Thank you for posting this video! I was surprised at how hard it was to find an at home treatment/exercise besides swimming. I just did a few reps of the floor exercises and Joni seems to get a good stretch in her hamstrings by walking over my calves. She also got a mini workout without going outside. :) thanks again!
Thank you so much for this. Our 6 month old toy poodle just started exhibiting signs 2 weeks ago of her left leg. How signs in her right leg as well. She’s so tiny. Surgery scares me for her because of her size and my affordability. But to have both legs bothering her breaks my heart for her. She’s a tiny precious girl. The left one stays out more than in. Going by appointment next week to get her fixed and legs examined.

Thank you so much for making this video! I have a beagle with luxating patella, it doesn't bug her too severely but I just want to do any prevention I can so the floor exercises look like a great idea! Your pups are so cute! :)
My dog had luxating patella due to a accident we got surgery on his worse one and treatment for the other physical therapy vitamins etc for the other but it got to last stage and was scheduled for surgery a month out i just happened to buy some cheap ole roy puppy food as i was out and thats all the store had.... i fed it to him and three weeks later he is back to stage one and doesnt need the surgery.... he went from not being able to walk on it at all to running and playing with only a slight limp.... surgeon was shocked at his improvement and we have put off surgery to see if he continues to improve. Dont know what was in dog food that helped but will continue using it mixed with his normal dog food
My dog won't let me stretch his hind leg a few days ago he jumped onto the couch and squealed and lifted his hind leg and held it in place for a few min then went back to normal since then it's happened a few more times and I researched and figured out my chihuahua is prone to this knee cap problem so I don't know if it's because he recently did it that it's causing pain when I try to extend it he walks just fine in between it happening but his muscles have been tense do you think it is this knee cap issue or should I take him to get checked for something else that it could be?
Stephanie Hamilton definitely take him to the vet, they can make a diagnosis and recommend therapies, meds etc. my papillon was diagnosed with luxating patellas 2 years ago and hes doing fine lots of exercise, good nutrition, maybe some supplements really go a long way.
We just discovered that our 5 month old teacup poodle has luxating patella on her right hind leg and it pops out of position when she plays aggressively. Are you suggesting that one can avoid surgery if these exercises are done daily? I don't see how it can correct it enough where the patella will not slip out of place and I worry about degenerative effects of this happening over and over again and eventually arthritis. She is not in pain now but down the line it could be a more serious prob. I know that surgery can correct this however. Are you against surgery?
+Deni Silbert I just discovered my new pup (yorkie-poodle) may have the same issue. I would also like to avoid surgery.. any suggestions for alternative treatment?
+explodingsloths well I brought her in for examination more than once and she definitely has luxating patella but we are going to wait and see how she's doing when it comes time for her to be fixed because they would like to do the surgery at the same time. If by some miracle she gets better on her own then we won't do the surgery but it does pop out a lot when she's playing or even just walking so she probably will need the surgery on at least one of her legs but we do,do exercises to keep her strong.

Lice Lady, I cannot say for sure but 1 suspect your dog was too active after surgery. He has to be quiet for 6 weeks other than going out to potty. Then you start PT.
Nicely done! We had a shih tzu pomeranian cross female we just loved who passed 18 months ago at 13 years. She had this condition for at least 6 years and we found no need for surgery, but the massage and rear leg straightening gave much relief over those years. Thank you. Our new male dog Benji (at 16 months) is an adorable papillon/maltese/pug mix and seems to be getting a few of the same 'skipping' symptoms. We'll try the rest of your suggestions with him.
Did you do anything to prevent further damage like supplement or anything? My puppy may have this the vet said but he’s still growing, or could be a sprain.
