@@tonyasadulin1296 it a pita but doable After you disconnect everything from diff have a helper or 2 Jacks raised to support diff and then take 3 support diff bolts out then lower both Jack's at same time. When you get bushings out reinstall new 45* degrees ie. Instead flat notch on top install flat notch 9 o'clock or 3 o'clock. Hope this advice can help you and others good luck

Know the feeling cussed it out then gave up bushing was still good just seized to bolt took struts out by taking bolt out of split cup of wish bone reinstalled same way problem solved.

I feel your pain man. Those bushings should be mounted in brackets that bolt to the housing. That would make this a fifteen minute job instead of 6hours! I cut out the thin rubber part of the top bushing and filled those gaps with windshield urethane. I let the urethane dry for 3 full days before putting it back in. Its holding up very well. I didn't take mine out. I just let it spin around so I could access the bushings. Still sucked big time.

i got the two from from ebay and they came from egypt and didn't pay anything near what you said. i also wanted to let you know that the sleeve the bolt goes through is smaller that the factory one. i had to get a wider sleeve and cut it down to size so the factory bolt would fit through it.

Thanks for your extremely detailed process A+++ on your video. You remind me of myself with your coming up with new tools or workarounds for things - awesome thinking on your part (not saying I am smart but I have come up with some home made tools to get the job done). I agree with you 100 percent about the reason it breaks and I will take your good advice when doing mine (regarding putting the solid pieces at the top and bottom instead of the sides). Good luck with your future endeavors.

Poly bushing don't have much give or ability to absorb shock and give. I have a 96 ZJ 5.2 with everything poly and it rides stiff now but it does handle better-- I have greaseable poly sway bar links top and bottom on mine now, old ones were seized so I brought to Meineke and they cut it off with a wheel--- sucks paying someone to do things when you don't have the toolsMost part stores sell those small pumps that screw directly onto a container and they're cheap, good for changing transfer case, diff.. etc. just keep it clean and put in a baggie when you're done

I forgot to mention to you, when ever you come across these large allen key plugs find a bolt that the head will fit inside the hex plug, then screw on 2 nuts and even weld the nuts to the bolt then use a ring spanner or socket to unscrew plug.

Nice video man. Watched 1 & 2, I feel for you. Getting ready to do these on my 2008 Commander. You're absolutely correct on the design being bullshit. I think they left those air gaps in the bushings just for noise that would be transmitted inside, honestly. If and when you have to do them again (which is almost a certainty), look into Creative Steel or Jeeperf. Both companies make poly bushings. You should be able to get away with just the top as a poly, the passenger side and front should be ok with oem. That's my plan of attack anyways. Cheers mate!

Exactly the approach I'm going with, Creative Steel top bushing, Mopar pass side bushing and generic bottom mount cause that can be replaced anytime easily.

Hi, I'm currently considering whether to do this repair myself or have it done by a mechanic. I feel the quotes they're giving me would make it worth the effort. In all, how many hours do you think you spent working on it - you mentioned over 4 days, but I assume that's not continuous work?
@WATCHMEWRENCH
@WATCHMEWRENCH 6 лет назад
Hello Philip, I think this job could be done in a solid 2 days of work (8-10 hours per day). I had to break it up into 4 days because of other obligations, maybe less for others. You should have all of the tools and supplies before you start so you dont have to run off to the store in the middle of the job. I didn't have the right tools when it came time to press in the new bushings as I am sure you observed. I used a piece of wood but it worked out perfect, just took some time to figure it all out. Good luck and thank you for watching.
