Pt. 4 Costco Yardistry 12x14 Wood Gazebo ANCHORING and Ridge Clips

I had a couple people ask about anchoring, so I put this up to show how I approached it. Cost was about $12 for the wedge anchors. Also, I had an afterthought regarding a problem I had with the ridge clips and the directions during CONSTRUCTION (Pt.2) and so I put that in here also.

Very Helpful. Yardistry needs to pay you to draw their diagrams. Yours was easy to understand - theirs didn't make sense at all! THANKS FOR POSTING.

Thanks for the video, I still haven't made up my mind if I want to drill into my new concrete pad to anchor the Pavilion. I mean its 700+ lbs and there are no tornados in my area. LOL

I'm installing a 12 x 12 Gazebo next to/on top of an existing brick patio. The brick patio is 10 x 10, the posts for the 12 x 12 Gazebo go from 9'8 1/8" to 11'. So, I'll be removing about 2" of each corner of the patio and pouring a pad for the new posts. I live in St. Louis, I was thinking I had to pour footings to below the frost line, but from watching all of your videos (thank you), I'm thinking I just have to pour a "pad" at the corner of my patio. There are just rocks and dirt next to it now. The location is at the bottom of my back yard and while I get bad storms, my cheap 5 x 8 BBQ "tents" are sturdy as can be just tied from the top to the ground. I'm thinking if I pour 4-5" thick concrete pads and bolt to those, this should be fine. Any thoughts? Thank you again for the videos, I'll watch the company's also, but yours are "real normal people" videos. Thanks again and any ideas are welcome!
@cindyhose7206

I was also thinking of "tent stakes on steroids" like rebar to anchor...ideas? Like just making sure everything is level and driving the "stakes" into the ground...

What I have t figured out is what the weatherstripping does. It sits on top of the sheet metal ridges, but doesn’t stop and water from getting to the ridge caps because it flows into the ridges. Or am I overthinking this. Your video and diagram were very helpful by the way! Thank you!

Did you have any issues with the roof panels edge that over hang where they are supposed to be flush? For some reason on the large roof panel, we can't get it to fit just right. One side always overhangs. Any tips ?
@jmsifodyas1
@jmsifodyas1 7 лет назад
On the long 14' edge it is supposed to overhang about 1-2 inches. On the 2 angled wood edges it is to be flush (or even it can be a little bit set back from the wood edge). If its not flush on the 2 angled wood edges you just gotta keep moving the sheets incrementally till you get it. Good luck.

I added the weather stripping to the top rather than the side. I figured the idea is to prevent water from getting to the sides. I think either way works. But yes it's the one area where I scratched my head for a while and had to think for a few before I committed to sticking it to the roof panel. Thanks for the vid.

My question for you (others welcomed too) is timing of anchoring. At the end of all steps OR at end of either step 4 or 5 in order to keep everything all square while remaining steps are completed ?

I anchored it only after everything was fully built. That allowed me flexibility in construction and final placement as well as making sure everything was square.

mine is also on brick pavers. it has been up for 2 weeks now and we had a nasty storm go through with 40-50mph gusts and it did not move at all. I was a bit surprised but very happy. I think you will only make a mess if you attempt to anchor it through the pavers. I am wishing now I would not have put the anchoring hardware on.

My cement is 4 inches thick.. so I used 3/8 x 3.. The stud sticks out about an inch, so it's going a little more than 2 inches into the concrete. I drilled the holes 2.5 inches deep. Home Depot and Lowes only carry plated anchors... I found stainless steel anchors online (Amazon) for about the same price. Good luck Jerry!

Thank you for the video. I DESPERATELY NEED YOUR GUIDANCE. I'm in the spot where the RIDGE CLIPS come into play. The weather stripping segment was very helpful. Now I'm stuck with where to mount them. In illustration 15.1 it shows the top of the RIDGE CLIPS should be flush with the top. But that puts the RIDGE CLIPS above the ROOF EDGE. In illustration 24.3 it shows the RIDGE CLIP overhanging a little on the ROOF EDGE. How did yours come out?
@jimj2388
@jimj2388 7 лет назад
not sure how to explain it but the foam all said and done sits ON TOP of the roof and make sure you put the screws in so that they are flush because when you put the roof sections up and on, the ridge clips from each roof panel butt up to one another and if the screws stick out even just a little bit, you will have problems. hope that helps peter, and good luck

I'm asking if the RIDGE CLIP should overlap onto the ROOF EDGE or not?
@jimj2388
@jimj2388 7 лет назад
yes. the curved part is above the roof edge. the flat part gets screwed flush to the wood edge. it is a goofy fit but that's how it goes and if it's installed incorrectly you won't be able to drop your 4 roof sections in properly

Was wondering if you have any advise on anchoring on paver patio. thanks
@thomaslahr9022
@thomaslahr9022 6 лет назад
I did. Used 1/2 concrete anchors thru the pavers. Ideally i would have poured concrete under the paver where the posts are, re-installed the paver then drilled the anchor thru the paver and into the concrete. But i figure into the pavers are good enough. If we get wind that is strong enough to rip out the pavers then I've got bigger problems that just my gazebo getting blown away.
@jmsifodyas1
@jmsifodyas1 6 лет назад
I'm afraid I don't have any good solutions for pavers. If they are large pavers you could go into those like concrete (provided the posts are all centered on the pavers), but I don't think it would be worth it unless each paver was pretty large (no less than 2'x2').

Thank you very much for your entire list of videos, it may it much easier to assemble the product. I did all the assembly in our shop by myself and then my husband helped me put up the posts and beams. For those still asking, "do I need 4 people to install the roof panels?" YES! We had our 18 year old grandson and his friend help us and so glad I asked them to come (they can each dead lift almost 600 pounds). Without their help we would not have been able to get them up there and attached. We went with your recommendation on the anchors and feel they were right on. We live in Oklahoma where the wind blows hard and have been having 70 mph winds on about a weekly basis and the gazebo has not even moved a millimeter. Thank You again!

Do you think you can hang a fan in the 12 X 14 Yardistry Gazebo?
@jmsifodyas1
@jmsifodyas1 7 лет назад
I think you could, provided that (a) you mounted a box on the underside of the peak to handle the junction box and (b) you found a fan that cleared the two bracing beams underneath the rafters while maintaining clearance at the tips of the fan. You might be able to find a small enough fan to place in the cavity between the rafters and the two braces, otherwise you may want the fan to drop just below those braces.

Yeah, you probably can get away with it since the total weight is 650lbs. I did it mainly due to (a) occasional strong gusts that could cause additional vibration and (b) engineers typically add such anchoring points for a reason.
@JaredHaren
@JaredHaren 7 лет назад
jmsifodyas1 Just started mine today and made great progress referring to your videos many times. You are so right about the base of the posts, those 4 pieces are simply too long and don't fit right. Luckily I have a miter saw and was able to fix that but if someone couldn't do that they would be disappointed. I have a question for you - did you seal or stain this at all to help it be more water resistant? I read in the manual to do that YEARLY for optimal life span. Yearly is a bit much in my opinion but I was considering doing a couple coats initially before the whole thing is put together. I figured out of the box it would be treated for the outdoors, but apparently not. Thoughts? Very curious how yours has held up so far, especially in Seattle where rains so much. Thanks again for the video series!!!
@jmsifodyas1
@jmsifodyas1 7 лет назад
Glad the videos have helped. So far mine has held up great. I think I came across somewhere on their website that the wood was per-treated, but that you will want to add treatments each year. I agree that's a lot, but I figured I would watch the southwest side of my unit since that has the most exposure. If I start to see any weathering I'll hit it with a wood sealer.

@@aaraujo306 I emailed Yardistry to ask and this was their response: It is critically important you start with square, solid and level footings, concrete pad or deck to attach your system.

how long did it take you to build from start to finish

I scattered it over a few of different days due to weather and the size of the area I had to build in when the weather was bad. If I calculated the total time it was probably around 8 hours. That would include sorting the components, setting up my work-space a bit like an assembly line and then some of the misc prep (such as taking off all the protective coating on the metal). I did the project on my own until it was time to put the rafters up. With a second person several things could go a little more quickly.

If you don't actually keep track of how long it takes for each step it will feel like much less time than it actually took. I am keeping track and by myself I have 17 hours in and It is not set up yet. I have all roof panels completed. now I will get 3 buddies over to complete the job. See foydas step 3. I have left some comments on there regarding time. This is not like putting together a bedroom set from Ikea. I am a mechanically inclined person and found this very tedious and challenging. I think the product is great but if you don't go step by step you will have problems.

how far down does your concrete go?

I would guess my porch pad is roughly 5-6 inches.

ok ....i know you mentioned the length is 2 1/2 inches. What is the diameter or the anchors? Would something like this work? : www.uline.com/Product/Detail/H-3722/Safety-Guards-Barriers/Concrete-Installation-Kit-for-Rack-Protectors-and-Pallet-Racks?pricode=WZ664&gadtype=pla&id=H-3722&gclid=Cj0KEQjww7zHBRCToPSj_c_WjZIBEiQAj8il5MiCG9rocdFuy3F7vSh5YC7enMKUf3CLCsfv3x6Lh2MaAlhw8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

Mine were 3/8" - I don't see what the size is on the link you shared, but they look like they would work.
