Pt. 2: Lukla to Namche Bazaar | Hiking the EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK | EBC 2022 // THIS is the story of how I said “Yes” to my very first international trek, hiking up to Everest Base Camp in Nepal.
Today was a LONG DAY and the OFFICIAL start of our trek up to Everest Base Camp.
From Lukla to Namche Bazaar, the elevation was:
2,845 meters to 3,440 meters
9,333 feet to 11,286 feet
Along the way, I had my first of many Ginger Lemon Honey Teas and Garlic Soups. We spun numerous prayer wheels, crossed over a bunch of bridges, saw a ton of different animals, hiked through the Sagarmatha National Park and hiked up the infamous Namche Hill in the rain, mud and dark.

In this video, you'll meet our whole, entire EBC trail family including our wonderful guide, Prakash AND our incredible Sherpas: Min, Sumon and Bupol. Today, we hiked from Lukla to Namche Bazaar, which was a BIG day filled with a fair amount of mileage, animals, bridges, yummy food and so much beautiful scenery. Nepal is such a magical place!

I don’t think they are Sherpas. Sherpas are one of the ethnicity/castes of Nepal who live in that region along with other ethnic people aswell. Sherpa word refers to people living in the east in Tibetan language but the West has a misunderstanding of calling everyone sherpa who carries load, do mountain guide etc which is not true.
@TheHungryHiker

@@mingmarlama7987 I'm glad you pointed this out because I'm still not 100% about this one myself. When I did the research, I thought our guys (Min, Bupol and Sumon) were porters, but when I asked out guide, he told me that they were Sherpas. Porter or Sherpa title aside, "our guys" (which we lovingly referred to them as along our trek) were absolutely AMAZING and an important part of our EBC Trek family. We couldn't and wouldn't wanted to have done this trek without Prakash, Min, Bupol or Sumon.

How are the bathroom / toilet situation along the hike till the end? Are there always clean toilet and water available?
@TheHungryHiker
@TheHungryHiker Год назад
Great question and this is something I will cover in detail in a future video. Along our trek, we had flushing toilets in our teahouses up until Lobuche. From there, the bathrooms consisted of a toilet with a bucket of water. The water would acted as the "flushing" mechanism for the toilet. The bathrooms along our trek were always been, but not necessarily in the rooms we stayed in. As for drinking water, even though I brought a SteriPEN to treat water, we ended up buying and drinking bottled water during our entire trip, both along the trek and in Kathmandu.

Our duffel bags had all of the things we'd need overnight while staying in each of the teahouses. @buxtonspice1532
@buxtonspice1532 Год назад
I recently did this solo, it took me maybe 3-4 days to start understanding how to walk at altitude. Had to break the habit of going (or trying) to hike too fast. Why did you choose to hike to Namche on the first day? That’s a very long day, I would not want to be ascending Namche hill in dark, even descending it is hairy especially with the mud.
@TheHungryHiker
@TheHungryHiker Год назад
Slowing down our hiking pace was a constant challenge out there. Thankfully we had a wonderful guide (Prakash) to help guide us and remind us to slow down our pace so that we didn't overexert ourself when we were hiking at the higher altitudes. Hiking to Namche from Lukla was always part of our plan. Overall, our trek up to EBC was only 5 days with a helicopter ride back to Lukla. We knew coming into this that the hike out of Lukla was going to be a big day.

This trek could be for all different experience levels, but you’ll need to train for it. As for doing this solo, Nepal just passed legislation last year making it mandatory that every foreign traveler have a local guide for this trek. So I wouldn’t suggest doing this trek solo since it’s now considered illegal.
