Pt2: How to airbrush true fire with water based paints

Part 2 of 2 on how to airbrush true fire using water based paints. All the true fire tutorial videos ive seen have used solvent candies so i thought i would tackle it from the water-based perspective.
Im no true fire expert but these two videos will teach you one method for airbrushed fire which you can then go and create your own flames using your artistic ability.

Well done!!!! You were absolutely right when you said that people tend to over use stencils. Yours has a more natural flow and looks great!!!

Thanks for taking the time to actually explain what you are doing. As you said, there are plenty of true fire videos out there, but yours is the first one I found with clear steps/explanations in between the time lapse bits. So thanks again! I am subscribing now!

What a lovely guy Svee seems. Not afraid to share his knowledge with us. Even though w all know tht Sve has a special Git that makes it look easier than it is. but I respect that a lot. The Bubbles effect video had me mouth a gape for a while day. Truly an awesome guy. Hopefully one day I can Commission Svee to do something for me. If he doesn''t have a 25 year waiting list ? Best wishes Svee

This is my first successful attempt at true fire. I love how you do your best to give detail into what you are doing so the rest of us can follow along. For that I thank you. I don't think mine turned out too bad. My kids think it looks way better than my previous seaweed attempts. It would not let me load a picture in this message or I would be glad to share.

@hockeyfreak043 Water-based is a good place to start mate yes. You can blow yourself up with solvent paints lol and you have to have air extraction and all sorts because of the fumes. Water-based can be sprayed anywhere pretty much. The paints i use are "Auto Air" and "Wicked" by Createx. I also use E'Tac, Com-Art, Trident, the list goes on. In a nut shell though just any water-based airbrush paint will do ;)

hey mate love your work.been frusterating myself about 2 months now. was almost ready to throw in the towel. only having a hp revalution .5mm makes it hard to do detail. anyway, today i finally managed a layer that i think i can work with. that said, providing all goes well and i dont end up starting over again i will be happy to send you a pic of the finished product. wish me luck and lots of patience. im straying away from stencil use altogether. just looks better in my humble opinion. in any event, thanks for the tut, it is greatly apreciated

Like the vid but you keep commenting on the waterbase as though its impossible to get the look of solvents. You can add gloss top coat to your colors to get the look of solvents putting the gloss in. It will add dimension to your colors but muck around a bit before committing to any mixture.

Just a thought: if you spray black (same type of paint used for the background) when done with spraying the colors, around the edges - applied both freehand and using stencils - would that perhaps make the flames more realistic? Cheers mate, great vid.

@trooper6967 lol my family think im a nutter too mate, you are not alone there ;) I sometimes use a cleaning fluid if ive got a bit of a blockage in the airbrush but 90% of the time i use just water. It does the job most of the time :)

hi svee you have probably been asked this but when using the wicked colours do you use an airbrush cleaning fluid or just water? great vidz by the way you have inspired me to get on ebay and spend some money on a few bits and bobs and see where i go with it. and can i say your easy to watch and make me laugh out loud making the mrs and kids think im a loon sat in the corner earphones on laughing to myself anyway well done and keep up the ace vids take it easy Buck
@sveeart
@sveeart 13 лет назад
@iscareuiknowit blimey, there are loads of differences between 1k and 2k but in a nut shell... 1K is pre-mixed, isnt as shiny and softer. 2K in in 2 parts that you have to mix (lacquer and hardener), is much harder (they use it on cars) and its nasty stuff to use. Just google "isocyanates" to see what i mean. You can get 2K clear without the isocyanates though (non-iso clear). You can get nitro in a rattle can but you have to be careful with it. Its harmful to you/others and the enviroment.

nice video. I started doing my flames using water based transparents, good when you get to grips with layering and bleeding. i moved to specialist paints Inspire range and Wow, what a differance!! so deep and captivating..One question you might be able to answer, data sheet says use "D-thinner", what is "D-thinner"?? I use a normal 2K thinner and it works for me but if "D-thinner" is special or better i will change, or is this just a cunning marketing ploy so you buy from them?? thanks for vid.
