I know this is an annoying level to play, but honestly, I genuinely love how this level is a cramped, small space where you’re on constant display, being constantly mocked, judged and commented on, with intense time limits and numerous hazards, surrounded by toxic Doubt slime, in the boss battle and out, chaotic and anxiety inducing, you really get a sense of Compton’s anxiety, it’s so good, if frustrating to play. And then you factor in that the puppets are on his hands? The judgement he fears is nonexistant and he’s the one judging himself! Brilliant!
not to mention that their main attack is vomit, making them literal bile-spewing critics, and by using ingredients found in their vomit, you make them essentially eat their own words.
I like the usage of the goat puppets, alot. Not only do they represent the overexaggerated judgment of Compton's associates, but at the same time represent his fear where while he can succeed, everything still may blow up in his face, even literally, and feels it's all from his hands.
I feel they also represent how anxiety truly works, its usually not something someone curses you with, many times its something you do to yourself by over thinking. The goats all seem to act on their own but in the end its just Compton being overly-judgemental to himself and thanks to Raz' help he realizes he always had control of the situation
What made me sad was that the second memory vault the player found, Compton was only trying to help all the stray animals, but once they all came to thank him, he had a panic attack from all the voices and killed them all in typical Boole fashion. Great, but sad, use of the previous gimmick of the previous game. This action ultimately sent him to isolation
Never thought he killed them the same way Dogen did. That's very interesting, I hope we get some lore of this exploding psychic ability in some later game or DLC.
Something I learned after the first playthrough: complete the Sensorium level first. The Time Bubble power makes navigating all of those rotating blades much easier.
This was probably both my favorite and least favorite part of the game. Ingeniously designed, and with some of the best dialogue in the game (I love when the chopper is asked to chop the pig). But man it was stressful.
Good news is that you get all the rewards in the mystery boxes after you beat the level anyway. So there's no real reason to panic, which is genius because it, much like the judges, is all in your head. The level's actually not that hard
@@charlesajones77 I really like that, though. There’s going to be times where you’re going to have to work a time limit, so you have to plan accordingly.
Honey pepper bacon lumberstack with watermelon sounds bomb af. Somebody actually made it and the other dishes in real life, look up Chef Andy Lunique on Twitter.
As someone who suffers from anxiety, this level is incredibly relatable. Even if it’s stressful to play, it’s my favorite level in the game so far. I love Psychonauts so much
So the trick to the third one is to multitask. The blender and the boiler need time to cook their product, but the chopper and the grill cook their food with little time. The grind rails and the levitation ball help cut seconds.
This level is probably one of the shorter ones but it’s definitely the most interesting in terms of setup. Most of the other levels are “here are three doors go through them and get three themed items then the level is over”
Puppets food inflation and explosions similar to conker this shows that this game had alot of creative freedom XD this game has everything it felt really original to me
Ok but I actually wanna try and make that Lumberstack. Honey pepper bacon with a fried egg and some pancakes with honey and watermelon in the batter sounds absolutely delicious!
It represents him being judged and overwhelmed. In terms of game mechanics, the timer and multitasking represents his lack of confidence in juggling duties and the pressure he felt. His hand puppet and the enemy judges shows he is his own worst judge and critic. The crowd could be due to social anxiety or the chaotic voices he hear from animals with zoo-pathy
I love how the time running out doesn't actually matter, giving an accurate insight to how anxiety can be for some people. As the timer gets closer and you make mistakes, you can feel such overwhelming dread- but then as it hits zero... nothing happens. You're not sent back to try again. You don't die, or even lose health. You can just... keep going. The only repercussion is that you don't get that mystery box- which you can go back and get anyway in the end. Sometimes people can get so engrossed in certain things that they either forget or don't realize are not necessary, and they can stress themselves out so much over it.
I’m starting to think Dogen got his hat idea from his grandpa. Pretty sure that bowler derby’s not just fancy but is some kinda limiter for Compton’s powers. Why else would it have a keyhole on it?
Compton has to be my favorite character, he thinks that the psychonauts judge him, which is why the judge enemy is in his head, and also why there are goats that judge Raz and Compton.
I don't know if you do video games, but if you do, I would like to see the Honey Pepper Pancake Stacker from Psychonauts 2. Or anything from the Ram it Down! Segments.
@@dylanlynch3340 same here, it’s ok though. All you have to do is complete the game and then once it prompts you to continue to explore once you return the box will be gone only leaving the tag.
The difference is that if u complete within the time a mystery box opens but if u complete after the timer is done, story proceeds but the mystery box is not gonna open up
@@onlyacomentarynothingspeci2419 You could get the prizes anyway after the end of the level by going back with the brain tumbler in Sasha's lab. The prizes would be just there without the 'mystery boxes', since there's no way to re-do the contest : forced to re-start the game.
I think even the utensils the judges use in the boss fight are symbolic with how they’re shark-themed. Judges can be just as vicious as sharks with how their mean comments can eat you alive.
