makes me happy to see them come back to each other after finishing up in Bob's mind. :)

After a while, you kind of forget that this takes place on earth with a bunch of normal ass humans roaming around, we just focus on the humans with abnormal abilities.

1:44:00 - Okay, I know Raz missing with Hollis' mind was partly or even mostly his fault, but he was also peer pressured by those rotten kids, as well as only wanting to change her mind on one thing about her thoughts on the mission, not completely break her and warp her personality... Those kids should be punished too, as well as maybe have Raz explaining what he actually intended, and maybe be lectured on just how far of a stretch messing with someone's mind can actually do, instead of just being warned or reprimanded in general, or... something... Like, please have something like that happen. T_T I'm going to be kind of pissed otherwise...

I'll admit, the part with Nona in the family circus, hearing the "Meat Circus" theme again was both nostalgic and foreboding

I really do have to praise this game for it's absolute thoughtfulness in how coding its allegories, especially on its nuance with neurodivergence. I recently replayed this with my wife and was blown away by the character dynamic of Compton Boole and Cassie O'Pia. I'm A high functioning ASD, and she has ADHD. We both related deeply with them individually and as a dynamic. Boole is a perfect representation of someone overwhelmed by autistic burnout to the point of shutdown. To him, all social expectations of others seem like a bottomless cup he must fill, where the rules are contrived and everything is judgment. He understands animals almost perfectly compared to other people, yet at the same time it's not that he isn't able to pay attention to them and how they feel, its that he can't not. It's all so overblown and loud all the time, and everything is somehow a constant rush. Yet in the end he realizes, this was all a big game he was making the rules of and holding himself by. He was projecting and not choosing his own pace and boundaries. He finally take charges of his own needs, slows down, and gains back his confidence. Cassie on the other hand is a like anyone who use ADHD in their career until being quite literally held hostage by it. She's a compulsive high performer who's praised aspects can hijack her needs. Starting out she felt that she had channeled herself into these productive personas as a means to survive. But long after the situations change, she still found herself thinking every job needs a hammer even to cut a board because it's too dangerous not to be "useful" to others somehow. At the core of it all is this fear that she isn't actually just good enough to simply be liked as herself, so she digs deeper into more and more "productive" distractions. She learns to integrate all aspects as valid and can then emotionally regulate beyond the needs of others. Both mental archetypes are direct foils. Both compliment each other to discover their neglected needs while challenging healthy growth. This isn't the only way they knocked it out of the park of course, I could write the same praises for the whole game. it's just that good. I'm very happy this sequel was actually made in the end. So much love both behind, and for it.

Whole game felt like one massive trip. Also, love how you add a bit of gameplay at the right moments, make it more authentic as a game movie.

I've never been like "an actual gamer" or whatever they call it (I just happened to play random games sometimes) but Psychonauts is like the only game series I'm like actually invested in from beginning to end, especially the sequel. I pretty much went to from playing the first and straight to the second within a month because I'm a new fan but I'm sure for all those who waited the 16 years can say the wait was worth it. Psychonauts 2 had me at the edge of my seat since the moment I turned it on and currently it's my favorite game I've ever played

The Hollis mission bothers me. The other interns screwed with Raz and pushed him and saw no consequences. Raz owned up to his part though.

Some hints as to the moles identity I found throughout the game, (spoilers) In lobotomy labyrinthe, the chandelier in the bosses office resembles gristols crown. If you use clairvoyance on Truman(Gristol) while he's in his office, he sees raz as a peasent.

I give this game a rating from 9.5-10/10. The game is great, the combat is pretty dope too. But the only way to play it again would be to reset your progress which can be tedious if you had trouble getting to Rank 102. Speaking of, I think it’s a good idea to have unlimited power, but also feel it being the one thing preventing the idea of New Game Plus or just a boss rush mode. If they were to make it optional after getting the last upgrade like put it in the settings, that would be a lot better IMO. But besides that, the game’s story is actually pretty amazing and would even be a great setup to the next one or maybe even a DLC in addition to what I suggested. Overall, best Psychonauts game I played. It was a blast to play. Edit: Note that it was looking at it challenge wise, not narrative wise.

Psychonauts is without question the most underrated video game franchise of all time. The fact it has taken this long for a proper sequel and there’s no certain it will continue is should be a crime

Hollis and the interns are both in the wrong. Yes she left them unsupervised and thus wasn’t able to stop Raz from forming a physical connection between stray thoughts. At the same time Raz was messing with things he knew nothing about. As to why he was singled out was probably because despite it being the group egging him on, Raz was the one who went through with the idea. As for Hollis she was way too distracted with the mother-lobe base bills and payroll she didn’t realize how low her mental defense was at that point. In the end Raz learned that he shouldn’t try to forcefully change a person’s mind and Hollis realized that even if she might be some high ranking member she is still a mentor and has to act accordingly. Experimentation can lead to negative outcomes especially with interns who want to prove themselves guiding them is what is expected and respected. When Raz was given some slack and also admitting to his own wrong doings Hollis seems to accept that this was just overreaching on both parties

I think the only complaint I have for the game is the lack of outlandish character designs. In the first game, you had Bobby Zilch, the kid with the giant ears, Boole, the kid who talked really slow, and the two creepy kids. In this game everyone new looks much less imaginative.
