Mate, what a find. I'd be restoring that back to factory specs for that car. It's value would go through the roof if the chassis and engine numbers matched.
What a gem! I've been restoring one of those for years and I intend to finish it soon. The 302 is a great engine too, I'm currently doing a cheap rebuild on one too. Cheers and have a great Christmas!
That’s mint !! The find of the century. I remember back in my early teens the old man had a gold XC Fairmont with the 4.9 V8 T bar auto. It was his company car and forever kicked himself for not buying it when the company he worked for back traded it. Bloody idiot. 😁🍺
Excellent, funny I bought a family VB, never unregistered etc...but yes some home remedies to protect it from rust and repair! Some I will leave as part of its history.
Beautiful car! So keen to see what you do with this xc will be good to hear the 302 in it will be a nice cruiser, will you be putting a standard cam in it? And will you have to change the diff to suit the v8?
WOW thats bananas how good that is , a bit of a wet n dry and polish the paint for now and it will look like a real gem , that is crazy how good that is , few hundred hours of bodywork saved there
Execalent car Graham, I hade the 78 1/2 update with the square headlights! When you have cleaned all the silicone sealer of it go over it all with a scotch pad and kero to bring back the original sunburnt patina, it might look so good you decide to clear coat it and keep it that way! Not happy with the V8 mod, that car is a survivor and can only be a survivor once!
I think you may find open chamber heads in your Cleveland if she is an XC onwards motor. I could be wrong but being a blue block (if original colour) I think our Clevelands all got the same heads once compression dropped with emission controls, plus retarded timing etc. Great car though.
My mate had an XC Fairmont. White in colour with a very hot 351 Cleveland. Quad 2-barrel Webers, a 5 speed Tremec box and I think a 2.75 ratio 9 inch diff. It went like a NASCAR at Daytona
These are great old girls… I had one of these as my first real car… Exactly the same as this Mine was a white 78 falcon 500 with caramel buckets and a 4.1 column auto… Great memories I drove the old girl hard and she was a trouper ! I bought mine 2 years old ex nuns car from the local convent… Blessed by the pope !!! Looking forward to seeing her done up
In 1987 I bought one the same colour and was a 1977 model. It was a three speed manual and had 200 motor in it. It had dark brown interior. We paid $3000 dollars for it. We brought the kids up in that car and had it for 10 years until the rust appeared in the sills. I bought another wreck and changed the motor to 4.1 and put a auto in it with auto diff. Put integrated air conditioning in it. Very comfortable car to drive. I called it the flying shammie because of the colour. I liked the xb better. Nice dash and grill. Cheers happen resto.
I've got a real soft spot for the little 289 Windsor Graham, thanks for the vid mate. I'm glad you and your family are back where you're all happiest mate. Seeya Rob
As I said in the last vid, I think 302 Clevo's are boat anchors, but each to his own, I have a 289 in my 1980 XD and it's a dream, wish I could put a pic of my XD on here, Felicity Falcon is her name 😁 .. am looking forward to this build
An old mate was in Australia visiting his old mate in the 80's they were out in his car , he needed petrol , in the petrol station the guy was filling up my mate see's a Ford Cortina , when his old mate he says look at that pillock with 4.1 badgers on his car , his says it is a 4.1 six pot . I was in the motor trade for over 35 years started at a Vauxhall dealers so they have a bit of a soft spot for GM products but drove Fords for a long time , my last Ford was a South African 1983 Ford Bantam bakkie half ton pickup a mk3 Escort base cab I restored a few early Escorts . Nice old car BTW .
bloody good XC mate , I just picked up a 92 F150 that the man owned for 30+ years very little rust and its a factory 302 , You are a lucky man , Rob Nowra NSW
Yeah I have a 76 TD cortina with a similar story, 1 owner, was a daily driver from 1976 to 2018 and to this day has never been unregistered. Only has one bit of rust in the bottom of the passenger guard. They’re still around!
Fantastic car to start with would look nice with the twin headlight grille you can buy the round inserts and change the std looking grille looking forward to your videos when you start the strip down cheers.
Don't care much abot the cars, but found you here while checking around if you're still kicking. Glad tou see you ok and wish you well with any project you do. Greetings from old nasty Europe, cheers!
