Psychopsis Mendenhall ‘Hildos’ First Bloom 

Psychopsis (Oncidium) Mendenhall ‘Hildos’ in bloom for the first time! I’ve had this since a very young seedling for almost 3 years. This is its first bloom. I am amazed by the flower size and the sparkling quality to the petals. I have not detected a fragrance but one is not needed for such a beautiful bloom. I’m growing this orchid in a self watering pot in sphagnum and small bark/perlite mix. I water as the reservoir gets lower and fertilize every 2-3 waterings. The orchid growing under bright Barrina grow lights and receives ambient outdoor light from the window. The temperatures in the grow room range from a low of 60 in the winter to a high of 80 in the summer. Humidity averages 40 to 60%.
