It's not just power and collectable that have expanded in Psychonauts 2. From Doubts and Regrets to Panic Attacks, here's a look at the new enemies you'll face off against within the mental world.
You can tell that the team really understood and cared about the theming of the game. I can't wait to see all the different levels and which mental issues each one represents.
I adore the idea of the panic attacks, they're such a fun concept. I absolutely can't wait for the second game, and it looks like it won't be physically painful to complete with the accessibility settings. So excited!
Idea for Psychonauts enemy: Earworms. Catchy songs that get stuck in your head until you can't think of anything else. Getting hit by one could temporarily replace all of Raz's Psi Powers with "Dance".
I love the interpretations of the various aspects of our minds, and how they function as enemies. Kind of sad that the Nightmares from the first game didn't seem to make the cut, though. I was eager to see them get a facelift for the sequel.
it’s so cool to see the enemies from the first game get updated with the new graphics and levels, and all of the new enemies are so amazing! everything is so dynamic and creative, and the metaphors work so well! I can’t wait for this game! :D
Man, you’re really promoting this game! That’s good! As a backer, I hope this game becomes a great success. I love all (well, most) Tim Schafer games. I grew up on them in the 90’s and I want him and DoubleFine to have that smash hit they so deserve.
So glad to finally see these amazing ideas more closely. I absolutely love the glut of thought and care into the symbolisms. Love this team, what they do and what they stand for. Brilliant through and through.
So much variety, I love how all concepts from the first game are just greatly expanded in the sequel! I wish the game was out now, so excited for the release very soon!
Oooohhh! I'm loving what they've got so far! I would love it if they delved deeper into the concepts of Anger and Rage, being where your mind blanks out and you give into your more, "Primal" side. I've even come up with concepts that would be, "Auguments" To Raz's powers being iterations of the 7 deadly sins. (While I have no idea how they'd actually function, these are all just ideas that I'm pitching out there!) "Lust" (Charm one or more of your enemies with Clairvoyance to see you as something they desire more than anything, and want to protect at all costs. Be careful though... The charm may not work and actually make your enemies far more aggressive towards you.) "Gluttony" (While ripping apart your foes, you might gain some mental health back when dealing hits to enemies using Mental Connection Combos, be warned though, as consuming too much mental health this way could actually cause your movement speed to become crippled...) "Wrath" (Enter a frenzied state, unleashing your pyrokinetic and aggressive prowess unto your enemies, ripping and tearing mercilessly as you go along, lacerating them and unleashing firepower an army wishes they could muster! Watch yourself though, as you might end up burning yourself out, and leaving yourself vulnerable for a long period of time.) "Sloth" (Cause your enemies to conk out using Confusion Grenades and enter a state of laziness where they won't want to do anything, because they forgot about what it is they were doing, be careful who you use it on, as stronger enemies might actually wake up the moment you put them out, causing them to go into a confused frenzy, dealing double the damage to enemies and allies alike!) "Pride" (Let your overwhelming confidence dominate the battlefield and cause your attacks to reach far and wide, doubling the size of your pyrokinesis bubbles, melee combos, and more! Be mindful of how long you use it, as enemies could overwhelm you with THEIR confidence causing your attack range to dwindle down to half from feeling inferior due to their intruding thoughts!) "Greed" (Using Levitation, you can pull more arrowheads from your enemies just by whacking them! Be careful if you fall off of your levitation ball, however, as you'll end up LOSING arrowheads as opposed to gaining far more than what your normally would!) "Envy" (By using the power of your melee strikes, you cause enemies to take damage over time knowing that they're beating themselves up mentally over how much stronger you are compared to them! This damage stacks, and the more envious they are, the more reckless they become, and the more damage they take knowing their guard is let down! Try to avoid their attacks though, as that envy could come bouncing back right to you and start draining your mental health!)
I'm so excited for this to come out!! I've loved Psychonauts since I first played it a few months after it came out and I'm so happy the sequel is finally here! I genuinely love the panic attack enemy and just how much thought and attention to detail their seems to be with everything. I can't wait to dive into it!!
I just ran into my first panic attack in the game and when fighting it I’m like “this is overwhelming, frightening, and over all I need to lay down”… so WELL DONE!!! I kinda love the visual this gives when trying to explain mental health stuff.
Amazing!! I'm super excited to see what's up with the Bad Moods! And the combat just looks so fun and engaging! Cannot wait to play it, guys- looks like you all did an incredible job! :D
This is just so awesome to me! I already liked the enemies in the first game but to me, this just fleshes it out so much more and adds a lot of variety. Double fine is really knocking it out of the park on this one! Adding more of what already worked in the first game!
So excited for Psychonauts 2! I played the first game back in the day and it was my childhood! The game really helped me cope with and understand my own mental health issues and illnesses. It was a truly heartfelt and amazing game, thank you so much DoubleFine for the amazing game and I look forward to playing the next one!
So that’s what those crazy rainbow wolf enemies are called, panic attacks, loved the design of this mini boss And definitely loved to see more of these enemies, definitely makes the wild title more wild from the original game, this is going to be awsome!
Really just love the designs of these things, like when you look at them and just get the name and nothing else then it’s easy to go “okay, yeah that makes sense”
As someone who's in school for counseling I adored the enemy design and mechanics on how to beat them. My favorites were the bad moods and panic attacks
oh heck. I thought the judge was a miniboss before. All of these archetypes look great. I'm excited to see what it's like to fight some of them in tandem. Less than a week away :D
Okay so first impressions Censors: nostalgic cannon fodder Regrets: surprisingly useful if you’re quick and smart Doubts: annoying but flammable Bad Ideas: a double edged sword for themselves if you will Enabler: definitely annoying, both in character and gameplay The Judge: a smart and strong bull whose horns are can be used against him Bad Mood: self-explanatory. Distracting, frustrating, and very whimsy Panic Attack: Dreaded and Detested, closest thing to a full boss, can’t help but say ‘Oh crap’
I love how you can tell how to deal with that particular thing with it's battle strategy For example panic attacks you need to slow them down Sensors and doubts need to be silently dealt with if you were going to do something that's important Bad moods need you to stop yourself look at yourself and see what caused this
Can’t wait just only a few days away and it will be here. Got it pre ordered on Steam and I’m going to play the first game tonight again to be all set. This looks great and fun. Love 3D platformers
I like the gameplay idea to find the source of a Bad Mood to destroy it. It perfectly makes sense. Sometimes, you end up in a bad mood, but you don't remember WHY or HOW. You have to remember what "triggered" you to creat a bad mood and once you found reason/source, POUF, it disappears.... Brilliant.
Cool! I do remember fighting larger censors in Psychonauts 1, at least in Sasha's and Gloria's levels, but they're not as common (I've been replaying the game recently). I do like that they look different according to the level - for insurance, in Milla's mind they have a party theme :) I was wondering before about some Psychonauts 1 enemies we didn't see in the past trailers and whether they would return, but it seems new enemies have more or less the same mechanics (it seems, to me, that the Bad Ideas replace the Personal Demons, and the Panic Attack replaces the Nightmares)
I liked the way the panic attack looks with all those colors and such but fighting against it something tells me it's going to be really really hard even on the lowest difficulty setting and I don't even know if they have a difficulty setting and as of now I am counting down the days until I can play it starting now for days
Imagine good "enemy" types that are opposites of the enemies. Like instead of bad moods clouding your vision, good moods make collectibles easier to find or stuff like that
Double Fine has certainly come a long way. I'm glad I bought Psychonauts back in the original Xbox. It was a fantastic game and made me yearn for a sequel... and we're finally getting one. At last!
One thing I noticed is in the Lady Lucktopus' boss fight, her crown(?) was similar to the bad idea lightbulbs and used them in attacks, showing, as Raz said, that she's a bad idea
