Creepiest part of this thing came after a couple of days. A hacker managed to separate the camera from your character model and found out that the creepy shivering ghost lady is actually right behind you the entire time.
It reminded me a 2000 Thai horror movie called "shutter" way before silent hill p.t because in that movie the protagonist ex girlfriend ghost it was been the entire time behind him up over his back actually and I wonder if this is some sort of coincidence? I don't think so.
The genius of this was that this was an untitled playable teaser, and only when someone managed to figure out the subtle clues to progress did you get the name Hideo Kojima, arguably one of the best storytellers in gaming, Guillermo Del Toro, known for his genius in horror and Norman Reedus as the protagonist. And finally, the big reveal of a new Silent Hill game. As a horror fan this was a huge deal and to see it slip away was so heartbreaking.
@@Thorax2552 Famed horror manga artist Junji Ito was also planned to work with them as well. And probably even some of the original members of Team Silent (of the original SH games) like Masahiro Ito.
It wasn't just "someone" who managed to figure it out. If I remember right, it was THOUSANDS of people collaborating on Reddit/other message boards trying to figure this out. And it still took a couple weeks.
It was recently discovered that Lisa, the ghastly figure that haunts the player throughout the game is actually BEHIND THE PLAYER THE ENTIRE TIME. A modder discovered the Lisa model while manipulating the camera. The player character is not visible, but by locking the camera in place, it turns out that Lisa is behind you the entire game.
The big Guillermo del Toro (mexican proud), Norman Reedus (awesome actor), and three japanese colossus, the mastermind Hideo Kojima, master of horror Junji Ito and the return of Akira Yamaoka, in this saddly failed project, makes always a heartbroke.
My favorite type of horror, movie or game, is when you just feel tension and discomfort. Not jump scares, not shock value, just a constant feeling of unease as if something can happen at any moment. This demo did it very well.
I mean to be fair PT does have jump scares and lots of shock value, the guy doing the walkthrough is just avoiding the scares by doing every step of the puzzle perfectly.
@@thepooper5544 Yes, but the jumpscare isn’t a crutch the demo leans on. It functions purely as a means to punish the player and offer some kind of threat since there are no enemies and you can’t really die in the game. It’s actually a really clever use of jumpscares since it offers some kind of necessary stakes.
I was almost dying scared shitless when the radio unexpectedly started speaking my native language Swedish. 17:05 It said " Can you hear your own soul scream? don't trust anyone, they are all being controlled by Them, this has been the case for 75 years now. You can be one of us, soon a gate to a new dimension will be opened".
Yeah pretty incredible that is only a demo but what an impression it made I would say possibly the greatest playable teaser EVER just makes you feel so uneasy
Something I just realized the designers did is that they made each loop descending. You have to go down a flight of stairs each time and it steadily gets worse each time and you cannot back track or go up again. All the small details that went into this!
That's classic Silent Hill design, I heard That's all their games. Because the story of each character is like they are living their personal hell as they continously descend.
@@Mecanotech True. Like in Silent Hill 2 where James Sunderland walked down like a mile long ramp into the underground prison, and then continuously jumped down those creepy holes that lead deeper and deeper towards Pyramid Head's lair. Shit freaked me out so much as a kid!
Aw yeah! Silent Hill is an amazing psychological horror franchise! Some games better than others. It was a shame that this one was never completed. It looked like it was going to be amazing!
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames there are some deep dive lore videos of the games and there was even a Silent Hill movie made (it's ok. Kinda deviates from the theme of the games)
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Please react to this video, this is a possible meaning behind the P.T. , it's mind boggling. I know it's a little bit long (31 minutes ot be exact) but I think it explains everything. It could be more than just a game. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yr4RvdREwl8.html
I just can imagine if this game came out it will to advance to its time and that would be good even the graphics looks like the one from RE VII and this was only a demo that came out before RE
Just to rumor mill a little bit, there’s a rumor going around that Sony approached Konami to 100% fund this game to be made by Kojima, Del Torro, and Junji Ito as it was originally meant to be made, it would just be a PS5 exclusive. I really hope this is true, but we all know Konam is ran by old school men that care more about honor and respect than making a killer profit.
You got to admire the person playing this game. They must have played this game so many times to figure out how to keep going without getting killed. So congratulations to the player who suffered this scare for all of us.
It's a shame this recording gave literally everything away right at the start like that (I guess everyone knows it by now anyhow). P.T. was an insane event and piece of marketing as it just showed up as a free demo on the store. No information provided as to the developer or what it was, it was just there and it spread like wildfire word of mouth until someone finally beat it. Only upon it finally getting beaten was it revealed to be a teaser for Silent Hills made by Kojima and del Toro with Norman Reedus. Think I should also mention the playthrough you're watching her is someone going through after everything was already figured out. People played this endlessly for quite a while trying to figure out all the key tricks and timings in order to solve it; a fresh play through when this was new didn't look anything this smooth as it was incredibly confusing and frightening.
It's a shame we will never get the full game to just this reveal trailer demo. Imagine what the full game was going to be like if this was just a tutorial. The game if you played as is would end with one of several random crash screen at the end. The puzzle itself was super cryptic and it was amazing to see people solve it like one of those old adventure games back in the day to find the specifics tasks needed to earn the reveal trailer and see that this was all a setup for a new Silent Hill game. Damn you Konami for canceling this and milking your franchises with Pachinko machines.
There was a report that Konami and Sony are potentially working on reviving the project. I don't want to be given false hope...buy my god do I want this full game badly, haha.
@@The_Skrub well all the main people that were involved are already off, so we will never receive the original concept. Just a copy of the teaser most likely. I don't have an attachment for Kojima, but he is definitely a director that would have created a unique experience.
Not that I expect anyone to comment on this particular comment as it's a few months old, but those long pauses before the baby giggles are actually because PT had microphone capability- one of those many 'new toys' mentioned at the end. Kojima has always prided himself on trying to innovate and improve on storytelling and puzzle-solving through use of new technology, and he wanted to use the PS4 controller's built-in microphone as a puzzle step. In order to trigger the giggles, you have to repeat a name while near the telephone after the stroke of midnight. When the woman starts moaning, you have a timer to get the third giggle (dictated by RNG), or she kills you and you have to start the loop over. The giggles can only be triggered once you gather ALL of the picture pieces, and many believe you have to get the 'fatal error' screen (which is either a red screen or blue screen) in order to progress enough to complete the puzzle, hence why he waited for it. Those long pauses are the player repeating the name into the controller's microphone to trigger the giggles. Also! Bonus round! Some hackers have gained access to PT and found out the 'Look behind you' quote is meant to make the player ACTUALLY look behind them, both IRL and in-game, because the ghost is actually ALWAYS behind you, until she manifests elsewhere. You cannot turn and see her, however, because she is programmed to ALWAYS be behind you. People were only able to learn this fact by tearing the code apart (and also forcing third-person to confirm). Kojima goes the extra mile to make sure his games are effective at what they do. He said when interviewed about his intentions for Silent Hills (Silent Hill 5, as it would be the fifth JP-produced SH game, btw), that he wanted 'To make a game that will make you shit your pants'. And the crazy lad said it with a smile!
Hideo Kojima was the perfect game director for this one, he hides some of the sneakiest easter eggs you could imagine. The way he is able to establish villains and writes stories is just top tier, Sony invested a lot of money into him and his entire team because of things like these. This was only a teaser, who knows what the final product would have been like under his full creative control.
Controversial opinion… this demo is quintessentially the best gaming horror experience. Objectively unsettling, mysterious and effective despite it being very simple. Even though we got no Silent Hills, P.T. remains a true masterpiece.
This opinion is hard for me, its definitely unsettling, mysterious, and effective. Also gorgeous, simple, and very complicated. Easily among the greatest short horror experiences in the world. But best gaming horror experience? That I cant agree with. Its certainly high on the list though.
The demo is very cryptic in itself and many gamers got stuck because they couldn't figure out how to move onto the next step (because sometimes you have to do something and sometimes you have to wait for something to happen or move a certain amount of steps to trigger the next part). The playthrough was alright , they went through 2 more doors than necessary : When it said "gauge it out" on the picture (probably trying to get the jumpscare cutscene but missing it ultimately) and at the end (leading to the green corridor, which wasn't necessary). They barely showed Lisa, the ghost lady : Many things are randomized like WHEN the ghost jumpscares you in the early levels and WHERE she appears in the last level, which they never showed. In the initial room, you can also talk with the bloody bag on the table (when you get there the second time, after you get that randomized message screen), which they didn't show. My point is, it is way creepier than what you've seen of it.
omg I remember playing this in a dark room with my friend....the best horror game experience ever, I will never forgive gaming industry for cancelling this project, I can only dream that Kojima will finish Silent Hills and give us the best horror game ever made, PT was only a teaser to a whole game! Also this MUST be experienced in headphones) well as any good horror game
This is honestly the most impactful horror game I've ever had the privilege of playing. This walkthrough video is fantastic, practically every bit of movement the player did, was intentional. At times if you were to move the wrong way, or move too fast, turn around too fast, etc... it would be game-over. The scary lady would get you. There is a very specific order of tasks you have to do to solve the 'riddle' to reach the end scene as well. Probably the most amazing game demo / advert I've ever seen in my life. It's mind numbing that it was cancelled.
Fun fact Lisa (the ghost) is always behind you Also sad that they didn't show it but the bag outside on the table can talk The bag says something like I walked, i could only walk. And then i saw myself But that wasn't me The only me is me ¿Are you sure the only you is you?
Easily my favourite horror game of all time, still unnerves me to this day. Can't even imagine what the full game would've been! The scariest part is that Lisa follows you the entire game, she's almost always just one step behind you. The guy playing actually missed a few of the ghost sightings although he tried to get them to appear.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I don’t think there has ever been a universally agreed upon way to complete this demo, and with good reason. There are a few events you need to trigger with particular actions, but otherwise, depending on how you go through the hallways, there are different scares and events that can occur. Almost all of my favorite moments weren’t even in this walkthrough. Trust me when I say there is a reason this demo is held in high regard.
Silent hill was a great horror game in the beginning of the 2000's, and was really looking forward to it to this different approach, yet close to the... Disturbing ambiance of the original. However, if you want to see the silent hill of the DbD DLC, you should look for SH 2, and maybe SH1 and 3 too!
in this game every "loop" has a puzzle you need to solve in order to progress. at first stages they are relatively easy but as you progress they become ridicilously hard. you dont notice but the guy playing this is doing all these secret puzzles that are really, and i mean really hard to solve (for example the child laughing, or the bell toll and some other things that u hear in this video is all plays when u solve a puzzle in later loops) because obviously he played it before or looked it up on the internet but i guarantee you almost everyone who played it couldnt solve the puzzles on their first time playing. not only that, when you are hearing those breathing voices if u do spesific things like if u move the camera too fast or take too long on completing a "loop" results in that creepy lady jumpscaring you etc. in fact i remember that a lot of streamers and youtubers had to look it up on the internet to actually finish the game, it was really popular when it first came out. all in all there's a lot of things they didnt show in this video but it was an amazing game. its actually a lot more scary than it is shown in this video and like i said more cool things you didnt get to see in this video, but it was still good.😄
I don't know if this was mentioned but one of the theories was that the character that Norman Reedus was to play was somehow connected to the ghost woman named Lisa, when she was alive she got pregnant and if I remember correctly her husband or boyfriend found out, killed her, then cut out the fetus, that was when he was looking through the hole in the wall, someone correct me if I'm wrong though, the Silent Hill games all have this dark hellish world that the main character gets dragged into.
It's incredible how i know what is going to happen and still feel scared XD this was set to be one of the greatest games of all time! Such a shame that didn't see it out u.u
Wow! Uploaded two weeks ago! What a coincidence as I'm looking back at old reactions to the game but now this! Thanks for uploading~ that's very refreshing to see. You two are adorable and it's very heart warming to sit with you. Also lol your reaction to baby fetus alien
Honestly, whilst aged now the original silent hill games are awesome, not only cool horror games but also the back stories and thing in the games aren't simple monsters ect they have meanings and represent things, just awesome, I enjoy the movies too
Ah yes, Silent Hill, my favorite survival horror type franchise, yes, even more so than Resident Evil, much more psychological and WTF. Right on, you spooky, kooky kids!😁 There were two movies based on this franchise. I myself have never seen the second movie, but I thought the first one was actually quite good on its own merits as a horror film.
It's almost a sin that this game hasn't been finished and released, it should probably be something that would revolutionize the gaming industry, something I'm sure would influence and inspire more games in the same style. For fans of the Silent Hill franchise was and still it's very sad not to have more games.
@@therunawaykid6523 I'm not so sure, after all we'll never know if the P.T. would be even in the first person definitively or would have a change of camera...
It's terribly unfortunate that you can't experience the game first hand, even in the "normal" moments in the game, there's this extreme sense of unease which is exacerbated when you have the controller in your hands. I played this demo with my mates and it fucked me up for a few days after.
I’ve thought about this game a lot recently I miss this game so much I honestly wish it would’ve been fully released I remember watching people just play it out of nowhere and how scary the shit was at the time lol if only if only
Hideo Kijima obviously likes Norman Reedus. He was also the protagonist in "Death Stranding" by Hideo Kojima. Also a Guilermo del Toro colaberation that features Guilermo himself as a character in the game.
It's a shame they didn't let Lisa kill them at least once, or show her shadow following you or had subs on so you could hear/understand dialogue a bit better.
I do love the little touch of that radio line "he lured her out by telling her it was just a game". Just a game, the thing people will be telling themselves to keep calm...
I just now noticed that he was an alcoholic(knew that part already) and the wife wasn't happy anymore slept with the manager and that fetus isn't his child and so he killed everyone. idk, when the fetus said "you remember right? exactly 10 months back." maybe she worked there 10months prior and has been sleeping with the manager and she got pregnant months back considering the stage of the fetus.
ahh to experience this again for the first time. what a game changer this was. the actual game would have broken game selling records, i'm certain of that
Crazy how a short teaser had such a large impact on not only people, but the entire genre. I dont think Resident Evil 7 and 8 would be anything like they are if it werent for PT
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but there's a really interesting subtext to PT, which some people believe was the reason PT was pulled from PSN: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yr4RvdREwl8.html
Someone found out that the ghost lady was actually following your character the entire time right behind his back and of course, we never knew that because we can never see what's behind us since it's in first-person. These guys really did not need to do that because it seems unnecessary, right? Because we can never see behind the character's field of vision. But they did it anyway. So good.
It’s also nice that because they had her following you the whole time, they did try to allude to it while you played. Everything from the breathing right in your ear, the sound of her walking behind you with just her one heel on, and sometimes, you could even see her twitching shadow cast on a wall in front of you. Nothing quite compares to the tension and detail this demo had and no matter how many people try to recapture it, they never will come close. P.T. was lightning in a bottle.
Ahh silent hill my favorite horror franchise you two should look up the older silent hill games like those videos that explain the game and the depth of the story and meanings of everything like the puzzles, the monsters, etc. Everything in this games have a meaning even the songs
Scariest game I've ever played, shame it wasn't released. Kinda gives it a cult following though few have played it ,those that have experienced true horror.
It’s a shame Silent Hills was lost because of Konami parting ways with Hideo Kojima. Hideo Kojima is a well known game director known for the Metal Gear Solid series and Silent Hill. He can no longer work on either franchise due to Konami firing him. He’s bouncing back though with his own original studio and has already released a game called Death Stranding starring Norman Reedus since this game was canceled. Death Stranding got mixed reviews but was overall seen as a success I myself loved the game. Right now Kojima has teased to be working on a brand new horror game and is getting help from Junji Ito an extremely well known horror manga author famous for some extreme body horror and gore. Can’t wait for Kojima to show us more since Death Stranding was more of an action thriller game than it was horror like this silent hill was going to be.
Not sure if someone has said it already but a fun fact: if you mod the game and go free camera mode you will see her/it literally behind you the entire time during the game you’ll never see it cause it’s attached to the back of the viewing angel. A little nod to when the radio was saying look behind you I said look behind you.
This was amazing reaction and all the suspense were building up lol. Also if you watch the death jumpscare of the silent hill game it’s something lol. Love you guys xoxo
One thing you need to understand, is that when this came out, it was just named PT and was a free demo in the PS store. Nobody knew what it was, so that ending, where you get Hideo Kojima, then that Silent Hills title card? That was an incredibly powerful moment. It had been two years since the last SH game, and Kojima had been talking about wanting to do a SH since about the time that game had come out, so this was an incredible teaser. Of course, one year later Kojima's relationship with Konami exploded in a nuclear fashion, he left the company, a lot of drama happened, and Konami had this game not only removed from the PS store, they actually went as far as to deleting the installed copies from all PSs (only units unplugged of the internet were spared, up to a couple years ago you could find some of those being sold on the internet for around USD500)
Great to see P.T. still scaring people. The Silent Hill series have some of the best stories and scares in the medium, you should definitely give the trailers a shot. Since they're old games it's hard to find high quality versions of the trailers, but if you're interested, I've got a playlist with the best ones I could find: ru-vid.com/group/PLNZ_ZIq19xhj1RGc_lFBVw7zBFMI6VVLh
You’re right man idk how people figure out how to finish this playable teaser to see the actual trailer but when the internet sets their mind to something anything is possible lol
fun fact, there's a guy named Lance McDonald that has slowly been taking this game apart to show all the small details that largely went unnoticed because originally this was supposed to be a tutorial for Silent Hills. another fun fact, at one point Lisa sounds like she's following the character but when you turn around, she isn't there.....when in fact, she IS there, locked behind the camera so you never see her. I recommend looking him up if you want more PT content.
Thanks for the rec! We heard that someone found out that you are being followed the entire time and we wish that would’ve been revealed somehow in game 😱😃
I know right that's the freaky part as soon as you complete the first loop she is with you the ENTIRE time that's just really cool man it's such a shame that we'll never play it man
Apparently the reason why it was so hard to find the trailer to show that it’s a silent hill game is because Sony didn’t want to make it. It was actually the developer being like “screw the higher ups I’m going to reveal it in a demo behind a bunch of walls” and once the higher ups at Sony found out they removed it from the store and later on Hideo Kojima left the company to make another game with Guillermo Deltoro and Norman Reedus which became Death Stranding. It’s a shame because people love the Silent Hill franchise but Sony didn’t want to do anything with it against the wishes of Hideo Kojima which people would have loved
So sad that this game was never going to be made, it looks like it was going to be amazing. If you haven't yet, I would very much recommend watching the original silent hill games, they are truly incredible. True psychological horrors. Fantastic video again and as always keep being awesome
I wish this game existed this was going to be the game brought back to the originals I grow up playing with atmosphere and what made it worth playing, however after the death of team silent silent Hill died too in 2003
The fetus' bark is worse than it's cry. The whole trailer is a quite literal descent into Hell as it gets progressively worst the further down you go. That part where he stood still for like 20 seconds, he was staring of what looked like a face inside the wall, the fetus' face.
I really liked it and my expectations were super low... Jumpscares don't usually work with me, i hate when it ends with some 1s dumb monster showing up. The constant feeling of discomfort and that something might happen is the true terror, from start to end.
The jumpscares actually serve a design purpose in this game. They’re the only punishment or “release” from the tension in the game, since there are no enemies. Without them, there is so threat, which means the player is in no real danger. Once the player figures that out, the tension is lost altogether. It’s very musical, in a way.
A masterpiece, a master class of story and horror experience. The story behind PT's release and the associated studio is likewise fascinating on multiple levels.
funny fact: in order to be abe to program the aparitions, the movements and the sounds, the ghost of the girl is actually behind us al the time, that's why you hear her in your ears. If you want to see her, just stop the game and go over the boundaries with the camera
If I remember it correctly you could hear some breathing or some sounds behind you but when you turned around there was nothing. A RU-vidr debugged the camera to see what's behind him and there was actually a creepy woman following you the whole time 😨
This was and still is the scariest game I ever played, and it's not even a full game! The feeling of dread while playing this was like nothing I've experienced before or at least since the original Silent Hill games. Imagine what could of been with a full release.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames yeah and couple that with the fact that I had a ouija board in the barracks room as well lol. When I left I had to leave it behind since I didn't have space to take it with me. I left it under the bed in a drawer with a rosary on top of it. I wonder what went through the minds of the next soldiers that used that room xD
It's 2023, and I still can't believe this game was canceled. This game is, by far, the scariest and most terrifying experience a human being could ever have.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I'm of the same opinion, but then it started to decline. However, he noticed Bethany's restless reaction as you watched Silent Hill.
I kind of believe that part of the map (decoration) has been re-used in Visage because the first time I saw PT Silent hill I thought it was the beginning of the project of Visage (which I watched before it).
If you look behind yourself when i clock goes off you get the most terrifying jumpscare. also lisa will run thru you if you get to close and that means you "die" so you have to go back thru the loop and try again
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I went through the "death" loops for 3 hours before I figured out the ending. It's this crazy step by step where you have to have all the picture pieces, then when the clocl strikes you take exactly 12 steps and then wait for the haunting noises to go away, say a name into the mic and then each correct step is confirmed with the baby laugh. If lisa touches you thru any of that go back thru the loop. But its a great showing of a decent into maddness because your the father that murdered them so it's like a private nightmare. Theres also another trailer for silent hills pt around that is super creepy. It shows the "new" toys the antagonist would be bringing.
I watched all Resident Evil and Silent Hill walkthroughs without batting an eye but this was the only game I could not finish watching in one sitting; the feeling of something bad about to happen was just too strong so I had to stop. Ended up being not too bad when I finally finished watching, because SHN played the game too well the player was never attacked by Lisa LOL
The numbers you hear several times on the radio is actually Hideo Kojima's birthday. This game goes over a horror that is not super natural really. The horror of abuse, mental illness and coming home to that every single day and the results. A once normal looking home becomes a nightmare. Note at the same time Kojima himself was going through work place abuse at Konami. Him and his team being separated. Coworkers and himself being put under restrictions and spyed on. The game this was to become was cancelled because Konami eventually fired their once vice president out of nowhere and their break up was not clean. Kojima and his crew released all the dirty laundry about Konami and Konami shut down next to all gaming operations shortly after for quite a long period of time. Kojima went on to join Sony studios and make Death Stranding. He is now working on a horror game.
