Part 1. Shimano Deore XT ST-M730 6 speed thumb shifter. 2nd version of the Deore thumbshifter. Previously the M700 {yet to get}. This one is made for a 6 speed drive train with a extra 7th click. Much like the M732 and the “8th” click. Think this was released 86/87 until 89 when the 3rd version came out.

Thanks, hope I never need to do all this with these, too precious. Hopefully a bit of cleaning and lubing will do. Took the risk and followed your instructions on some later less rare ones, eventually got them working again.

Its fairly easy compared to others and well worth it. They shift so much smoother:)

Excellent video! I have some Shimano SIS downtube shifters from about 1986 and I simply can't get into them. I think they are probably the same tech as this shifter. They just (redacted) won't come apart! I'm afraid I'm going to brake them trying to get them apart. Any ideas? Thanks for the video!

. I got one infront of me now, RX M550. They seem to be locked down with a special nut that doesn’t seem to be removable. I don’t know what model you have, but given the smaller smaller body, its possible they did this alot for weight saving etc

@@atboy4342 Thanks! One of my shifters has A350 stamped into it. I think it's from the first year or two of road SIS. If I find any magic trick I'll let you know, but I'm thinking that if YOU can't get in it, then nobody can. I have a stray one that I might sacrifice by cutting it open just to see if any truths will be revealed. Keep up the good work!
