I decided to keep the brains of [REDACTED] and [SUPER REDACTED] from this video and may cover them later if there is enough interest. There is enough on both of them to fill two of these vids. Sorry if this isn't the content that most of you subbed for. It's just something I wanted to gush about for awhile.
I first decided not to watch it since it's not like the regular WF video, but I decided against it since I've had my own erm, lows as well, so it interested me, I'd say it was worth the watch, it was a good video :P
I can't believe that they had this whole story set up as far back as the early 2000s. I didn't even notice the names of the Psychic Six on the logs at Whispering Rock. And Ford's being the broken one.
I read they didn't have a story. There was no plans for a sequel but with interest in the game coming up they just made up a sequel story. Using what was in the original.
It was probably less that they had things planned out, moreso that there were world building elements that could be interesting to expand upon. They were right.
What's nice about Otto being the only one to be seemingly unaffected by the past is that we can see that it's because he did actually confront his issues instead of withdrawing like everyone else, using his inventions to express what he was feeling at the time.
As someone who has battled anxiety, Compton removing the puppet that’s been berating him to reveal his hand is such a powerful moment Shame can weaponize what you think other people hate about you in your frantic desire to please them- But behind it all it’s just your mind and your mind alone You don’t have to persecute yourself to be worthy You already are
milla is actually dealing with the trauma in a healthy way , while she isn't dwelling on it or repressing it , she just has it off in its own litter corner of her mind
The stuff at 15:30 and the whole library stuff resonated with me hard, as that question is something I have asked myself. "Which me is the real me, or are all versions of me just part of a bigger me I never found yet?" Having several different books with different personalities slightly differencing from each other used for when I am with different people. However unlike her trying to have total control and trying to remove the bad stuff, I just learnt to live with it. Kinda like how she did with Raz help in the end.
It's nice to hear that someone else thinks that Psychonauts 2 is as important of a game as I think it is. There really isn't anything else like it out there, and it's honestly refreshing to play a game that's willing to get into the meat (haha) of mental illness without pulling punches or demonizing those who have to deal with it. Which just makes me all the more irritated over how snubbed it was at the Game Awards. It's petty-but I think a little pettiness is overdue given it somehow lost Best Narrative to a MARVEL game.
Obligatory "sorry for the long response" and "trigger warning ahead" but this is something I almost dreamed of. Quite frankly I've followed your content for quite a long time and love nothing more than your video essays and are up there among my favorite style. Mental health is something I hold very dear to me due to how greatly it affected my life. At the ages of 12 and 14, my bestfriend and girlfriend respectively committed suicide. The trauma this is has brought me and the way I coped with it leaves the terminology "sub-par" waaaay in the dirt. I don't want to get too much into it here, but seeing the same youtuber that I've adored for such a long time talk about something this important and especially in such an entertaining way is indescribable. I know that anything that isn't warframe doesn't get a lot of clicks which is a shame due to the level of quality this video in particular displays, but note that this one person right here is looking forward to whatever you have planned/in the works, no matter the type of video.
I think the third game should focus on Otto’s seeming inability to feel empathy for the suffering of his colleagues and how his possible anti social personality disorder has gone unnoticed and has lead him to feel no remorse for his dangerous experiments hurting his friends and setting into motion The events that led to the mental weakness that would create moligula
I can see that as a possibility, he talked about mini astralathe’s not concerned with the damage that invention had caused. In an unused idea talked about bottled emotions that Otto has
I saw a comment on a psychonauts video that said that Mila's mind is reflective of what s healthy mind is, the trauma is there and even acknowledged, but not consuming her mind and causing agony
This is an absolutely outstanding analysis. As a psych teacher who talks about these levels at nauseam, your fluency with many of the mental health themes present is nothing short of impressive! I also can't say enough positive things about how you were able to place yourself in the context of these characters and empathize with them in a way that's both serious and frequently hilarious. Nothing short of a superb video essay! Hope to see more!
Psychonauts and Psychonauts 2 were both games I experienced only very recently for the first time, but I quickly fell in love with both of them. I do feel like the second game has a greater fixation on trauma, although the original did have allusions to it in almost all of the mental worlds. Trauma is a tricky thing and what ends up devastating one person might just be another Tuesday for another, so it can sometimes be hard to "get" why people are affected the way they are.
I would absolutely love to see more content like this. I’m always looking into any discussion/analysis videos of Psychonauts and the way everything was brought up was really well done.
Sabuuchi. I to have autism. I sometimes wonder if people knew that I was, would they take me seriously and if those who do know will take me seriously. All we can do is push forward. Ignore the people who won't value us and embrace the ones who will. You are not alone Sabuuchi.
Nicely made. I would be incquierd on elaborated talk about [REDACTED] The [REDACTED] was amazing even managed to sneak away a few of my tears on how well done it was written, Explaining how Certain actions when steered in wrong directions could lead to catastrophic results
Hey I didn't watch this video until I read a comment on one of your videos saying that this was one of your best. It is. It brought me close to tears a couple of times and I honestly didn't know you had it in you to make such a poignant reflection on a game. You made my day better.
I plan to make a variety you tube channel eventually, with warframe as a part of it. It would be righteous😎 if we could play together but that is probably a pipe dream.
I love how the game is completely open about having two gay couples, going as far as showing their marriage. Like, any other developers would probably just mention that they may or may not have a gay character in the background, in their game, but Double Fine is like "Yes, we have them gays. Deal with it"

It's kinda funny cause right now in Destiny 2 is season of the Haunted where the player and Eris Morn, a former Guardian that the player once helped come to grip to her past traumas now must help other main characters come to grips with their greatest traumas and finally let go and grow. The timing with this video is kinda impeccable
