I have never seen so many shell piles with such gorgeous shells! What beauties, congratulations!! I loved being able to look thru the shell piles as you were raking thru them.
It was so very great to finally meet you as you ventured over to Marco Island. Thanks for letting us be a part of this adventure and for being so approachable and kind. That infectious laugh lifted my spirits, despite knowing that while we were all in awe and having a good time, so many were piecing their lives back together.

What a wonderful shelling adventure with your bestie! Their girls were so gentle as they placed the live ones back into the water. Gorgeous shells! We finally got to Marco today. Although we were lucky to have minimal damage this Milton,, many of our neighbors who helped us when we had considerable damage from Ian needed our help. Community members that help each other make for strong communities. The beach is pretty cleaned up. It looks like they dumped the pen shells in a couple of areas. We still found several nice shells including alphabet cones and a couple of small true tulips and gaudy nauticas. There were still lots of whelks and murex shells among the pen shells. If you are going the piles of pen shells and grasses contain lots of biting bugs so bring bug spray.

I have to ask about the guys with 5 gallon buckets. What if they are eating the contents of the shells? We have eaten conch in restaurants in the Turks and Caicos. And we often eat scallops. If they were taking all live things, how is that different than fishing? This is a sincere question.
