This song was my first exposure to Hopsin and I normally wouldn't listen to a song that's this vulgar but the brutal honesty was what kept me listening. I went through the book of Job in my last discipleship group and I completely understand that comparison. Hopsin is featured on a NF song coming up on the journey called Lost, and he doesn't curse in that song out of respect for NF.

It is like the saying 'no light without dark'....sometimes the vulgar and profane serve to accentuate the beauty and what, for some, might be 'Holy'. If everything was either vulgar or holy then both would cease to have any meaning at all. I'm not religious...but I do believe in a higher power and the strength of spirituality. Part of that, even though I may be vulgar and profane at times.....means, to me at least, that I must respect others. But that isn't unconditional, nor automatic...These are things earned through deeds. One thing I have learned through my explorations has been that there are Universal Truths.....No religion, no doctrine, no person....has a monopoly on these....In fact...Many of these 'truths' are echoed, whether they be from religious doctrines, or 'vulgar' Hip Hop artists....hence why they are 'universal'. Even Christ learned and taught lessons from folks that were anything but 'Holy'....I guess the message I'm trying to get at is people should pay more attention to the message....rather than the messenger.

I deeply can relate, especially since I was raised in an extremely religious family. My granddad (my dad’s father) was one of them ol’ timey southern Baptist preacher for over 50years. Which means my dad is deeply rooted within his faith. My moms side of the family was raised in a church; My grandma (my moms mother) worked 2 jobs to put all 6 of her children through a private Christian school program until they reached the age where they were able to work & then they were given the option to continue their Christian school until they graduated; if they chose to stay there then my grandma would continue to pay for their tuitions. Or they could transfer to the local high school but they would have to pay for their own transportation to & from school since the area they lived in back from the 50s-70s didn’t even have a local high school; it was over 45 mins away in the next county over. Lol so only a few of my moms siblings decided to finish out their high school careers at the Christian school, not my mother thought….she was more of the rebellious one out of them all. But once she got to the public high school, that’s where she met my dad & it forced her to continue on with her Christian values. So my childhood was definitely strict especially when it came to my dad; my mom was obviously more lenient & relaxed. I know they’re was a lot of reasons for why they divorced but I know that how they viewed their religious beliefs was a huge reason why. So after being taught about religion in a certain way for 10 years of my life, to having the opportunity to decide how I want to approach religion all on my own was completely confusing but eye opening. I can say I stepped away, came back, too many times to count but I finally came to the realization that I didn’t have to goto a physical church to “prove” my faith, I didn’t have to only surround myself with those who were religious; that I could have relationships with others that had different beliefs & we still could be on good terms. I didn’t have to limit myself to how my dad insisted that I should be to prove that I believed in God, had faith, or was religious.

The best thing about Hopsin is he’s brutally honest, always. But the question this track alone raises is so relatable to 100’s of millions. I think everyone has this back & forth once in their life, maybe multiple times. There is a really fine line between sinning & living, and to live your life in hope isn’t what we should do. Life’s short after all… that’s ultimately what we should take into account.

i've been atheist since child, because my whole family tree were atheists and it has been proven that religions were created to control peoples, as goverment's do now, but one day I asked myself why I am atheist and I answer to myself, because I don't feel stuck on anything I am living my life, without feeling any restrictions and a clear mind, in other words I don't live in doubt and because of that, I can think freely and have your own opinion about everything and not be ashamed of it and if I am getting juged, its not my problem, its a problem for those people who judge me. But at the same time, I feel like sometimes I know too much, and another thing I realised that all religions are ancient way of bileaving and we are stuck on it, but I can guarantee that in future, religions gonna slowly disappear, we are in modern times now and not too long ago, religions where everywhere, but recently, peoples bileave less and less as science progress. Other thing I do bileave, I bileave in family, friends, people and humanity, something that its clear to me and have a reason. I do not hate religions or anything, but they where created for a bad reason in the first place and I don't feel like being a puppet. I might sound harsh on all religions, but that's my honest view how I see it, I like that peoples bileave in god, because every human have to bileave in something to have some kind of guidance.

@Xtroninater
@Xtroninater 2 месяца назад
The fact that you believe religion will disappear in the future shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what religion is. You seem to be of the common misconception that religion and science are antithetical. Religious dogma has been used to stunt scientific progress before, but that has little to do with the concept of religion itself. There is a very real difference between how specific religions have been used by mankind and what role faith plays in human experience. Religion itself is more so an attempt to answer or make peace with non-scientific questions. Science exclusively provides answers for physical aspects of our experience. Religion is primarily regarding metaphysical aspects of experience. For example science can answer the question: “will X parts per million of lead in water kill people?” However, it cannot answer the question: “is it wrong to kill people?” Scientifically, right and wrong do not exist, because there is no physical way to measure right and wrong. “True knowledge is in knowing that you know nothing.” I wouldn’t be so quick to judge mans attempts to answer metaphysical questions if I didn’t understand the importance of those answers.

Hey Tom! I've been waiting so long for you to do this song! I love this song! I relate so much. I grew up Christian, and as I became an adult I became extremely conflicted because I love cooperating, I love wisdom, and I wanted so bad for God to be real. I don't like living for myself, I like being a small part of something bigger. But my gut told me it wasn't real, and I started to get angry because I wanted to have peace and just be Christian, but my mind wouldn't leave me alone. Now that I'm out, I have so much peace because I allow whatever appears to be true to guide me, rather than trying to force a pre-concieved understanding on the world. But up until the point of leaving, I started getting so angry with all the internal disonance. I was angry because I wanted God to be real, and I couldn't find him no matter how much I tried. The more I looked for answers, the more confused and doubtful I became about what I was raised to believe. In fact, my life has only become more complicated and difficult as a result of changing my mind. All my family and friends are still Christian. I wish I could be on the same page with them, but I can't decide to believe something I'm convinced isn't true. :P I actually have my own reaction to this song if anyone wants to go watch it! :) If you read all this, thanks for listening! Have a good day, and I hope you find whatever it is you most want!

What an absolute treasure this channel is. I've been following the entire Eminem series, who is arguably my favorite rapper, and happened to see u cover Hopsin as well. Honestly the videos are amazing and I think I could speak for many in saying that they allow us to learn or realize little parts of our favorite songs and get an actual look into their mind while they were writing it, and every time I watch your videos it feels like the first time hearing the song in the way that it's so exciting and invigorating to share these well thought out lyrics with people, especially someone as qualified as yourself. I could think of tons of recommendations for you, but as I'm sure you already receive tons, I will just advise that you should cover 1 essential track from each artist I mentioned. "Not Afraid" by Eminem, which is another emotional masterpiece of his with a stunning visual, and "Ill Mind 5" by Hopsin, which covers his disdain of some destructive habits teens have like substance abuse. Two great songs that I would consider essential to the series.

I was where he was at. I woke up one morning and realized I didn't believe anymore. After that, I read, prayed, cried for months, desperately trying to hold on to a relationship with someone I didn't believe in anymore. Eventually I had to come to terms with the fact that no matter how much I read prayed and cried, I just didn't believe anymore. It's not something I can turn on and off like a light switch, I either believe something or I don't. I wouldn't call myself an atheist, deep down I still hope it's all true, and based on what I know from the bible, if it is true, I'll believe again one day. Like I said, I cried while reading and praying for months, I tried to force it, I told myself over and over again that it's all true and my lack of faith doesn't stop it from being true. And that's about when I got to that point, where Hopsin's at in this video. I respect Christians who really believe, but I can't say I'm one of them anymore, and with the god described in the Bible, you're either all in or all out. Thing about it is, I don't think there's anything anyone could say to really convince me. I've heard it, I read it, I believed it, I told other people about it. I was devastated when I realized I didn't believe anymore, I'm still not completely over it, it feels like a really ugly divorce, to the point where I couldn't even talk about it for a while, to the point where anything that reminded me of God was more than I could deal with. But I don't know if there's anything I can do about it. I'm still open to it all being true, but until I believe it again, this is what it is.

@@ninjahaz0180 I had to look it up. No, because part of the definition is someone who believes that nothing can be known about anything beyond the material. If God is real and someone really believes in that God, then that person knows that God is real. If there is no God, and someone really believes that there is no God, then that person knows that God isn't real. If the thing you believe in is real, then your faith is valid. Real belief is knowing without evidence. I can't say that nothing can be known about the immaterial just because I don't know. That would be really narcissistic. Just because I don't have the answers doesn't mean there aren't people who do. I guess it all depends who's right. Maybe no one is. Maybe none of the religions are right, but there is still a deity or multiple deities which would also make the atheists and agnostics wrong. I don't know. But there's a good chance someone's right, and if they are, then they know. Christianity makes the most sense to me, if there is a religion that's right, but I can't honestly say that I believe the Bible is true anymore. But if it is, then real Christians know. Same goes for any other belief system, of course they can't all be right, but if one of them is, then the people who believe in that system know. So yeah, I can't be an agnostic, because I don't think that just because I don't know means that others don't know. I just hope that if the atheists are wrong, I find out before I die, because I'd really like to know. Honestly don't see a way of that happening though, because at this point, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't know the truth if I was staring at it. But that doesn't mean the truth can't be known just because I don't know it. I'm talking in circles, you get it.

@@ReactionTherapyOfficial Despite what I said, I was kind of hoping you would say something to try to convince me. Even after all this time part of me wants it to be true. It would make life easier to deal with. I'm like the opposite of Hopsin on that account, I didn't "quit" because membership was too hard, not believing anymore was the last thing I wanted. It would be great if I believed again, but that goes right back to the light switch thing. I can't just decide that I believe, I would be lying to myself. So I want it to be true, but just because you want something to be true doesn't mean it is, so me basing belief on that makes as much sense as Hopsin not believing because his beliefs got in the way of things he wanted to do. Honestly at this point I just wish I knew one way or the other, even though the idea of they're not being anything after this is horrifying. Not to mention, and I know this sounds weird because I'm very familiar with how Christians view unbelievers, but I miss God. I miss having that relationship, which made it way worse when I realized I couldn't honestly say I believed in him anymore. So I'm technically not a believer anymore, but I'm not happy about it.

One of the problems I've always had with religion (particularly Christianity) was that everything has boiled down to "You just have to have faith." Too many times in life I've put trust in things or people and it proved fuitless. I know people will say that God is bigger than people, but everything humans 'know' about God came from people. The bible (while alegedly inspired by God) was written by humans. That means it's flawed. And again, this is where it comes to faith. You have to have the faith that what's written is the actual Word. I just can't do that. Now, don't get me wrong, like Hopsin said, I'm not trying to torch it down. This is just what I've come to after years of analysis. I've known people who have used religion/Christianity to be mean, bigoted people. But I've also met many people who used their fiath to do good things and be good people. I have absolutely no problems with that. If your faith makes you a better person, and that better person makes the world a better place, then I love and applaud you. Please keep it up. Thank you. Also, this is great analysis of Hopsin's song. I may not agree with everything Tom says, but I can see that he has a good heart and I can definitely appreciate that. (And FWIW, I did subscribe)

I noticed you've been reacting to a lot of NF, so it would be really cool to see your reaction to Lost by NF featuring Hopsin. I think that song is completely in your wheelhouse. Alone With Me by Hopsin is another amazing track that I think you'd have some amazing insight on

it’s funny, i’ve had such an interesting relationship with this song. I first heard it when i was 12 years old (i’m 22 now) and i was like disgusted because it felt blasphemous and growing up in a strict Christian household it just felt wrong. But now, at 22, as someone who is still a follower of Jesus Christ and a believer in the one true God, I find the frustration and just sheer crying out into the “void” if you will, just trying to connect with your faith so relatable at so many points in my life. I realized it isn’t blasphemous, it’s a point blank dead honest depiction of the struggle of being a sinful being on a fallen earth trying to keep the holy spirit alive within you in a society that beats it out of you every moment of every day.

I think you nailed it when you said it's not that Hopsin doesn't believe, it's that he does and he wants answers. We see so much horrible stuff in the world that we want to see good things and hope make this life worth it

When i was around 5 i realised santa isnt real because no one could explain the facts to me i feel the exact same way to this day about god. It all makes no sense at all, a great way to control large amounts of people though. If they truly believe they have to live a certain way that just happens to fit the bill of a law abiding citizen...

The positive thing I get from this is that he is humbling himself and putting himself into a vulnerable state and pouring his heart out to God We are all 100% relying on the higher power to bring us to salvation through the works of enjuring to the end on a righteous path. Sometimes this is what people do in an attempt to reconnect with source. We all in a way are the same.

You're right it's just like Job. You'd really love his song "Marcus gospel" it's him recounting his life and how foolish he was in thinking money = happiness. But you are right Marcus does "have it all" but struggles mentally and spiritually. A good quote from Marcus gospel is "I don't like Marcus, I don't like hopsin, I am ashamed of them both" and kinda sets the frame for the whole story. I think it's also another great example of the apple and snake analogy. It shows he finally sees all the evils and that he fell for every single one of them. Also his entire album "hotel in sydney" is amazing. It's the story of how his son was born and why he's banned from australia/seeing his son. Though I believe he has since been able to see his son but I think is still technically barred from australia Ill mind 9 is the end of the album and another great song for you to dive into. Especially showing the mental side of how it would affect his child cause he airs his dirty laundry out much like eminem.

From the point of view from someone who isn't religious, Whilst I really like your analysis of songs including this one I feel I have to point out that some people who are "Angry at god" or more accurately angry at the idea of a god is that, at least for me, if god were all good and all powerful and all knowling then he would be able to fix the things wrong with the world and he would want to. He wouldn't give children agonizing terminal illness', he wouldn't watch his creation burn because of the whimes of a few powerful men, he wouldn't watch billions suffer every day out of some naive policy of non-interference. real people are experiences real suffering in the real world right now. Non-believers aren't angry that god isn't talk to us, we are angry because if he is real and he is talking to some people and he is helping some people, then he isn't helping the ones who need it. The greek philosopher Epicurus has a great saying on the matter "Evils existence disproves the existence of god, if god cannot stop evil then he is not all powerful and if he can but choose not to then he is not all good".

I believe this song is beautiful in the way that he’s confronting his creator asking questions a plea for meaning being mad or upset at our creator because you can’t see his grace I feel is a normal part of life it was a very powerful video imo it’s normal to question life and our faith if not we follow anything
