By far the best Bilaskhani ever, and yes, I have heard Ravi Shankar, Vilayat and Ali Akbar and many others playing this raag. Such deep, spiritual and ethereal exploration is only possible when you transcend your human self to elevate yourself into something else. It is not a human playing. It is some divine force, a force that heals, alleviates the soul and takes you to a cosmic level of being.
I am very very much indebted to Sri Nikhil Banerjee . Almost every day i listen this masterpiece and it gives me peace and make me to contemplate whole day
NB has no match. The peerless musical imagination on display here and other recordings of his I have heard IMHO plumbs the same kind of spiritual depth as the late string quartets of Beethoven in its transcendence and sublimity.
You have an interesting name and taste: Nikhil Banerjee and Mahler. I have tried three times so far. I still need to mature to be able to understand Mahler. Fortunately, I do understand NB!
This is indeed the Baroda Durbar Hall concert of Pt Nikhil Banerjee accomp by Anindya Chatterjee. In my humble opinion , this is the ultimate Bilaskhani Todi of NB. The artiste simply exceeded himself taking himself and the listeners to a different dimension. This concert should rank as one of the lifetime achievements of (arguably) the greatest sitarist ever .
This an ethereal and sublime experience, even with this quality of recording! Throughout the alap, NB weaves an intricate and delicate gossamer-like framework, which leaves you quivering in anticipation as to what phrase NB is going to surprise and delight you with next. As the gat begins, Pt. Anindo Ji does a masterful job of launching with an intricate Uthan and then they battle it out to keep the listener waiting for this miracle to unfold! Love to hear the better audio of this masterpiece! Thanks for positing this!!
This is a Baroda Palace performance, one of the most memorable ones by Nikhil Banerjee. The tabla accompaniment is provided by Anindo Chatterjee, not Zakir Hussain.
